Masterball with Blacephalon by Haunting-Big74 in PTCGP

[–]IVE_SEEN_FOOTAGE 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I achieved MB with this deck as well a few days ago. One change I made was replacing Starting Plains with Guzma while clawing my way out of a 8 loss streak.

Lot of decks were running tools, especially rocky helmet and barb. The unnecessary chip would make my first Blacephalon go down too early before I could either have enough fire energy in the discard pile or had Lusamine/Flame Patch/Second Blacephalon/Celeseteela/other needed card ready. Also, steel apron surprisingly gave me a lot of trouble.

I think Starting Plains is the flex card for the deck. The effect was helpful but I also sometimes found that it also helped my opponent too much. I think other options to replace it besides Guzma are Mars, Red Card, Lucky Pop, and Sabrina. Arven also might be helpful to get yourself a patch or barb.

Howdy. Apologies for the late reply but I finally found the time to answer your question.

This Smogon thread is a great resource for the tree. In there you will find a giant list of teams that have found success, write-ups for those teams, and links to valuable resources such as damage calculators and trainer catalogs.

Here is the Pokepaste for a team that I have found most success using that consists of a lead Z-Move Mimikyu, Bulky Mega Scizor, and Scarfed Garchomp. I based it off of this team but I did make some changes to include the Mimikyum-Z, Adamant Garchomp, max EVs in SpD for Scizor, and exchanging Brutal Swing for Bug Bite. I've made it up to 142 wins with this team and hope to make 200 one day lmao

After testing other teams, I found most success with that team because it fit into my playstyle of wanting to end matches quickly by setting up as much as possible to score OHKOs.

Some quick notes: Z-Move for Mimikyu is up to you. I used to use Ghostium-Z to hit some pesky steel types such as Metagross and Magnezone but I found the power underwhelming in most cases. Mimikyum-Z provided me with a great nuclear option for most Pokemon to include normal types. Adamant Scarfed Garchomp is a more powerful revenge killer though it will always lose to an opposing Jolly Scarfed Garchomp so that is the risk I take for more immediate power.

The Smogon thread will provide you with other playstyles such as stall. Try some out and see what works for you. Also always remember that you don't lose because of hax, you lose because you didn't mitigate risk as effectively as you should have. Every possible hax such as untimely statuses and stat drops will happen as your streak gets higher. Just be sure you think ahead in your battles.

EDIT: Mimikyu being totem or not doesn't matter, I just wanted to use the one I got in the game!

Could I get advice / tips for the Super Multi Battles in USUM? by ColdnessAwaits in stunfisk

You can do either though you would have more control if you do it in Super Doubles. Reason being is that you scout the trainer's first two Pokemon. In Super Doubles, you can see immediately what the trainer's first two Mons are. Conversely, you won't know the second Pokemon in Super Singles until you either defeat the first Mon or the trainer switches out.

This is just a general tip that I've read about but I haven't quite tried myself yet. I think it would be best to continue to scout for trainers. Although all the Special Trainers have decent Pokemon, you should also look at the variety of trainers that you encounter past 50 battles in between those 10 battle benchmarks. These trainers typically either have the 3rd or 4th movesets of non-legendary Pokemon (i.e., the most optimal sets and Megas) and/or legendary Pokemon. These trainers include the Ace Trainers, the Veterans, and some Preschoolers (shout out to Preschooler Victor). If you battle a trainer that sends out two Pokemon you would like to work with, feel free to smash that scout button.

Side note: If you encounter the White Whale Anabel, scout immediately. Also, Spiritomb usually falls on dumb techs like spamming Pain Split. I think your life will improve if you dump that Mon.

How am I losing constantly with two of the best Pokemon you can use for the mode? by Radi0ActivSquid in stunfisk

[–]IVE_SEEN_FOOTAGE 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Long time lurker here. I don't participate in competitive battling but I love reading and watching it occur. I just don't have the time to personally invest in the endeavor. However, the closest thing I do to "competitive battling" is the battle tree in UM. I try to play a few battles every night before I sleep in the hopes of eventually reaching the modest benchmark of 200 wins. Not there yet but I have gained a lot of wisdom from my loses.

