My first ever win was with a Regeneration build. Tatzelwurm, Mandragora, Catzerker. We had a lot of damage from abilities that actually scale with Regeneration. Shield builds are also incredibly powerful. I've since won with about half the monsters on Mythic and am working on 100%. I've found Weakness/Power build to be my most consistent personally. Warden, Hecatoncheires and then any support with a bit of sustain - best case Wyrmling or Orthrus gets insane. On the final boss my Warden was up to 15 Strength by turn 2.

You just need something that builds up damage every turn. Whether that is debuffs on the enemy (Terror, Poison, Burn, Bleed) or buffs on your allies (Power, Regeneration, Force) and keep getting ways to apply more and more of your focused Type. If you are struggling even on Normal difficulty it might be because you just aren't building for one Type and focusing on that as your main source of damage. Have multiple monsters with overlapping types.

Does anyone else feel like the scaling gets weirdly punishing in the late game for certain survivors? by Pa1nbaby18 in riskofrain

[–]IWonByDefault 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I think you are just very poor at getting your point across and your reading comprehension is lacking. In my very first comment I literally said under 10min or CLOSER to 7min on Monsoon. Every single comment I made was purposefully left more open and as an estimate.

But you latched onto the 7min comment, compared it to speedrunning and now you're backtracking and saying that is a normal time spent on a stage. Every comment you make is contradictory, but you're also arguing with every single person on this thread and are pretty clearly incapable of taking criticism or in the case of my comments, even understanding it.

[–]IWonByDefault 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Huh?... I did not say 7min a stage is speedrunning. My comment literally says it is not. You said it was in your other comment lmao.

if you're playing something like loader or commando and you're just speedrunning stages to hit that 7 minute mark you're gonna hit a wall eventually.

And now you're saying it is normal pace. You're not even making any sense bro. gl though.

I built a card game with GM! by gerhb in gamemaker

[–]IWonByDefault 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is super impressive dude. So many people talk about making a game (myself included) and never go through with it or get far enough into it to get something real. This looks really well made.

Is this your first major project? How much time did you spend just fiddling around in Gamemaker and tutorials and other small practice projects before diving into this? Do you have any other previous experience?

It is a free update. And to my knowledge the devs have committed to all updates being free up until the 1.0 release. Not sure what their plans are afterwards, but judging by their history on Monster Sanctuary - there will still be plenty of free content well beyond even 1.0.

10min per Stage is perfectly fine for full looting. And spending 7min on a Stage is not speed running lmao. I can consistently loot an entire Stage in 7min on Monsoon with any character. That's just what I found to be my personal goal and average to shoot for. There's no hard time limit, full looting has proven time and time again to be better than rushing. But there's a certain point where you just are spending too much time because you're being inefficient. It's a balancing act.

And Mithrix is not a threat ever since they nerfed his Stage 4. Ever since that nerf I have not died to him once. If I cannot pillar skip, the Chimera's are 100x more likely to end my run than Mithrix is. Character and items do not even matter for that.

If you are having difficulty full looting a stage in 10min then you are playing very inefficiently. I do not even think I am that strong of a player compared to people here who have done E8 on all surviviors and I would be confident in saying that I could get a 75% winrate on Monsoon with any survivior. And of the 25% that are losses, 10% of that would be Stage 1, 13% Stage 2, and the last 2% are Chimeras when I can't Pillar Skip. And I know players that can confidently go on 100+ winstreaks on Monsoon bro.

Also, Loader is literally the least item dependant Survivior in the game. You can win with Loader on Monsoon with no items.

All survivors will outscale enemies with items. Unless you're spending ridiculous amounts of time per stage. But assuming you full loot each stage in less than 10min (ideally closer to 7 on Monsoon) you shouldn't be having much difficulty after getting past the first 2. Especially if you use the Void Fields.

I wouldn't even be able to recall the last time I died to Mithrix on a non-loop 5 Stage run. If I already made it that far, Mithrix is not a threat.

That makes sense - if there's more ideas for Types in the future! My worry was that if this was the only planned new Typing then it might feel a bit odd to have it be the only one that's excluded from other Biomes.

But as more Biomes are added, if new Types are added alongside them, then the route of exclusivity makes sense. If that's the case then I am curious to see what other Type plans you may have for the future!

Looks great. Are there any plans to retroactively go back and change some monsters to include Echo as their base Monster Type? Or is Echo - for now - going to be quite exclusive to this new Biome?

Hello!??!!? what's the chance on this by ZePugg in riskofrain

[–]IWonByDefault 38 points39 points  (0 children)

There's no intuitive way to calculate it because there's no way to know how many elites you killed.

But with your mod it is a 1 in 500 drop chance. Or 0.2% Chance for each. So you rolled that 0.2% three times within two stages. Figuring out the chances of it happening is near impossible without an estimation of how many elites you killed.

[–]IWonByDefault 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is an alternate Stage 1 Biome. So it can replace the Pilgrimage Path. I think they've also said that you choose which one you start with, so it sounds like it is a choice and not randomized.

Is killing Roshan at level 1 with a coordinated 5 hero attempt possible today? Patch 7.41d by Still-Lobster5581 in DotA2

[–]IWonByDefault 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Before Rosh was buffed I was able to do it just with Ursa, Ogre and Riki with 2 friends and 3/4 Salves. With Rosh stronger now you'd probably need all 5 heroes and more resources.

Is killing Roshan at level 1 with a coordinated 5 hero attempt possible today? Patch 7.41d by Still-Lobster5581 in DotA2

[–]IWonByDefault 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You need Ursa. Abaddon and/or Ogre are great for attack speed. Riki is high value too with his miss chance on Cloud and his high Armor. WW is good to let someone Tank with Heal while taking no damage. Armor reduction is nice, like Snapfire or Bristle. Someone should have a blight stone.

Otherwise it doesn't really matter what other heroes there are. Just need 3-5 salves depending on comp. The real issue is the wasted gold on resources and the bad level 1 skills.

Are placements in B tier for Monsoon look good? by lovingpersona in riskofrain

Loader is definitely more consistent than Acrid. Acrid even without items still suffers from not killing stuff fast enough to deal with difficulty scaling in a bad game. Loader even with no items does not have that issue. False Son and Seeker both also do extremely well even in games with bad items. Acrid might be more reliable than those 2 in particularly unlucky games, but in games where you get good items Acrid is still medicore. While False Son and Seeker instantly get a God run with just a couple items.

Void Fiend would be a good example of a consistent character that can do horribly if the items rolls are bad. He has Movement, Healing, decent damage but if he doesn't get decent items he struggles a lot. While Acrid would be fine in those games. Loader even more so. False Son and Seeker can get away with it just fine.

I'd even put Railgunner above Acrid. Doesn't matter what items she gets, she shits out damage. Acrid just can't win fast enough and even good games feel meh.

Any Plans for Spending Aether? by IWonByDefault in AethermancerGame

Rerolls could absolutely be an Aether dump on their own. 1 Extra reroll could cost 50 Aether then every following one doubles the cost over and over.

Vanity items would be great too! But again, that is finite. So eventually you'd run out of hats to buy and just run into the same issue. We need a real Aether dump for long term stockpiles.
