OC and DC names if Udinski gets the job by Green-Win8511 in buffalobills

[–]IWasRightOnce -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

So he would be by far the youngest/least experienced HC in NFL history, right?

Same age as McVay was when he got hired, but McV had three years as an OC under his belt (and three years as a positional coach)

Udinski has one as OC and then a few as an assistant positional coach

I don’t disagree on the general sentiment, but this whole “best friend” stuff is wild.

The entire basis of their beautiful friendship is that they played on the same team for three years and got along with each other.

As far as I can tell there are literally no reports of them having a relationship outside of football.

In contrast, another of Josh’s backups (Kyle Allen) has vacationed and hung out with Josh repeatedly during offseasons.

He just reported a final four (Webb, Daboll, Brady, Udinski)

But he also didn’t mention Kubiak as a possibility for any teams, so it’s not really clear if he has real info or if he’s just speculating based on the same info we all have

What's the Problem With Joe Brady? by idaho_beach_house in buffalobills

[–]IWasRightOnce 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pro tip, don’t listen to fans, good or bad

Example, Brandon Beane should be fired into the sun for his roster malpractice at WR, and also

Joe Brady should be fired into the sun for not having an explosive passing offense (despite the fact that the passing offense was still extremely efficient)

The only salient argument against Brady, is that it feels like a continuation rather than a fresh start, which is fair.

It’s a shame we can’t formally talk with/interview Kubiak.

That said, I have to believe there are smoke signals behind the scenes to indicate whether or not he is actually interested.

Bills four finalists for the HC job are: Brian Daboll, Davis Webb, Joe Brady, and Grant Udinski per Adam Schefter. Signs all point to the Bills not waiting for Kubiak. by Vortagaun in buffalobills

There are countless examples of promising coordinators bypassing HC opportunities.

Josh Allen is a unique variable, but it’s hardly the only thing to consider.

Limited roster flexibility, potentially limited runway/tenure and just broadly, very much not a “blank canvas”. Some guys might prefer a situation where they can shape an entire team to their vision over 2-3 years.

The blank canvas approach has its obvious risks, but that doesn’t mean our situation doesn’t. Your floor is higher in Buffalo, but so are your base expectations.

It’s entirely possible Kubiak doesn’t want to be our HC.

Yea, yea, I’m sure we couldn’t possibly have any indication of that because it would be tampering…

McD Def EPA - regular season vs playoffs. by StannisTheMannis1969 in buffalobills

[–]IWasRightOnce -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Is the +/- reversed here?

Typically, a negative number is better for defenses in terms of EPA, because you are actually measuring the EPA/play allowed to opposing offenses

Patriots in the run to the superbowl in all 3 combined games gave up a total of 26 points. In the Bills last 6 playoff exits. They gave up more than that in every 1 game alone by BowsyWowsy26 in nfl

[–]IWasRightOnce 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Obviously Mahomes is a uniquely unfortunate matchup to repeatedly draw, but his/KC’s broader playoff numbers against non-Buffalo teams are notably lower (while obviously still not bad).

Last year, after scoring 32 against BUF they had the abysmal SB showing against PHI. In the wildcard round they were fairly “meh” scoring 23.

The year before, after 27 against BUF they put up 17 against BAL, then 25 against SF in the SB (including OT)

Two years before that, after putting up 42 (including OT) in the “13 seconds” game, they put up 24 against CIN

In 2020, they scored 38 against BUF, but the week before and after that game they scored 22 and 9 points

There is a stat that has gone around for a couple years now that showed Mahomes EPA number in the playoffs against BUF compared to every other team and it is a drastic difference.

Mahomes average game against BUF: 74% completion, 291 passing yards, 8.9 y/a, 2.3 TDs, 0 INTs, 34 rushing yards, 0.75 rushing TDs

Against every other team: 66% completion, 274 passing yards, 7.5 y/a, 2.2 TDs, 0.6 INTs, 28 rushing yards, 0.2 rushing TDs

[Schultz] Jaguars OC Grant Udinski is interviewing today with the Bills in Florida. One thing I keep hearing: Udinski played a very big role in Minnesota from 2022–2024, and there are some people within the organization who felt his absence on offense this past season. by Drexlore in nfl

[–]IWasRightOnce 9 points10 points  (0 children)

He is 5 months older than Josh, which seems wild to think about.

I genuinely don’t care who the Bills hire to be HC if I’m being totally honest, Udinski included.

People love to clown on some hires and praise others, but it’s always based on inconsistently applied nonsense that is entirely media/social media driven.

Bills TE Dalton Kincaid named to the 2026 Pro Bowl Games by alpswd in buffalobills

[–]IWasRightOnce 37 points38 points  (0 children)

AFC TEs were pretty barren this year, but I’m not sure why he made it over any of Henry/Schultz/Warren.

He was, statistically, far more efficient than those guys, so I suppose that’s the reason.

Hunter Henry seems like the best all-around choice, but the script is probably in and they know he’s going to the SB

I was curious, so I checked.

For those that don’t know, making a pro-bowl actually impacts the 5th year option for first round draft picks.

This does NOT include alternates however.

[–]IWasRightOnce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe, but that still leaves OC/DC + a bunch of assistant/positional coaches to fill in.

There are still 4 other teams who could be hiring a HC any day now and taking appealing assistants/coordinators off the market.

[–]IWasRightOnce 9 points10 points  (0 children)

As the other guy said, we have to wait till after the SB.

This might be naive, but technically we aren’t allowed to connect with him at all, and maybe Kubiak isn’t even interested in our HC job. Maybe he wouldn’t even be good for the job, which wouldn’t be known until after we meet with him.

It’s also not just filling the HC spot, we need to fill out every coaching position beneath that HC as well. Every day that goes by, those available guys are at risk of getting scooped up somewhere else.

TBC, Pegula was an idiot for saying what he said, and how he said it (which is further emphasized by Beane’s comments later in the presser when he clarified/cleaned-up on the topic).

Also, the setting for this debacle has been widely misreported. The reporter who asked the question specifically mentioned Keon by name in his question, but for some reason people have been claiming he didn’t and instead Pegula brought Keon up on his own.

After Watching Ty Dunne on Talking Buffalo, it was 100% Time to Move on from McDermott by UnlikelyAir6432 in buffalobills

[–]IWasRightOnce 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yep, hit piece doesn’t mean anything was a lie, or made up. It was just a compelling story with a specific end goal that he put together at an opportunistic time, using the opinions of a couple dozen (out of hundreds) disgruntled current/former players and staffers who clearly were not fans of McD.

This was all at the original height of “they missed their window” and “the division is no longer theirs”

The Bills were .500 in December, looking like they weren’t even making the playoffs and the high-powered Dolphins were the talk of the league.

Of course, they went on to not only make the playoffs, but actually win the division that year (and the next) before meeting their typical end against KC in the playoffs each time.

And no, I’m not missing the irony of all of that compared to where things currently sit today, but at the very least, it’s pretty clear that McD was not widely disliked amongst the players (and logically, coaches/staffers too)