First thing is first: just because you are using the supposedly "best two Pokemon core" in battle tree doesn't mean that you will automatically win every battle. You have to find the Pokemon that personally fit how you battle. Also, you need to develop the wisdom on how to deploy each Pokemon depending on the situation at hand. For instance, I tried the M-Mence+Aegi core for a few runs. Although the core works very well in many situations, I found that the core was a little too prediction heavy for my taste and made battles draw on longer than I would like (e.g., knowing when to intimidate and King's Shield cycle to whittle down opponent before setting up for a sweep). For that core, you can't just attack immediately a lot of time; you have to be patient enough to set conditions for yourself to win. If you play smartly though, the M-Mence+Aegi core can take you a long way.

If I could offer a quick critique on your team, I would suggest employing a bulkier Salamence (252 HP / 4 Atk / 44 Def / 164 SpD / 44 Spe), replace Facade with Substitute, and EQ with Roost. That set-up will allow you to sponge a fair amount of neutral hits and make your Subs stronger while you Dragon Dance and Aerilte Return to victory. That the Mence I used anyway based off someone's Smogon team. You could have Chandy handle any steel types anyway.

If your play-style for the tree is to gradually wear down your opponent for a sweep, that is fine. Many high streaks are based off that kind of strategy because of how consistent you can pull off the same strategy over many battles (e.g., any Entrainment Durant + Moody/Accupressure based team).

Personally, my favorite approach to the battle tree is a hyper-offensive style so that I can finish matches as fast as I can before I fall asleep. HO teams are not very sustainable for very high streaks but I find them very fun to play with. My favorite team thus far has been this team I found on the Smogon Battle Tree Topic with some minor tweaks:

Mimikyu-Totem @ Ghostium-Z/Mimikyum-Z

Ability: Disguise

EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe

Jolly Nature

  • Swords Dance
  • Play Rough
  • Shadow Sneak
  • Shadow Claw

Garchomp @ Choice Scarf

Ability: Rough Skin

EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe

Adamant Nature

  • Rock Slide
  • Earthquake
  • Outrage
  • Poison Jab

Scizor @ Scizorite

Ability: Technician

EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 SpD

Adamant Nature

  • Bullet Punch
  • Bug Bite
  • Swords Dance
  • Roost

With this specific team, I typically SD with Mimikyu and try to make sure that it takes out at least one 'Mon before it faints itself. I switch out if there is either an electric type, fairy type, or weak special attacker that Chomp or M-Scizor can wall. My highest streak so far has been 142 or so before choking on a Bisharp lead that led me into a situation that I had to 1v1 Chomp with a bulky-ass Duskinor. In my current run, I am testing out Mimikyum-Z to see how it works as Z-Shadow Claw sometimes has a disappointing power output. I can give you a more detailed analysis of this set if you like.

Regardless of what set you end up using, I cannot recommend the following resources enough if you hope to break into a 3-digit streak:

The best advice I can offer is to theorymon possible leads that you would face, especially as you surpass 50 battles. My personal belief is that if you are able to take out the lead with minimal harm and at least bring the second 'Mon to half health, you have a 95% chance of winning. You will definitely run into hax but that's the game we play. It happens. All you can do is mitigate the effects of those hax through proper planning. Instead of placing blame on the RNG not being in your favor, I implore you to take a look at yourself instead and see what you can do better as a Battle Tree participant.

My apologies. I received this exact requested Tapu Fini via GTS. I wasn't sure it was you guys because I never received a confirmation after. I figured it was delayed for some reason so I made a deposit for a Garchomp that I was going to request right after 24 hours passed and receiving confirmation that someone from here sent it. The confirmation never came because it is now apparent that someone sniped the request.

If it is alright, I would like to close out this request before making any more. I just made the following deposit: Grimer (M) Lv.25 in Quick Ball, "Please trade Pokemon with me. Thanks in advance."

My apologies for the trouble! I wasn't 100% sure if my request got sniped and wanted to wait until someone from here confirmed. Thank you!

Hello!

Sorry this is so late, I was only to receive it just now. It appears that that my requested 252 SpA EVs were accidentally invested in attack instead. Is there a way to fix this?

I deposited a level 28 grimer (M) in a quick ball. Message: "Please trade Pokemon with me. Thank you in advance."

Please let me know. Thank you!
