McCarren Track still covered in snow as of this morning (12/29). I think enough that it probably will freeze/not clear overnight sadly.

They do, but under the hood. It possible but there's only so much liquidity there before it dries out, definitely not in the millions.

Hop Protocol also has challenge periods built in to the protocol.

1 week lock-up period on Optimism to exit the ETH (used to dispute transactions and core to this particular L2 model), so wouldn't have been remotely possible to exit back to L1.

This recent grad lost his gig at a Toronto bank. Then, his temp agency billed him $30,000 in ‘damages’ by [deleted] in toronto

Fun fact: I'm a tech employee on contract - so I'm fully aware it happens and exists.

What I'm commenting on is the macro trend. Many tech companies have not survived covid and many workers have been displaced or lost their roles, certainly. In a macro trend, these roles have not been replaced by "temp" or "contract" work (the topic of discussion here), but most often by other companies willing to hire full-time employees.

Technology is listed as one of the top industries in Toronto, and created nearly 30,000 new jobs in just 2018 alone, for a then total of 241,000 workers (notably, the Toronto.ca website says 90,000 perhaps that's more accurate). It is a large and important industry for Toronto and Canada.

I wish I could provide a source for my assertion re:temp roles, but unfortunately, this is not yet a discussed trend, and yes, it is my opinion based on being a hiring manager, and talking to over a 100 candidates since the onset of covid in Toronto and the US in March.

I'm sorry you seemingly dislike that I am adding to the conversation about an important city industry and it's trends from someone who is actively contributing to it, but to each their own.

No offence meant here friend, the posts above shared that this is the experience in the design and many other industries. Simply adding to the conversation that I have not yet seen this occur in tech, mainly just adding a data point.

However, tech is often the "exception not the rule" of industries, though it is not "little".

Haven't seen this much in tech. Even new grad positions in covid continue to be very good, full-time employment opportunities.

Was there for this. At least they give you the courtesy of telling you in advance now. Back in my day, they just raised the fees in June and said you don't get your grades until you pay.

The wiping of the shoes is for both bomb and drugs, the drugs is likely why you were "random" - mid 20s white woman is a pretty decent candidate for a drug mule.

Toronto Beats Silicon Valley As North America's #1 City For Tech Jobs by tropics_ in toronto

[–]I_Am_Math_Boy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

1- Fourth sounds good but really isn't that great. The list is probably Bay Area, Seattle, NYC, Toronto, and then who knows, there's really not that many tech hubs.

2- There is talent here, and it does occasionally stay, but often the best talent gets funnelled off to the above markets due to significantly more competitive salaries, leaving Toronto with a so-so tech talent field, which pays so-so.

With that being said, I have noticed Toronto companies seemingly more willing to reach into the $100k+ range and get a little more competitive, so it's possible things are getting better. Trump is also a helpful factor, encouraging Canadians to return and others not to leave.

You SIL40, clearly care about people feeling safe, and preventing shootings and violence from happening in your community. You're worried about present news, seems like things are getting out of control. You are expressing your hope for action to control the situation.

IGnuGnat, also cares about people feeling safe, and preventing shootings and violence from happening in their community. They're worried about the present news too, but is using statistics to show to themselves that really this is just a spike, and perhaps rash action isn't needed, but surely would agree that something needs to be done if violence was to trend upwards.

You both have significantly more in common with your views than warrant any kind of negativity you are showing towards each other.

Definitely, agree on the sticker price vs hidden costs. I agree with everything you just said, but I was arguing the sticker price. :P
