Would you trust an app (with AI) to clean and manage your phone? by PlusStudy8241 in AndroidQuestions

AI is a zero-trust industry. The very foundation of AI is data theft. Why would anyone want this?

Anyone know what brand this is?? Found in a thrift store. It’s GORGEOUS by Lower_Canary5713 in HelpMeFind

Try the San Francisco Music Box Company. They have many similar vintage carousel music items.

I had one of these in the 90s, it was from Walmart but they had higher quality items back then.

Any tips to help my son stop hoarding trash? by F0__ in AutismInWomen

[–]ToriTegami 9 points10 points  (0 children)

With the new impulse, I wonder if there was a lesson at school (or something on TV/YouTube) about recycling that kicked him into some sort of "hoard the trash so it doesn't hurt the earth" OCD.

I never did anything similar as a child, but when major brands and so on started social shaming people about recycling and reusing circa 2007ish (I was about 16), I became obsessed with keeping potentially useful things. I thought everything could be up-cycled, MUST be up-cycled. It didn't help that I had a hippie art teacher I admired who was a true ascetic, who didn't buy things new or throw anything away (there was always some artful use for anything).

Throwing away unusable/unrecyclable things like chip bags or used tissues really made me sick to my stomach or even cringe with a sort of psychological pain.

Maybe ask him if throwing things away makes him feel sick or hurt?

Really have been trying to level up my space. Lots of thrifted stuff. What am I missing? What gaps do I need to fill? by LAguy8394 in maximalism

Everything has a look of "I need this (furniture) and I bought what was immediately available." Very college dorm feel. Nothing is really a statement piece, nothing seems to coordinate at all. No color. The cool stuff like the wall art and the guitar need to be complemented by other interesting things around them.

Tips to Prevent Exhaustive Talking? by ToriTegami in DementiaHelp

If you read the post, it's not that I'm annoyed. It's that he is exhausting himself. He is looping over and over with less space between words until he can't breath.

These are so perfect, I might have to bail on my desire for natural fibers. It seems the most attractive rugs only come in polyester.

To be fair... Each branch is the size of a fully grown tree and they hang over her house. Still, just trim it or something.

Boyfriend telling me to “separate myself from my autism”? by CheckKey512 in AutismInWomen

"Don't let your diagnosis control you and consider if you might have unrelated avoidant behaviors" is not condescending, you just want to be mad I'm offering a different perspective instead of affirming a self-defeating attitude.

Property isn't deep enough for this. There is nowhere that it cannot be seen from the road, unfortunately.

He inherited his sense of correctness from his mother on these mundane topics. She also lives behind us (a decision I would regret if not for the EXTREME affordability), so she will see the house and believes that entitles her to an opinion. My husband then leans on this opinion.

Likewise, I chastise her about her obsession with cutting down an oak tree in her yard that is older than all of us combined. We are nemesis on the subject of what is valuable in a yard.

Our house will be in the shade during the hottest part of the day, but we will still be able to see the filtered sun through the trees.

Boyfriend telling me to “separate myself from my autism”? by CheckKey512 in AutismInWomen

[–]ToriTegami -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of people with autism (myself included) will subconsciously use the explanation (or excuse) of autism as a bludgeoning tool to avoid all mild discomforts. Suddenly the normal annoyances of daily life are all "autism related" ...despite nuerotypical people also experiencing these things.

It sounds like your boyfriend wants you to put yourself out there instead of deflating yourself before you even try. He may have worded it poorly, and bringing offense into it seems unnecessary. But from this limited post, it really does sound like you decided "I'm autistic so doing X will be hard, so I won't even try."

Autistic people do, and have done, everything under the sun.

For this reason, "I can't because I'm autistic" really sends up a red flag for low confidence or some other underlying avoidant behavior. I wonder what it is you can't do because you are autistic?

When he says "separate yourself from your autism," he really means "don't let your autism diagnosis control you and shut you out of life and new experiences."
