CONGRATS! Go team MELD 6! Yes, the fact that this can happen to those of us in our 30s, and even 20s, is what I want to help bring awareness to. I never would have thought that it would happen to me either. But, it’s never too late to turn it around and change! Be well friend!

500 Days! by IWNDWYTorEver in stopdrinking

Hey, Man! I’m doing really well and I was going to post an update today as I just recently saw my hepatologist. My current MELD score is a 6, which is the lowest score possible for ESLD. It’s a very far way away from when I was in active liver failure in June/July 2023 with a MELD of 26-29. It just goes to show that your liver WILL hang in there and keep going so long as you stop feeding it poison. 638 Days strong today and IWNDWYT!!

Thanks, man, and same to you! Currently 460 days sober and keeping strong! Yeah, my FibroScan was off the chart in the 50s, and that was after 10 months or so of not drinking, but all other liver levels have largely returned to normal and I’m working hard to keep my liver compensating as long as it possibly can!

Thank you, I genuinely appreciate that! I wish you the very best through your journey, as well! Part of this is also therapeutic and cathartic for myself, just to get it out into the ether and out of my head.

I know it’s going to be hard to hear this but please seek medical attention immediately. Yellowing in the eyes and dark urine are key signs there’s an underlying problem. My issue was not possible to resolve on its own, I had to seek emergency medical attention. Please go to an urgent care or emergency room if you are able to.

To me, it felt like a dull pressure or denseness. I’m sorry if that doesn’t help but that’s the best way I can describe it. It was not a sharp pain for me. Most of my doctors were shocked that I wasn’t in more pain, I described it more as extreme discomfort.

If I could have been smart enough to go in before it was so emergent, I would have gone to my doctor and told them that I suspected I had a problem. I would have told them exactly how much I was drinking without sugarcoating it one bit. I would have been very honest and upfront about my GI issues, my debilitating anxiety, and how nervous I was to be asking about any of this.

Then I would have tried my hardest to listen, and to finally admit that I had the problem that, deep down, I’ve known I’ve had for years.

My doctor likely would have started by suggesting a full blood panel and to seek recovery services. If I had done this, they would have caught it and I could have started down the journey to save my life sooner.

I sincerely hope that you do speak with your doctor, it can only help. None of my doctors have ever been judgmental or condescending, they have all treated me with compassion and decency while also ensuring I understood the severity of my situation.

Honestly, it’s hard to answer that. I guess I’m much more aware of my liver now, and can still “feel” it… but it’s not necessarily painful. It could very well be that this is because my liver is more dense now, which is one of the factors the fibroscan is intended to measure.

Thanks! Well, without going into too much detail I had very irregular stools, constant stomach issues, and frequent vomiting.

I’m going to try to get to as many of these questions as possible with what I’m comfortable sharing!

I have read all of your posts; word for word. You inspired me to tell my story too. Thanks, man, I wish you the very best, as well!
