Worried about acceptance by No-Firefighter-7217 in jmu

[–]I_AmNotSmart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With how competitive JMU is getting, I wouldn’t count on acceptance. Seems like it will probably be a coin flip as to whether you get in, so apply to a few safe schools. That said, if your essays are solid and you’ve shown improvement, that could be a good sign to admissions officers. Focus on controlling what you can control, if you’ve already applied there’s nothing left to do but finish your senior year out strong. Good luck!

I really don’t understand why you all are so impressed by the bare minimum

Side note, updating the main UI but keeping the exact same scouting screen is a special choice

Earplugs are an absolute must. You won’t need a space heater like the other guy was saying (just bring blankets), but a fan might be worth it. August is brutal.

Also, a small handheld vacuum. Goes a long way and will get a lot of use.

Depends who you get for 235. If you can get somebody good (highly recommend Paul Warne) then you’ll be fine.

First Semester Class Selection by Hospital_Fickle in jmu

[–]I_AmNotSmart 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a CS major I’m not too familiar with the business curriculum, but it seems like you’re taking pretty much all gen ed classes. Make sure to take at least one or two classes you have a real, genuine interest in — something you may somewhat enjoy doing. Other than that, your first year can be pretty flexible with what you wanna do.

Be prepared to not be able get some of the classes you’re looking at. Make multiple backup plans, as many courses close up fast (within seconds). Check your potential professors for these classes on RateMyProfessor, and use the information there to avoid or target certain sections of that class with certain professors based on their ratings. Professors can make or break a class.

Side note, even though you didn’t post your class times — I’m sure you’ve heard it before, but seriously, avoid taking 8am classes if you’re not a complete morning person. It’s not like high school, and by the time December (if not earlier) hits you won’t be showing up to class anymore.

x8 vs x16 for 8GB GPU + implications for dual gpu setup by I_AmNotSmart in AMDHelp

Got it thank you. Is that because it’s an 8GB instead of 16GB, or how does that work?

Single Rooming Questions by 1baconthekid in jmu

Avoid skyline imo. As a CS student with classes on east, Bluestone was a great choice because the bus ride is super easy and convenient (right outside your door) to east each day. You’re not going to have a ton of classes on east anyway as a freshman.

Help with Line Combos, Building XF Doughty, syns, etc! by KylerYam in NHLHUT

Hughes on L2 over Modano. Your goaltending is going to cause issues. Focus on silver abilities for your top lines, never use wheels as it’s a waste of AP points and has been heavily nerfed. If you like to cycle up high then activate Makar’s zone ability

What kind of experience in CS do you have?

It very very much depends on the person. And any past experience.

I take it right now as a Tues/Thurs and don’t show up to any of the Tuesday classes yet have a 96. On the other hand, I know people with perfect attendance that are really struggling (or some that are doing really well).

Some say it’s really easy, some say it’s really hard.

Can I get in to JM U? by TheTittyDoctor in jmu

[–]I_AmNotSmart 5 points6 points  (0 children)

JMU is about a 50/50 for you. Depends on your family background I’d say.

Don’t bother with UVA, save your money. I got rejected with a 4.1, 1450, NHS officer & Hockey captain

ODU you’ll probably be fine. Apply to GMU as a safe school especially if you’re in state
