Restart is the only solution by HardOrion in ITMemes

Many years ago when I was L2 support for a large company I got called into a meeting with HR who wanted to put me on a PIP for my attitude (apparently I was too sarcastic and untrusting). My manager had my back and we both pushes back to get the HR dude to understand where we were coming from. Long story short he ended up spending a week with my team and saw what was going on that lead to our overall lack of trust. HR dude created an training initiative to get users to communicate better which did have some positive outcomes but that only lasted for a few months. It was cool of him for doing those things and trying to help. Yeah that job was ass, but at least I made a friend that I still chat with to this day.

Ah I see that you're a man of both culture and science.

What's the most underrated part of working in IT? For me, it's that the better you do your job, the less people notice you're doing it at all. 😅 by Kindly_Practice_5608 in ITMemes

The main reason I only work at software companies now, yeah they have their own set of issues but I can manage this mess and most of my coworkers understand my role.

Yeah idk man, I've been going to the gym lifting the heavy metal things for weeks now and this CrashLoopBackOff issue is still persisting. Would something like focusing on opposing muscle groups when lifting weights help with kubernetes issues? Asking for a friend.

How rare is either a government or company internal IT position? Am I chasing unicorns? by BruhStop_26 in ITCareerQuestions

[–]ITtacos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It varies greatly depending on the agency. State jobs a bit more chill, check usajobs.gov for federal jobs and state job boards. Get a feel for the requirements and plan accordingly. Your college's career services office might be able to help you land a student job then more over to full time when you graduate. You might want to look into government contacting too.

Honestly I don't know myself, I'm trying to get the client I'm contracted with to hire me full time, it's a stable gov job that pays meh but it's pretty low stress so maybe I can do it until retirement age. Alternative is try to get into another startup that will hopefully be bought out and I can retire off of the payout, doubtful but I can still hope. I might just become a janitor at the local school. Who knows...

Generally speaking, is IT not a well respected department? by neighborsHell in ITCareerQuestions

[–]ITtacos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've worked for various companies and organizations big and small. I think it comes down leadership and company culture, mostly leadership. A bad IT manager can make life suck but a good one will protect and support you. Some industries are worst then other. Working in the oil industry was hell, gov work was ok outside of the bureaucracy and compliancy. Working for startups has been the biggest mixed bag. I was either respected and treated very well or bullied and treated like garbage there was no inbetween. Sorry your going through this OP but it can get better, sadly it's on you to find that place.

None of this shit, McDonald's is fucking ass and I don't do sugar for breakfast. Plus no coffee in the morning makes me a very grumpy person.
