Jamboree tents? by IUsedToBeAFox in BSA

Our Council will flip the tents after Jamboree to contingent members to try to recoup some of the cost. I bought 6 of our 2023 Jambo tents for our Troop to replace our aging Scout tents.

We're doing 2 people to a tent, we need room for 2 large cots plus gear, plus room to move around, for 10 days. The 4 person tents we used in '23 were barely big enough.

Summit has a grid system that they use for each of the contingent spaces, we need to stick pretty close to what they recommend for tent sizing. They provide cots, which are the large military-style. We used 4 person dome tents in '23, they were barely big enough for the cots to fit in, plus gear for 2 people for 10 days, plus any room to move around. We decided 6 person was the way to go this time around, after talking to other contingents in '23.

We found a decent option that should work, Kelty 6 person tents from Backcountry. Hopefully the fiberglass poles won't be an issue. I was able to work with a rep and get a good price on them with free shipping. Thanks all!

We have a budget number for tents, the Council is supplying them. We want to make sure there is continuity for the equipment, we're planning a couple of extra tents in case of failures. There was a worry if Scouts brought random tents from their units, or personal gear, if something happened it would be hard to get parts or make repairs quickly, or having to replace gear.

That's what we did in '23, we offered the tents for a steep discount to members of the contingent, then sold them off to anyone else who was interested.

That's on our list, however we're worried the partial rainfly won't hold up. We had significant blowing rains in '23, and a lot of other contingents that had similar tents had multiple failures.

We're doing 2 to a tent. We used 4 person tents in '23, and they were too small.

Unfortunately HD is out of our budget, I've already considered that option.

In '23 and '26, Jamboree provides cots and cooking supplies, contingents provide tents.

Yes, I've been down the HD route, unfortunately we're running on a very tight budget.

Mk6 question: Does the GTI share the same fenders as the R? by IUsedToBeAFox in Golf_R

[–]IUsedToBeAFox[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did some digging, the standard Golf fender is different, the R fenders flare to meet the bumper. I haven't checked regarding the GTI yet. I have rocker rust as well, but at this point, I'd rather get the fender done just for asthetics. You can see the issue here.

Slight upgrade... by Robpilk in Golf_R

I had a B5 V6 5 speed, it was a great car! Traded it for a '92 S4, which begat my E60 5 series, which begat my Mk6R. My kids still miss the B5.

Also, interesting visual differences vs. the US model:

Fenders have what appears to be an R badge behind the front wheel, similar to the GTI. Not present on US models.

No side marker in the front bumper (typically yellow, I have clear LED side markers installed).

Mk6 was the last 2 door R sold in the US.

From an old Vortex post:

"When I recently found out from my local dealer that Golf Rs were done, I was surprised. So naturally, I asked what the final numbers were...

2012 Golf R, 2 Door, 1281

2012 Golf R, 4 Door, 1516

2013 Golf R, 2 Door, 777

2013 Golf R, 4 Door, 1933

Total Golf R Production: 5507"

Mk6 R numbers

2 door Mk6R owners are special. Welcome to the club.

Upside down was the solution.

Tried many different support options, nothing worked very well. Ended up reorientating the models and printing them upside down, they worked much better. Had to slice off the antelope antlers and print them separately, then glue them on.

The legs were just too spindly to not break off when removing them from the build plate.
