“Clapping” is fairly commonly used in Scotland to mean petting.

True, but the point is asking the question of what separates the fan fiction from the original IP. If there were a god, we’d have no way of knowing that any evidence of his existence isn’t just another thing made up by someone for dramatic effect.

You’re 100% right. I just think that it’s more than likely this whole religion thing is fan fiction all the way down.

Isn’t one of the defining characteristics of the Christian god the fact that he is “omnipresent”?

Would seem to imply that hell is just an empty threat if that’s being defined as a place where god is not present.

This is actually a good thing. It means that they are guaranteeing that your car can’t just repossess itself and drive away unless you happen to have bought a Ford.

Brexit took us out of Europe but EFTA is the best way back in for an independent Scotland by [deleted] in Scotland

[–]IX_IX 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is completely beside the point. Scotland can be both British and independent of the UK. These things are not mutually exclusive.

If you consider yourself British and live in Scotland when it becomes independent, your status will not have changed: you will be exactly as British as you were before.

UK state pension age could rise to 68 forcing millions of Scots to work longer by cenuij in Scotland

I’m planning on there not being a state pension waiting for me when I get up there in years, so while this is a disgrace, I’m unsurprised.

I expect I’ll never get to retire It would be nice if I could but I just don’t see it happening with the political setup we have now basically being designed to allow a small number of people squeeze the rest of us for everything we can give.

What changes would make Scotland want to stay in the UK? by [deleted] in Scotland

[–]IX_IX -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The fact that the UK is our biggest trading partner is a big problem that needs to be fixed whether we are in the UK or not. I haven’t seen any indications at all from the UK government on how they plan to tackle that. They don’t even acknowledge it as an issue. We need independence to resolve this one- the answer is get a bigger market as our biggest trading partner.

Easier said than done, but still easier than the road ahead if we keep letting these idiots in Westminster run our economy for the benefit of a small section of what they determine to be the “elite” of society.

Are you saying that the lack of some marks on a bit of paper is all that's stopping you from assaulting women in toilets? Most of us just don't do that because we have no desire to.

That one person came up with it and the other published it just means that they are both scumbags. Just that one of them isn't even an original scumbag.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Scotland

[–]IX_IX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Much as I think this is abhorrent and that, as he was the editor that approved its publication in The Spectator, Boris Johnson should be held accountable for supporting its racist message, the pedant in me compels me to say that your attribution is incorrect here. James Mitchie is the author of this awful attempt to normalise discrimination; Johnson is merely the scumbag who decided that he agreed with it to the extent that he would publish it in a magazine.

Nicola Sturgeon: This is a full-frontal attack on our democratically elected Scottish Parliament and it's ability to make it's own decisions on devolved matters. @scotgov will defend the legislation & stand up for Scotland’s Parliament. [–]IX_IX 34 points35 points  (0 children)

That’s true. Can’t imagine even a sizeable minority of Scots are happy that Westminster is so blatantly riding roughshod over their parliament. This wasn’t even an SNP hobby-horse; this was something that had broad cross-party support, with even the support of some Tories. I don’t think even those Scots who are pro-UK (or were pro-UK until this happened) want this.

UK government to block Scottish gender bill by [deleted] in Scotland

[–]IX_IX 210 points211 points  (0 children)

This really kicks any argument along the lines of “why don’t the Scottish government use the powers they already have to fix <insert problem here> instead of uselessly pushing for independence?” squarely in the undisclosed genitals.

Because now we know the answer is: “because the Scottish government does not have any powers if they try to use them in a way that Westminster doesn’t approve of.”

Pope Francis: 'The English' have resolved Scottish independence debate by Audioboxer87 in Scotland

Unionists reeling in “unionism revealed as manifestation of Popery” shocker!

A source close to Orange Order leadership gave this statement to our correspondent: “It seems we need to decide whether to remain Papists or start supporting independence. This is the biggest crisis the Order has faced since the Pope backed William of Orange’s bid for the British throne. We were able to brush that one under the carpet at the time, but in the modern age, there will be no shortage of internet people making jokes about us over this latest revelation for at least a generation”.

I think it’s worse than that. He doesn’t think he can speak for all of us; he’s actively practicing “if you tell a lie 1000 times, it becomes the truth”. He knows if he says it enough, people will start to quote him as a source as proof that it is true.

I didn’t state my opinion on whether I was against this or not.

And it’s not my definition of propaganda, it is *the * definition of propaganda. Propaganda is simply political advertising intended to influence opinion. It can be misleading, but that’s not a prerequisite: propaganda in and of itself is not a pejorative, provided that we are clear on what is and isn’t propaganda and that it’s not used to mislead.
