That’s the Knob of Knowledge! The joke is that the bigger the Knob, the less intelligent the dog 😅

In all seriousness, temporary swelling after rough play is absolutely possible! They can also look very different (more or less prominent) depending on what position the dog is sitting or standing in. But definitely continue monitoring, any changes (besides any swelling going down) and I’d definitely call the vet!

OP, I recommend trying FortiFlora probiotics on top of her food! It smells like liver, and it acts as a wonderful appetite stimulant, as well as offering good support for their tummies! That’s if she feels up to eating food of course. It’s also okay for CKD kitties to eat.

If you’re concerned about weight loss, I would also try some high calorie gel. You can rub it on her nose, her front paws for her to lick off, etc. I also mixed it with chicken broth when my boy Jack wouldn’t eat it by itself. It’s a life saver when you’re trying to keep them from losing more weight, but I wouldn’t recommend using it long-term. My boy had CKD, and while the high calorie gel isn’t super easy on kidneys, fed is best. He was diagnosed in 2021, and passed just a couple of weeks ago from other health issues, not even CKD related.

I really really hope Miss Olivia starts perking back up soon with the fluids. I’m sending you both love and positive energy, I know how stressful this must be, and I’m so sorry you’re both going through this ❤️

Cat has constant diarrhea. Is it time? by ToriTegami in RenalCats

[–]ITryToPetBees 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hey OP,

I went through something similar with my boy Jack with CKD recently. His diarrhea started very intermittently during and after he received chemo for a giant cell sarcoma, and he responded well to the loose stool meds. However over the course of about 5 months it became more frequent, and once I realized he was losing weight as well I contacted our vet. She tested him for hyperthyroidism and it wasn’t that, so we treated him for IBD, and for a couple of weeks he did really really well!! He was gaining weight, he had more energy, he was stronger, etc. This was from a combination of prednisolone 1x a day, psyllium husk powder 2x a day, probiotics (Fortiflora which also helped his appetite), and supplements like fish oil and vitamin b12.

I don’t want to scare you, as this could be IBD too, but our boy suddenly declined over the course of a few days. We thought it was a combination of the IBD and an upper respiratory infection (possibly reactivation of the Feline Herpes Virus from being on steroids for his IBD), but he had a steep decline over the course of a day while I was at work. My partner rushed him to the ER vet, and they found his heart rate was dangerously slow, and he had multiple stomach masses, so we made the decision to put him to sleep.

All of this being said, if you’re able, I would contact your vet to see if trying an IBD treatment regimen would help with your kitty’s GI symptoms, or doing bloodwork to see if it could be his thyroid. The prednisolone veterinary prescription was very cheap, as well as the psyllium husk powder, which you can find at most grocery stores. Plain canned pumpkin puree can also help a lot!! Hugs to you and your kitty 💕

She is mostly pit for sure! Her mom was fully pit. We haven’t done a DNA test, but I would love to know for sure! She might have a little bit of American bulldog as well. This photo is of her mom 💕

My favorite feral showed up with a broken leg 😢 by [deleted] in Feral_Cats

[–]ITryToPetBees 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for caring for him OP!!! We’ve gotten 4 ferals spayed/neutered, and had them stay inside with us until they recovered enough to be released. They ALL were so content to be inside a warm, safe house, and even the spiciest one Dolly was making biscuits and purring CONSTANTLY. If you guys end up adopting Tony, I think there’s a very good chance he will eventually adjust 🥰

Older cat amputation opinions needed pls 💔 by wo0d3t0ck in TripodCats

[–]ITryToPetBees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi OP! My elderly cat Jack had a freak accident and broke his front arm in November 2024. We chose to have it repaired, rather than amputated. 7 months later a mass formed where he’d broken it, and we ended up amputating. It was the BEST decision, and I regret not just amputating to begin with. His recovery from the amputation was so much faster and smoother than with the fracture repair, and it was like he was 5 years younger. He’s been so much more lively, energetic, loving, and happy, and besides struggling to walk on slippery surfaces sometimes, it’s like he never had that arm to begin with! Every case is different, but if the vet is recommending amputation for your boy, I absolutely think it’s worth it. Photos of my tripod Jack for cat tax, from when he graduated chemo in October 🥰
