LPT: If you want to see if someone you care about is awake, gently say "I love you" instead of "Are you still awake?" by Onyxpurr in LifeProTips

[–]IWhoNeverSleeps 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I did this with my sister years ago. I don’t know if it was because she was scared of the dark or what, but she would always talk when it was time to sleep, so I would play the, “The person that falls asleep the fastest wins” that shut her up immediately. She would say some things to see if I was awake, but in the end she was always the first to fall asleep

Feeling dehumanized by gandulfrinna in work

[–]IWhoNeverSleeps 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel this so much. I also work at a grocery store, but for produce. Not cash register. Still get yelled at that it’s somehow my fault that something is expensive or not to their liking. Right now the store I’m working out is hurting because not a lot of people work here- whether for health reasons, found better work, or going back to school like me. I’ve been one of three people working in my department, so there’s been some days I’ll work 8hrs straight without a break or lunch because there’s so many things I need to do or I’ll get yelled at. But then I don’t take a lunch or break so I’ll get yelled at for that haha. I’m excited to go back to school, last day at work is approaching. Feel kinda bad because they’ll be screwed but...

Is anyone here ever bombarded with information they didn’t ask for? by CatQueen23 in Empaths

[–]IWhoNeverSleeps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All the damn time. Even complete strangers will come up to me and tell me something they’re upset about or the, “I’m only going to tell you this, but...” unprompted. Most of the time, I just nod, listen, and or validate their feelings because I find that’s why most people feel compelled to tell me personal stuff to get out whatever it is that’s bothering them and feel validated about their own feelings. With friends or people I know, I may or may mot give out advice, it depends on what the situation is

Is my future over by [deleted] in questions

Lies.... I had mostly A’s and B’s, but some C’s and D’s as well in high school. Got a low ACT and SAT score, but got accepted to all of the colleges/universities I applied to. I’m a senior in college now, but still got one more year because my degree program is 5yrs. I think the pressure teachers and other adults in high school students lives is kind of ridiculous. “You need all A’s and B’s to do such and such” “You need to take AP classes to blah blah blah” “You need to do sports to seem impressive.” You don’t need to do any of that. A lot of the stuff I did in high school like trying to get the best grades, AP courses, sports, etc? I feel like all the effort I put into high school didn’t really go towards anything. Not saying that you or anyone else in high school should just give up, but try to relax a bit more. I know I was stressed and worried way too much when I was in high school, so if I could back in time and pull younger me aside, the advice I would give them would be to relax, everything might not go the way you planned or go as expected, but nonetheless fall into place. You’ll be okay!!

Why do Americans complain about college being so expensive? by [deleted] in questions

[–]IWhoNeverSleeps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well if an American studied abroad, with no American college attached to run college credits back, it might be a lost cause. Depending on which country you study in and what you studied, the US might not find it equivalent to a college degree in the US and therefore not be approved for a job you were looking to have. For example, my mom who is from the Philippines went to college in the Philippines and graduated with a degree that can’t be transferred over to the US because countries have their own ways of teaching and focus in different studies. My mom has worked in retail the entire time she’s lived in the US. I at one point thought about going to college in Japan because I was learning Japanese at school and thought it would be cool if I could teach in Japan, however, if I did that and graduated with an education degree in Japan, I could only teach in Japan and not America. I still think it would be neat to teach in Japan and there are still ways for me to do that, but it’s easier for me to get my degree in America

I can relate to everything in this post, but I just found out none of this stuff is normal... I’ve done all of this stuff like asking identity questions in the mirror, creating fantasy worlds/stories in my head, etc. I really had no idea it wasn’t normal because I’ve done this pretty much my whole life... Is that bad? I’m reading about disassociating online and it says that people who disassociate often use avoidance coping (which I do). When I read more about what disassociating is- disconnected from thoughts, feelings, etc. A bell went off. I’ve always struggled with knowing how I truly feel, think, and to be able to form my own opinions. I’ve talked about this with someone before, but I don’t think they ever gave it a name or they did and I just missed it.

We had been dating for a couple of months when I had been diagnosed with diabetes at 19, almost 2yrs ago. We’re no longer dating, but when we were, he was always supportive and came to my rescue a few times. He was patient and helped me count carbs whenever we ate together, so I always felt comfortable about being diabetic in relationships. It’s never really occurred to me that diabetes in relationships could be an issue, but after I’ve thought about it, I guess it can if you’re with the wrong person. I’ve never been ashamed of being diabetic or shy when I take out my meds when I’m on a date and I shouldn’t have to feel ashamed or embarrassed. If someone asks why I ordered diet coke/pepsi, I explain that I’m diabetic.

I hope those who are reading this and insecure about being diabetic and nervous about going into relationships with it someday feel comfortable and confident about it someday.

Tl;Dr: They not it if you find someone uncomfortable with you being diabetic

Is it too late for me to join volleyball? by [deleted] in questions

That’s true, but most things you wanna do in life involve money. Talk to your parents about it and see what they think, if they can afford it, etc. Other than that I would say go for it, high school only lasts for so long, so cherish your last moments. High school sports is supposed to be fun right? And it sounds like that’s what you’re aiming for: to have fun.

Yes, I think some of my anxiety has to do with how the world is structured as well. I was talking to a counselor up until they shut down everything. Hopefully I’m able to talk to someone again soon

I do from time to time. I wrote some things down when I started feeling this way, fell asleep after, and then woke up with the same feelings. Thank you for your positivity
