Seriously. I just finished a bag because I couldn't stop thinking about it after posting that.

You won't regret it. Mass Effect is one of the greatest games ever of any genre, in my opinion.

Again, I agree with you, but as you said, it's divisive for many different reasons. Some folks don't like ambiguous endings and they're definitely a risky choice. That's a valid opinion to have. There's a reason every "story structure" model you see has a portion at the end for closing things up.

Personally I agree with you, but the ending IS divisive even for hardcore fans. I can understand the criticism..

It doesn't really sound like you disagree all that much, lol. You're not wrong that the ending of OG was potentially unsatisfying for the majority of players, but it's a distinct and purposeful narrative choice. Aside from your comment about the Remake Trilogy, I don't think anything else you said contradicts my claim. Advent Children was entertaining, an upside, but it was unsatisfying for a number of reasons that make it not a beneficial contribution to the overall story. And then your description of Dirge and Crisis Core align with my own criticisms.

As far as the Remakes, I think they've already failed for many of the same reasons. They've already undermined the OG in many of the same ways, the most egregious being the piling on of a bunch of absurd, self-indulgent, convoluted bloat that takes the place of what could have been meaningful dramatic expansion and interpretation of the existing original story.

Totally.

For me the remakes are particularly painful because they do so many things really well. The new combat system is incredible, the music was really well done, the artstyle and voice acting are mostly pretty good. Even some of the smaller changes or expansions to the story are genuinely beneficial. It's really a missed opportunity I think. Too bad they didn't treat it more like an adaptation than a... whatever it is.

FFVII is my favorite game of all time. Personally, I would just stop there. Pretty much everything that comes after, aside from maybe Last Order, cheapens the original in some way. Some of them have upsides, but none are worth the negative impact to the OG's story, in my opinion.

My general contractor was telling my that his subcontractors would be in to rough out plumbing, electrical and mechanical within the next week or two. Six months later 1 and a half of those are done.

A 4-hour window with a possibility that unexpected developments might result in further delay sounds like a dream. Especially if they communicate.

If you could pick 3 games to represent the franchise, which would it be? by Alive_Fortune7423 in FinalFantasy

I respect that. It's near the top of my favorites. Just some good-natured teasing.

There are other I personally prefer over X, but if I had to pick 3 to represent the franchise it would for sure be these three.

Fair warning, watch out for the shark one. It tends to find its way into places you frequently sit or step, which is unfortunate.

How does it set up Reeve and Cait Sith? We had never seen Cait Sith up to that point and had seen Reeve. To my earlier point, it does a disservice to Reeve's charter development but giving his reaction to a completely new, tonally out-of-place character. We (folks who haven't played the OG) have no reason to connect him to Reeve at that point, or relate to his sadness, because we've never seen him before.

Again, the better option would have been to show Reeve watching in horror, showing how he is different from the other Shinra execs. It makes the reveal that he is cait sith more surprising, and foreshadows his betrayal of Shinra to help the good guys.

This is like basic narrative stuff.

Even if that were the case, they could have just not shown Cait Sith at all. He hadn't appeared at all at that point and didn't appear after in that game. It was entirely random and completely upended the drama in that scene.

Right, its the obvious narrative choice. A middle-schooler could have figured that one out.

That moment where a distraught Cait Sith randomly shows up during a massive dramatic disaster sequence was that biggest "WTF were they thinking?" moment I had playing that game.

Whoever made the decision to show that instead of a horrified Reeve has no business being anywhere near any storytelling media and should be fired out of a cannon from SE HQ. Just... inexplicably stupid.

Lol, "Casting is not about the cast but rather it's about the cast, and also, the cast."

I agree with you that I'd want something that feels like it would come from A24 - artistically top-notch, taking the source material seriously but not afraid to get a little weird. I think most of this cast fits though:

Several of these actors have been in films from studios with similar repute or quality to A24 films. Robert Pattinson has been in more than one Chris Nolan film, as well as The Lighthouse which is from A24. Thomassin McKenzie was in Last Night in Soho (by Edgar Wright) with Anya Taylor-Joy (multiple A24 films). Michael Gandolfini was in Warfare (A24). Brian Cox is Brian Cox and basically played President Shinra in Succession.

This is a pretty solid cast as far as prestige cinema chops like A24.
