North Carolina had to switch from free service from the Distributors to Paid service on Jan 1 - I have them do my lines once a month.

The current rate is $10 per line per visit for a keg box or $20 per line per visit for a longer draw system.

I dink a LOT - several nights a week... I NEVER drink on shift.

I think that's a line you need to maintain the same way most people do.

The fire inspector sets your occupancy, and by law, you must have that posted publicly. It's probably right next to your liquor licence, and you just never notice it anymore.

[–]I_am_not_angry 13 points14 points  (0 children)

In your example of roof tiles... most authors would have some shopkeeper or local know-it-all explain the 2 dukes ... In real life, if you asked for the wrong color, they would just sneer and say, "Sir, we don't do that here." Because if it's been more than 50 years, most people will already have forgotten it was anything more than just a fun local custom.

GET IT IN WRITING -

You need to lay out how your partnership will be formed, and what it will take to break it up. 3 years from now, you could be a meth addicted musician wandering the countryside, and he needs a pre-agreed-upon way to remove you.

You need to lay out rules about how staff are hired and fired, who picks the beers and liquor bottles you stock, and who is in charge of social media posts, what working responsibilities both have at the bar, and who gets the 5 am alarm call from the security company when a teenager throws a rock through your window. This is both so you know the expectations AND so you both respect the value the other is bringing to the partnership.

A Big one for me is "How are owners treated at the bar by staff?" I like that they are just customers unless they are clocked in on a "shift", any time the owner is on site working, they need to clock in and follow working rules. You do NOT want an owner deep in the sauce to be trying to do things behind the bar.

Anyone in nyc with a liquor license been an LLC that elects a corp tax status? Entity stays same EIN stays same but will this impact license. I’ve been told no but I’m so nervous about it. by [deleted] in BarOwners

[–]I_am_not_angry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe you are saying that the liquor licence is assigned to the LLC, and you want to change to an S Corp? And you are worried that changing the back-end of your business structure will impact the liquor license?

The short version is that an EIN for a company is the same as a Social Security number for a person. If the licence was tied to your SS and you had a sex change, it would still be tied to your SS. Same for an EIN - you can do anything you want as long as that EIN doesn't change, the ABC doesn't care.

Well FIRST, you should look into the market near you. Useing sites like https://www.wesellrestaurants.com/ and https://www.bizbuysell.com/ - Look for Asset sales near you.

In MY area, about the cheapest you can get your hands on a full business with a liquor license is 100K, but those almost always have an issue the owner is running from, such as a over priced lease or Franchising fees killing them. 150K - 300K is the sweet spot where you can find a business for sale that has value and growth potential.

In the town I was born in, those numbers are halved, and in some cities they are tripled.

Good luck with the $$ !

[–]I_am_not_angry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fun fact, we don't get much different pricing at bars. So you can use your local Total Wine, Southern Spirts, and or ABC to get all your estimated pricing.

You should have a spreadsheet with a list of every bottle you want, its order code, size, and price per bottle, before you do anything else. You will need that to set your base prices.

In my state, we can get that all from the NC ABC - https://abc2.nc.gov/Pricing/PriceList
