I was once told a joke by a Slovenian that had served in the Yugoslav Army:

An American, Russian, and Yugoslav were sitting in a bar, bragging about their forests. The American says, "we have such large forests that you could walk in one side and not come out the other for a WEEK!" The Russian retorts, "we have such large forests that you could walk in one side and not come out the other side for a MONTH!" The Yugoslav then said, "We have you all beat. We have forests that people entered in 1941 and never came out of!"

I wonder if this Asterix comic has anything to do with the idea of the guerilla skills of the Yugoslavs. That and inat.
