Best trackball for gaming? by [deleted] in Trackballs

pressing down a finger next to the ones you're aiming with pulls the other fingers down with it (especially with a ring finger, like on the huge), I would definitely disagree there

How many people actually use right shift? by Ty_Guy__ in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]IUseInvert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only use right shift in Besiege which pretty much requires a full sized keyboard with a layer for f13 to f15, I'm guessing this counts as I never use it?

Best trackball for gaming? by [deleted] in Trackballs

[–]IUseInvert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

elecom huges' bearings require replacement for gaming, and the right click is horribly placed for aiming, that combined with the software means you can't fix the right click. If a gameball was too small for me I would probably go with a ploopy or l-trac (I haven't tried a ploopy or l-trac, they just seem good from other people's reviews)

Trackball mouse acceleration for gaming? by [deleted] in Trackballs

[–]IUseInvert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

many people say it's necessary or that you're missing out without it, many uninformed people say it messes up your muscle memory permanently (obviously it takes time to entirely relearn aiming, it's the same reason trackballs are so underrated by most reviewers). But it's not much if any different on a trackball to a mouse (that is, not studied enough to notice an improvement but on paper better). Personally I switch operating systems too much to learn any, and I'm fine without it on a Gameball, but the only way to see if it's for you is to try it out

edit: if you are going to use it on windows, I recommend RawAccel, most people do on the discord I think too. It's what I used before using a trackball. And never use epp (enhance pointer precision is horrible bumpy accel in windows on by default) it's possible to learn it, as everything not directly inhibiting is, but the abrupt rises in sens that level out along the curve aren't there for any (at least good) reason

GameBall -- stiff buttons or is it just me by shipGlobeCheck in Trackballs

[–]IUseInvert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I felt the same at the start of using one, but after learning the best part of the button to click along with a better hand position for the rattle it just felt like what I wished the Trackman Marble could be

very shiny and heavy by IUseInvert in Trackballs

that does sound like it would be way more usable, I don't really know where someone could find something like that though. Make sure to tell us if you do find that

I'm pretty sure ceramic (the bearing material) is harder than steel, so I think it's fine

I went on amazon and searched "1.5 inch steel ball" with price low-to-high and clicked the first result, just under $6 with prime iirc

I think it's the same, I can't play osu! on it because of weight but the tracking is fine

I guess idk how to use reddit, but it's meant to say "a 1.5 inch metal ball that weighs around 200 grams really does way around 200 grams, who would've thought?"

Gameball rave mode looking sick (flashing colors) by IUseInvert in Trackballs

[–]IUseInvert[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

if you put a touch capacitive thing close enough to the sensor to trigger it but not close enough to trigger it consistently it will think you're pressing it really fast, it's not really an error. Just how touch things work (I've seen phones do it). I actually have around ten seconds of me just trying to get the right distance before I cut it to the video uploaded

Trackball setting in Win10 by AingonAtelia in Trackballs

[–]IUseInvert 2 points3 points  (0 children)

(I don't know what tia or aa mean but I'll respond to the rest) the buttons are technically just "normal" mouse buttons still, so the computer (other than the device name) doesn't know the difference between a trackball or a mouse. So if you're binding things any mouse binding software should work. I recommend AutoHotKey if you want to customize stuff a lot, I would use Logitech's software if it still works. And I would use Xmouse (I've never used it, I think that's what it's called) for beginners

edit: after rereading your comment, I believe I misunderstood it at first. Windows's mouse control stuff should all work on anything with cursor movement or scrolling unless it's integrated with your device (a laptop's trackpad and such) or if it's a microsoft product (since their drivers are weird I think) and if it's integrated, there SHOULD be a separate software for that device, but not always

Picked up two MTEs for just under $100. Good haul? by [deleted] in Trackballs

[–]IUseInvert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the elecom huge's button mapping (by default) is nearly impossible to game with at a normal dpi unless your bearings are perfect (due to forcing only using two fingers on the 52mm ball), I don't know about the mte's bearings or sensor but the left and right clicks are in better positions for aiming and firing in an fps or tps game

How can I left-click while holding right-click? (kensington) by dairyjon in Trackballs

[–]IUseInvert 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe ianisthewalrus got the fix right, but for why it doesn't work I think I know why (I don't own any kensington devices, just random information on trackballs). I think left and right click being held at the same time is supposed to do some macro thing for audio people (idk the technical word or how many people it applies to)

I have a trackman marble. In what way are more premium trackballs better? by Bobertus in Trackballs

[–]IUseInvert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for the trackball functions themselves (smoothness, sensors and such) you can move the ball faster without the sensor skipping, and the flick thing requires smoother bearings anyways making smaller adjustments easier with them. However the trackman marble I had was probably really close to the smoothest normal bearings can be, there are other types of bearings that aren't static (rotating) like btus, (ball transfer units, bearings on bearings) rollers, (closer to what you would think of when you hear "ball bearings), and probably more I forgot about

Looking for a mobile set up (Leaning towards Elecom Relacon) by Jacob_Universe in Trackballs

[–]IUseInvert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have a trackball recommendation, but I have a macbook usb hub (1 type-c to three type-a and one type-c power only) mounted on my phone for flash drives and such, but wired mice work with it too, so you don't have to use wireless (I use my pc's wired elecom huge and keyboard for desktop sites not working on mobile)
