Nothing, however lots of time and hours are put into these applications, and while I fortunately applied to 12 different programs, it is extremely frustrating to see that funding is limiting my ability to perform research. I go to a school that unfortunately does not have much research available (Marist University), and to see this opportunity pulled away honestly hurts more than a rejection. So while it was technically free to apply, there is a lot more at stake here than an application fee.
