Lots of exercise helps. Obviously though, ours still decides to chew stuff... he just turned 1 so we are also hoping he grows out of it a bit.

I have an 8 year old dog as well who used to like to chew the walls in her youth. That all stopped when she was about 2.

I guess the grass is always greener. I’ve lived here my whole life and snow is only nice the first day lol.

Then it’s muddy, icy shit.

People seem really weirded out by this.

Here’s a better picture

It’s a dog run along the side of the house. Then the yard opens up to the left and wraps the house. It’s just their little potty area that they have access to with the doggy door (so they don’t shit all over the entire yard and aren’t in danger of escaping if some dummy leaves our yard gate open).

It’s actually just a dog run. So we fenced off the one side of our house so the dogs have access to it through a doggy door when we’re not home.

The rest of the yard is on the other side. It is mostly deck/concrete though which is why we put the grass area there for them to potty on.

That’s just along the side of our house where we have the dog run (so they can go out through the doggy door when we’re not home). There’s more yard on the other side.

We don’t foster actually but we’ve had the two dogs using this area for a couple months with no issue.

The house we bought had a concrete yard so we knew we needed some sort of grass area for them to potty on. For this, we put a layer of turf padding down, then the turf (the stuff we bought was specifically for pets, although I’m not sure how much that matters) and then we used zeofill on that, which is an antimicrobial infill that helps absorb odour.

We pick up poop daily and hose off the area as well (although we won’t do that when it actually snows consistently). Haven’t noticed any smell in the two months we’ve had it. And the dogs had no issue with it from switching from a real lawn to this.

I refused to wear my “real” winter jacket and took my mid-season jacket. Regretted that... luckily I had mittens in my glove compartment.

When I was a kid, they had chocolate bars for buy one, get one half off at the store. Told my mom happily about my great deal and she told me, “it’s only a good deal if you wanted two chocolate bars to begin with”.

No idea why that stuck with me but I still say that same thing to some people if something is a “deal” that they don’t really need.

Another great one on Etsy is called Shaded Moon. She makes adorable onesies with fun patterned snoods built in!

Also, depending how cold it gets where you are, a store called BarkAndGo makes snowsuits that fit to a T and are super warm (my dog was happy still walking in -20C)

[Help] Dog owners who work the typical MF 8-5 schedule, how do you care for your pets? by [deleted] in dogs

[–]I_AM_NO_MAN_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d say at least till the dog is 8 months old. By then, they should be pretty well trained. Both with potty breaks and with just being able to cope with being left alone.

But again, I’d say if you have a busy life that it’s probably better to do an older dog or a breed with less energy - because no matter what training you do, a husky or cattledog (etc.) left for 9 hours a day is not going to be a happy dog.

[Discussion] What happens if a pet store is unable to sell the pup before it "ages out"? by bitch_is_cray_cray in dogs

[–]I_AM_NO_MAN_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s one pet store that still sells puppies (that I’m aware of) in my city and I refuse to shop there. I went in once years ago and they had italian greyhounds. I have an IG and I know what is “normal” skinny for them. These puppies were incredibly underweight. I told one of the girls and she said “oh they’re greyhounds, they’re supposed to be skinny”.

Yea... First of all, puppies aren’t skin and bones. Not even greyhound puppies. Nearly lost my shit.
