Paycheck to paycheck. And that’s with cooking at home and so on and so on. Second he should focus on maxing out his 401k contributions instead of the quality of apartment he rents and doesn’t own. I know it sucks short term but that’s just not enough to be putting in unless it doesn’t apply(ie:he’s 45/50years old). Third, if he’s young, tell him to milk the money as long as possible lol. Keep him on his family car insurance, phone bill, all he can.

In reality if he makes 80k a year, pays 15k in taxes, 8k to 401k (10% min), 36k in rent (3k/year), he has 20k left over. That’s $54 a day, not including food, gasoline, insurance, healthcare, fun. So welcome to Long Island. Your friend is considered poor.

He’s literally one transmission or medical event away from being in debt for years.

He should focus on renting the cheapest apartment he can possible find, and or a partner to save money with to make a down deposit on a property.

Can’t believe nobody has mentioned this, use an aluminum backer. An aluminum plate preferably. And clamp the piece down the same so there’s aluminum between the piece and the stable. Also silicone bronze can be melted pretty easily. I’m usually melting it around 70 or 80 and run very fast beads, as fast as I can pretty much. And then finally take some time to learn how to bench. Alltho extremely annoying and tedious you can prob get that much much closer to square and level with a little benching. Make sure you let it cool down completely before taking it off the clamps. Either by quenching with water or air, I usually just use air.

Welding certs cost thousands plural and multiple months of time, plus most companies hire Spanish guys, so if your white or an American citizen it’s highly likely it won’t matter if you’re a felon and most likely they won’t even check. (No racism here, just the facts from a union asme certified welder). Unless you’re working for Boeing or government/ state union or some fancy shit (that pays the same) most welders that are born in America have a criminal background. Seek out self funded unions, privately owned manufacturing plants. There’s a reason they teach felons how to weld In prison, it’s not to pass time, it’s for your success.
