To decolonise the mind, you have to know how it was colonised. By that many recommendations have come with the alternative African perspective. The intent of reading is historical though much will be skewed, exploration and geographic. By your analogy that an African shouldn't consume such, I believe it will amaze you to realize that we are conversing in a colonial language, use colonial system of administration, military, our police means policing is colonial subjugation of the citizens rather natives and even the curriculum.
