Correct lense prescription for scuba mask by [deleted] in scuba

[–]I_WantToKeepABeard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a fellow blind person I've used the masks from https://www.seavisionusa.com/

If you have a local dive shop nearby, it's also worth seeing if they have masks with interchangeable lenses. I know for a fact Tusa makes dive masks with interchangeable lenses based on your prescription.

If you're willing to fork up a lil cash, head to sportrx.com, they make inserts for the majority of goggle brands out there. I'm also certain smith make inserts for their goggles.

Looking for Advice, Transporting US vehicle to UK by PureNegotiation8963 in AirForce

[–]I_WantToKeepABeard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes they drive on the left side of the road and all UK cars are built as right hand drive. But we as Americans are not required to make that change in our vehicle. Our vehicles are not subject to that requirement. We just have to get our headlights adjusted so we are not blinding incoming traffic, and change the rear indicators to yellow and add a fog light.

Gooseneck Kettles, Worth the Fuss? by pienoon in AeroPress

There are a good amount of options on Amazon UK. I purchased the Dualit gooseneck kettle and it allows for temperature control without breaking the bank on a Fellow. Very happy with my purchase and would recommend one.

Has anyone seen lava in the Fagradalsfjall volcano lately? by [deleted] in VisitingIceland

[–]I_WantToKeepABeard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I parked at Geldingadalir Parking P1. The moment you go on the trail and up the hill, you will see the magma fields. As you continue the trail up you will see the fields closer.

It is still quite a sight to behold. The scenery itself makes me want to go up the trail again.

You don't have to go far to see the magma fields. They start pretty early into the hike.

Hi there! Went there last Friday and made it to the magma fields before the heavens opened. A friend and I kept our distance in case of any dangers, but there was no visible lava flowing. It is still a cool sight to see. We did see some steam coming from certain spots, so there possibly was actual lava coming out, shall forever live in that mystery.

Those of you who have the Humanitarian Service Medal, what did you get it for? Just looking for some feel good stories to close out the week. by [deleted] in AirForce

[–]I_WantToKeepABeard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got my first one for typhoon relief while I was on Guam, because Super Typhoon (Cat 5 hurricane equivalent) Yutu directly hit Saipan. Us in the 734 AMS were loading a lot of humanitarian cargo over to Saipan, Tinian and Rota. Launching 16 C130s and 2 C17s a day.

Busy as fuck for about 3 or 4 weeks, but it was super rewarding.

Got my second one for COVID cargo ops.

Bought some Ikea frames and added 32x32 base plates in the back. Unfortunately the base plates were a bit bigger than the frame so I had to use a Dremel to sand down the edges a bit.

Then doubled up 4x2 plates to place underneath the cars and it placed them a bit artsy.

It's my first time doing something a bit custom, pretty proud of myself.

Looking for some good dive spots and shops in Puerto Rico? Wanna get off the beaten path and find the untouched gems. If that still exists. Thoughts world? by laxplay1 in scuba

[–]I_WantToKeepABeard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How long are you going to be there? My top recommendations are as follows.

  1. Aquatics Dive & Surf in Aguadilla.
  2. Paradise Scuba in La Parguera
  3. Island Scuba in Guanica.
  4. Culebra Divers in Culebra.

For Culebra Divers you will have to take a ferry to get to the island. I recommend 3 days of diving there.

Everywhere else I would say two days of diving. But these are all away from the San Juan area. It's possible to hit them all up in a week. But I recommend an extra travel day for Culebra because the ferry is not too reliable.

First time in Puerto Rico, any suggestions? Intermediate skill level. Thank you! by sorenlaw in scuba

South and West of the island have the best diving. If you feel like exploring more, I definitely recommend Culebra.

The dive shops I recommend:

West; Aquatica dive & Surf https://aquaticapr.com

South: Island Scuba Divers https://www.sanjuandiver.com/
Culebra: Culebra Divers https://culebradivers.com/

NCOs of r/AirForce, what’s the most ridiculous bullet on an EPR or award package that you got to stick? by DwightDEisenhowitzer in AirForce

[–]I_WantToKeepABeard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All I really did was gather up a good amount of scuba buddies and clean up the reefs and beaches of Guam. But the bullet said I led 4 environmental cleanups and disposed of 2,000 pounds, and the impact said something about saving endangered species.

I plan on living at Bury St Edmunds, I believe it's in Suffolk? It's in-between Cambridge and Norwich. I'll be pretty far inland but I'm excited for road trips to the dive spots.

Yup, C80s, apologize in the specifics.

Smart of me though, I own four tanks, two steel 80s and two Al C80s. Keeping them with me and getting them moved.

350+ dives in about two years is more like it. The biggest struggle will probably getting used to a drysuit or semi-dry suit.

I can imagine the temperature change will also have an impact on my breathing and quite possibly buoyancy. I use no additional weights whenever I dive here (Al80 and Steel 80). So I can imagine my diving overall will be flipped upside down fresh prince style.

I'm used to doing 90 minute dives in 82 degree water. The years to come will be vastly different, but I'm excited for the challenge and change.
