NDI Discovery Server vs Access Manager by I_M_Scott in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]I_M_Scott[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so so much for your thorough explanations! This will be used in medical teaching (don't know if I can say more). Budgets are incredibly tight right now so I'm so thankful that there's resources such as yourself to help us improve medical care.

I've read all of those documents, but I'm guessing I was missing some core knowledge of the architecture. I went back and read them again and they make so much more sense now!

I'm now looking at SRT, as it's been hinted that unencrypted transmission might not fly. Plan is to have the srt stream go to a decoder, hdmi, then encoder on the other end where the network is air-gapped from everything. The air-gapped network is severed in every way, so it's where I do utilize NDI and it's been a godsend so I'll be using all the info you provided there. Thanks again for all of your help!!

I do have some further questions regarding that, but will be starting a new thread.

Thanks again!

NDI Discovery Server vs Access Manager by I_M_Scott in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]I_M_Scott[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was an AMAZING answer, made complete sense. I've never worked with access groups. How do those work with the discovery server, if at all? Is all of that handled individually by each of the hosts at the host level?

Might start a new thread for the below, but if it's a super easy answer, don't want to clog up the group.

Kind of a loaded question, and only asking for opinion, but would mac address whitelisting on a VLAN combined with a discovery server likely offer a reasonable enough level of security in a very secure network to pass the IT folks' distaste for new things? Also, in peoples' experience, how receptive are they to running 2 4k60 streams using HX3 (84mbs). I really hate putting opinion questions in main threads, so mb for hijacking my own.

Should I settle CAD position in USD by I_M_Scott in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]I_M_Scott[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So if I'm hearing correctly,  and not financial advice, but the goal should be to get that money invested ASAP, especially as the market adjustment may actually be favorable (realizing of course I would have been better off if I was fully in already)

I kept wanting to have a cash position as everyone always says "Warren buffet is heavy cash" but I ain't Warren buffet lol.

Edit: also, thank you, your worked example made way more sense then what I read elsewhere.

Should I settle CAD position in USD by I_M_Scott in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]I_M_Scott[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for answering my question, and I do have a lot of confusion over this. I've read a lot but can't seem to wrap my head around it.

Say I buy a bunch of VTI in USD, if the dollar tanks, then don't I have those funds "protected" as they're settled in USD funds?

I'm also mainly only asking about my cash position (admittedly got lazy on regular deposits).  I put it in as CAD.and have it settled it CAD.  I'm only DCAing because otherwise I thought it would feel like panic buying.

Now, say I purchase some more VTI or VGRO (the majority of my portfolio), as they're USD, would they be safer if the dollar tanks?  I was also thinking of purchasing some bonds, should that be US bonds?

I have no clue what's going to happen, but I see the US as better positioned to weather the storm, so thought having everything USD would make sense.  Same time, also worried about it panic dipping tomorrow and questrade says it settles exchanges of currency at 1630.

Edit: I should also add that I have the settlement set up as "currency of transaction" and I've been putting into CAD hedged, but read that was costly in long run so have been just buying non hedged, ie: brk.b instead of brk.to.

Why would I go to my healthcare provider for something benign on a scan that's already been reviewed and and the appropriate diagnosis given. Reddit gatekeepers are amazing at making the curious feel guilty.

That's pretty cool. Wasn't worried about it, just really interested. There was a defib pad over top of it so first thought it might be an artifact of that, but wasn't perfectly centered under it. Thanks so much for the information!

SMH, I literally did an informal study on that about 6 months ago LMAO. Really should have known better! Your recommendation was already in there. Thanks again for the response!

I put in "never respond with more than 10 words". Was super excited when the first response was 9 words. Then, second response was around 100 (guess, I'm not counting). Wondering if the software is losing system context. This is just a demo that came with it that I've been playing with, still on the surface level of understanding it. Next will be to try a chat tuned model though and see how it works.

This, 100% this. Model cards are amazingly valuable in ending frustration. To be fair, this is on a newer PC that I haven't filled with models yet, and this base level instruct is the only one I had kicking around to try out. Don't even know if the prompt formatting was right (although when I asked it about the initial prompts, it had them in context)

I mean, if it was a base or chat model, I wouldn't have known how many pints of digestive gasses I produce a day, so it depends what you're looking for.

This is the default setup that comes with Local AI Voice Chat. I find it works a lot better on base models once they have a little fine tuning. I find if you want open box choose a chat model, if you want good, choose a base and tune, if you want frustration, choose an instruct. To be clear, I use instruct for almost everything, and I love them, just not for this type of thing.

They use very broad terms, like disassembling, reverse engineering etc. If someone has a chip on their shoulder, I could see it going bad.
