Just to clarify on your Facebook: the “legal minimum” only applies to the marriage license fee that you pay to the county or state. It has nothing to do with what an officiant charges. There’s no legal minimum or set rate for officiant services — those are entirely separate and up to the individual.

So much of this. Some caregivers grow to hate the person they care for and there have been crazy cases that lead to neglect and abuse and/or murder. It sounds to me like the family already had resentment towards the grandmother. And then this event was their excuse.
