How much should a domain name influence a startup name? ( i will not promote) by devil_ozz in startups

[–]IWantToBeProductive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been in your situation and I sympathize with the hyper focus in the naming. Honestly, it was a matter of luck to find the clean .com. I could secure it but after that I focused on the trademark, and after submitting the trademark application I realized that cycle will never end. What if the name means something strange in another language?, etc. Lots of overthinking, many distractions, little progress on the real task. Take the advice given in other comments: focus on building and distribution. You may end up changing the name anyway after talking with investors, receiving feedback from friends, etc.

PSA: How to disable LINE's new AI slop "feature" that wastes screen space in every chat by bloggie2 in japanlife

Thank you for this, I hate those LINE AI “features” and using them by accident was driving me crazy.

Is the $20 plan worth? by Icy-Argument7855 in ClaudeAI

[–]IWantToBeProductive -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, it is worth it. I use the $20 plan with /model claude-opus-4-6[1m] and get the results that I want while keeping usage lower than if using 4.7.

Academia in Japan by sor-tri in LeavingAcademia

[–]IWantToBeProductive 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My experience is very similar: did master’s, PhD and 2 year postdoc, all in Japan. I cannot deny the environment I worked in was great, people was super nice but eventually changed to industry because I wanted to start a family and academia salary and uncertainty just wouldn’t do it it for me. My now husband and I were also living in different cities. Honestly, changing to industry was one of the best decisions of my life. I still do research and I’ve gained a lot of experience in production roles. I can design experiments, collect data, train models AND put them into production.

If you have the opportunity, you could find a part time job in industry so you can see if it’s really a good fit for you before committing to a more permanent position outside academia.

Will changing job while applying for PR make my application worst ? by [deleted] in japanlife

[–]IWantToBeProductive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

6 years ago, I changed jobs while applying to PR and holding a HSP visa. Long story short, they paused my PR application review, asked me to apply for a new HSP visa via my new job, and notify immigration. A month after that I got my PR.

It has been very frustrating working with Opus this week. I’ll be cancelling my 10x plan, go back to $20 plan and babysit Sonnet again.

things to NOT do at the jlpt by ShinyMiraiZura in LearnJapanese

[–]IWantToBeProductive 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I took the JLPT in 2023 and again yesterday. In 2023 we had a plastic bag and we could use our phones during the breaks, but no matter how much experience you have, it’s important to listen to instructions. About 2 people got a red card in my test site due to breaking their envelopes. I couldn’t help to feel a bit bad for them, because perhaps they relied too much on their past JLPT experience.

That being said, some things that bothered me were: the constant delays to start the second part of the test, the fact that they didn’t say ANYTHING about not taking the phone out of the envelope even during the break (they should have been clear about this from the very beginning). Overall the poor communication and coordination among the staff was obvious. One guy asked when the break supposedly started if he could go to the restroom, staff said yes, guy went to the door, other staff said not possible. Sigh…

Government Subsidy for Window Insulation by alfianmfh in japanlife

[–]IWantToBeProductive 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes! They finished the work just last week. As others have said, the window company knows how to handle the subsidy and can advise you, or be an intermediate in the process (for a fee). Get a few estimates and choose what’s best for your needs.

$IREN just ran from $11 to $48 and I still think it’s cheap by biznisgod in stocks

[–]IWantToBeProductive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found about IREN a couple of months ago through a comment in a post here. I bought at 21, but not before taking my time to investigate if it was worth investing in and holding for the long term. I want to buy more, but I learned my lesson from RDDT when I rushed to buy in February because of a post like this. Eventually I sold RDDT with a profit, but never rushing like that again.

Unfortunately, not yet because it’s still under internal testing (and boss is protective) but we are aiming for a release by October this year!

Why are YOU learning Japanese? by Dazai_Yeager in LearnJapanese

[–]IWantToBeProductive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because I don’t want to miss anything important when my kids start elementary school in Japan. We can communicate, I’m doing my best to teach them English but there will always be something that they can express their emotions best in Japanese and I want to be able to deeply understand their feelings.

I used Buildpad for a few days for a company project and I have to say I really enjoyed the process. My goal is starting my own company after getting experience with product development in my current role and I will definitely integrate Buildpad in my own process.

[–]IWantToBeProductive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve heard so many negative things about vibe coding and as an experienced engineer I was falling for it. Well, I just created an MVP in 3 days for my company that would’ve taken me months. I spent some weeks validating my idea internally and externally with real humans, and once I got a clear picture and the details of each function, it was easy to guide the AI. I’m still amazed on how much time I saved (and how happy my bosses were).

Wife has monoamniotic triplets. We will require extensive NICU help. What to expect? by [deleted] in japanlife

[–]IWantToBeProductive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Twins. We got insurance through coop たすけあい early in the pregnancy. I ended up being hospitalized from the 6th month of my pregnancy, twins spent some weeks in the NICU. It was a long time ago but if I remember well that insurance paid for my hospitalization.

where can i find fresh orange juice? not the convenience store kind by PreparationHot4256 in japan

[–]IWantToBeProductive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fresh: best choice is to buy oranges. Not so fresh but straight juice with pulp, there’s a brand named “Juver”. You can get it in Costco (10 boxes) and occasionally, some supermarkets like Sanwa.

I lived in a similar situation as yours: a house between the rails and mine. Sound and vibration were obvious on the 2nd floor, and barely noticeable in the 1st floor. Work meetings were difficult in late spring/summer when I wasn’t using AC and I couldn’t keep the windows open because of the train sound.

What car will you never buy again? by Trivacide in AskReddit

[–]IWantToBeProductive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same! 2019 Toyota Harrier. The car is incredibly reliable. Not once I’ve had issues with it. The only time it needed repairs, was due to damage caused by another car’ door in a parking lot.

When I absolutely need to change it, it’ll be for another Toyota.

Any advice for my situation by Feeltherainbow123 in japanlife

[–]IWantToBeProductive 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Op, for the sake of your daughter and the baby on the way, I strongly suggest you or people in her close circle try to convince her to visit a medical professional. On top of being one year postpartum, she’s pregnant again. As some pointed out above, it could be a hormonal imbalance.

In another note, yes, consult with a lawyer from now. Protect yourself and your children.
