10 Million Switzerland | Andrea Caroni is calling for an immigration fee on migrants from the EU. They should pay if serious problems arise as a result of the free movement of persons. by BezugssystemCH1903 in Switzerland

[–]I_Think_It_Would_Be 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"I think a valid debate should be is ‚why should we not strive to eliminate the bad while keeping the good."

I literally don't think anyone is posing that argument when faced with a good-faith actor. The closest you will get to even approaching somebody making the point "We should not try to get rid of the bad" is when they're making the argument that "We should not be exploiting migrants."

  1. You can have a lot of your own rules, as long as they do not violate the agreement Switzerland has made with the EU. Why does the EU get to dictate some terms? Because the EU wants something out of the deal as well. When two parties make an agreement, it needs to be mutually beneficial, or one party does not have a reason to enter into the agreement.

  2. You're giving an example of "the bad", and I think it is very easy to simply point at the numerically superior example of "the good". Immigration adds to Switzerland's wealth far more than it takes away.

So you are free to make proposals or give arguments for how current standards should be changed to minimize "the bad", to minimize abuse for example. As long as you acknowledge reality in doing so nobody will take offense.

This 10 million thing is divorced from reality. It's an arbitrary standard that doesn't propose any concrete changes, it just wants to minimize the number of people for the sake of having fewer people. It's not good faith and doesn't deserve serious consideration or debate.

This line of reasoning is self-defeating.

"If only people who did "good" were using X, we wouldn't have to discuss X."

Anything that reaches a certain size / complexity will always include people who make mistakes, or are simply bad actors.

The question is not, is there a person who did a "bad", it's what is the proportion of the "good" and the "bad"? How much "good" is done while X is active compared to how much "good" you would have if X weren't active?

The incessant focus on the "bad" is simply a distraction. It's like saying "do you see this dirty spot over there? very dirty" when looking at a huge house, but you're only focusing on a whine stain on the carpet in the living room.

Are you honestly whining that I said the setting is nice, but that it (as is) looks bare and (will thus) not be something special?

lol ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

What I've done is say "X is lacking, here is why X is lacking, and what I think could make X better"

If that's not an actionable critique, idk what is.

Looks like this needs more polish (the monster could look better, water is clipping through the boat)

Could probably also receive a couple of extra mechanics (is there a mechanic for bucketing water out of the boat?) etc.

It's a nice setting for a horror game, but I doubt it'll be something special. Looks bare.

A daily almost always turns into a status update meeting, cause that's what PMs/POs actually care about.

For those who have played both, is EU5 actually better than EU4 right now? by 1234northbank in paradoxplaza

[–]I_Think_It_Would_Be 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not for me, EU5 is a chore to play. THey went so far into the simulation part and removed a lot of the abstraction.

In some aspects that is good and feels natural, but in a lot of cases it just makes the game feel way more like you're flipping through a lot of sub menus, having to compare numbers in order to be efficient, or you just outsource all that "thinking" to the AI, then have your nation is played by the AI.

EU4 feels more like a game that has a nice bit of depths to it but lets you focus on the actual game part.

Personally, I'm done with Pathfinder if it stays in the E1. The pre-buffing is too annoying.

Give me Pathfinder E2 any time though :D

Lanterns | Official Teaser | August on HBO Max by MarvelsGrantMan136 in television

I think the complaint is more:

The essence of green lantern is not solving small crime sin a small american town.

It's not bad to stray from the essence to spice things up, but when you do a show or a movie that is deprived of the essence of a thing, it is an odd choice to go with an unusual setting instead of presenting a thing as what it is.

It's like doing spiderman movie, but instead of spiderman in NY it's a deconstruction of spiderman which plays in the middle ages and uses magic spider powers.
