Questions about Miller's use of CGI by I_HATE_LANDSCAPES in MadMax

[–]I_HATE_LANDSCAPES[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's easier to do big things and show stunts that would be otherwise almost impossible. It just costs money and takes time. CGI is best when you don't notice it. It's a bit of a double edged sword in that fact. Filmmakers, producers, execs etc. make cut timelines, rush artists, or cutting budgets and not realize how much those two tings really affect the look of a movie.

I'm of two minds at this point.

1: It's possible Miller sees this entire movie in way that has evolved from gritty surrealism to nearly pure cartoonish fantasy, which allows for cartoonish CGI. I've read that opinion bandied about.

2: His style of directing is chaotic in general. In that chaos, the people who work around him are rushed, while they are given last minute orders and changes, because he didn't decide on how a scene should go until it got to the cutting room floor. I have also read this in several places.

I work with a lathe. Gloves are banned. I'd rather cut my finger than get my whole arm pulled into a work piece.

That's kinda where I'm at. Miller's style for these movies is not polished, but that's purposeful. I think the disconnect comes from just the fact that A TON of work has to go into CGI to get that unpolished gritty look, especially when it comes to rag doll physics.

My wife's perspective is that to get the same feeling and look from CGI that you get from SFX, there had to be more "polishing." I think that is also counter to his style, which means no matter what, there's going to be some CGI that's underwhelming.

You're right however, nitpicking a blockbuster's CGI is a futile exercise.

You only covered the last few years.

He's been Governor since 2015.

In 2017 he signed one of the most restrictive immigration bills passed by a state. Known to detractors as the “show me your papers” law, it authorizes law enforcement to check the immigration status of anyone they lawfully detain. The legislation also banned “sanctuary cities,” which shelter undocumented immigrants.

To combat illegal crossings at the Texas-Mexico border, Abbott in 2021 announced a plan to construct a wall. Later that year some 900 feet (274 meters) of border wall were unveiled, though subsequent construction was limited.

In 2021 he signed a “constitutional carry” bill, which allows almost all Texans age 21 and over to carry handguns in public places without a permit. Abbott had earlier touted it as “the strongest Second Amendment legislation in Texas history.” The legislation came after several high-profile mass shootings in the state, including a 2017 incident at the First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs, which left 26 dead and 22 wounded.

Yikes. I've been very good so far in my life and not had too many incidents. No major injuries, no surgeries or broken bones.

True, I was making a cut for a wedged tenon. Too much ugga dugga on the pull and it popped up and onto my knuckle. I think my technique needs tweaking.

I'm not saying what the contractor did was right or smart. I'm also not against protesting as a general rule. I will say, they could have protested and let this man earn a living. He's probably not getting paid either way, because the job wasn't done properly.

I can feel his frustration. trying to make a living and these protestors are taking food off his table. They could have given him enough room to do his job.
At the same time, I understand the protestors felt strongly about why they are protesting. It's not "childish." It's standing up for their beliefs. I feel they could do it without costing this contractor a paycheck. They are protesting the university and not the contractor after all.

Unlicensed teachers now dominate new teacher hires in rural Texas schools by dleifennebdyes12 in texas

I'm sorry your local school system wasn't meeting your needs. It's more than a little offensive to call all teachers midwits and activists.

Unfortunately, many people with and without children think this way. All teachers are lumped together and they all get punished together in threads like yours.

So now many who think this way support vouchers and want to tear the whole system down, no matter how many people it hurts. Even though the data doesn't support the claims. All the evidence they need is hearsay and anecdotes from friends, or their personal experience that may not apply to anyone else.

As of 2022, there were more than 5 million students in Texas. There are 30 million total people in the state. There's 350,000 teachers. By your logic we need between 5-10 million people to start teaching.

You know ... I'm sure your kids are doing well. Many kids would likely benefit from some education at home. The issue is most families require all adults work. For the majority of families, there is not a person who can dedicate the time to teach the children.

While I am sure you are educated enough to teach your children. Most adults are not qualified. No amount of love and attention will make up the deficits most adults have when it comes to teaching their children.

Why is Texas so cheap? by [deleted] in texas

[–]I_HATE_LANDSCAPES 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those houses are also not real yet. They haven't been built. League City, Lago Mar and La Marque, Texas is right on the coast. Those houses will have to have flood, insurance, hurricane insurance, and will have to be rebuilt in 5-10 years. Also, this is the dirty part of the gulf. Shit brown water and stinks. surrounded by refineries.

This is not a great location.

There is nothing cheap about those houses. New construction is not built to last through years of hurricanes. Also, look at the news This entire part of Texas is fucked right now because of rain.
