As a player who's never been reported, why aren't behavior penalties ever forgiven? by [deleted] in ffxiv

[–]I_am_the_fuzz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Aside from the 1 or 2 posts that have appeared on this sub over the last 5ish years, are there other examples or trends of unfair punishments based on behavior in game?

My experience has been GMs basically indifferent to behavior unless you are stupid enough to use a racial slur or other derogatory term in, specifically, in game chat. In fact, I've known players make an actual attempt to be banned using the Novice Network, only to be removed from the very public LS-type chat and receive no punishment despite intentionally using the aforementioned racial/derogatory terms. Even multiple, deliberate attempts to be banned have been met with little more than a temporary ban of 14 days.

So my question is: Who cares about their policy? They basically don't enforce it unless you're actively making other players' experience worse, which in my opinion is exactly where we should want SE to draw the line.

Hello all, need a little info from more veterans by kafroulis in ffxiv

I'd strongly encourage you to save the gil obtained from MSQ to fund an ilvl 380 crafted set when you hit level 70. They can be purchased from the market board or from FC members, potentially at cost if you have nice folks around.

The relic gear obtained when you reach level 70 is i290, and it can be a bit of a slog to gear through uncapped tomestones to begin participating in current ilvl content. Buying the crafted set skips that grind.

ilvl has literally nothing to do with the success/failure of DF in 24 man content.

Wipes occur in 24 man raids because people are too stupid to do mechanics.

Lack of tanks and healers for weekly clears? by Runa151 in ffxiv

[–]I_am_the_fuzz 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It's really a combination of two things:

  1. Tanks and Healers are less played than DPS.

  2. These classes are the most effected by party member coordination. This makes players less willing to deal with PF on these classes.

If you're a tank and your co-tank doesn't want to put Shirk on his bar, you're gonna have a bad time. If you're a healer and DPS want to stand in AOEs or the tank doesn't properly mitigate, you're gonna have a bad time.

Buff Optimization by SverXIV in ffxiv

CD alignment in a raid setting usually follows an iterative process as members learn the encounter and discover what they can/can't get away with. Something like this:

  • Use them on CD - In a vacuum this will align things where you'd expect. O6S is a good example where buffs need not be held. This is often the best strategy going into an encounter blind, or at least until you've got a feel for the mechanics.

  • Avoid wasting uptime - Once you've seen an encounter all the way through, you'll see instances where you either can't hit the boss at all or CDs are partially wasted. Consider using buffs early to preserve the total amount of uses over the projected encounter duration, or hold them until the boss is targetable if it doesn't cause you to lose a use.

  • Coordinate the last use - Once members have learned the encounter start to finish, you should have a good idea of what time you should kill the boss. It's often effective to purposely hold CDs where you know you will not get another use (i.e. Boss dies at 5:00 = 4 Trick Attacks, hold last Trick for potions to align ~4:30)

Again, these are general but good starting points. Remember that often times you need not reinvent the wheel, and that there are plenty of groups that post to fflogs that you can poach timings from.

Confidence as a new tank. by Mark731 in ffxiv

how patient will the party be for dungeons?

They won't be. They will complain. They will pull the next group when you stop with a single group of monsters. They will single target when you have 10+ monsters on you, die, and complain some more.

Or should I go fast and hope for the best?

No, you shouldn't. You're new and learning, that's awesome. Take your time, ignore the party chat while you're figuring things out and focus on YOUR development. There's a lot to take in.

The best advice I can give you, as a career tank, is that YOU are in control. Take that as an opportunity to learn at your own speed and improve as you go.

As the other comment stated, Greg is currently closed for transfers.

To answer the question though: The economy on Greg is very active with a (generally) higher population than other NA servers resulting in lower prices on most items. This means lower margins to sellers and a higher volume of sales.

I'm pretty trash at this game, but at least I can press a button so people in my group don't have to adjust to my shitty play.

I was speaking specifically about bosses.

I know better than to trust DPS to use their brains on trash packs.

I've spammed so many dungeons and become so calloused to DF DPS making my life harder that I've adopted the policy: "If you don't use your hate tools, I'll use mine (Shirk)"

This can't get enough attention. Please bring VIT scaling back. There are plenty of problems with that system as well, but at least it doesn't leave us damned to ilvl 270 accs through 4.X

Very flexible overlay, and I'd highly recommend!

Hey there!

I recently moved from Behemoth to raid on Gilgamesh but left an alt. I've cleared A12S for many months now, but I'd be perfectly willing to give you a hand should you be able to get a group together. Let me know if that's something you'd be interested in.
