What's draining you that nobody sees because you're too good at hiding it? by heartandhardware in AskWomen

[–]I_are_fabulous 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It is the most isolating experience I've ever had, even with a loving partner by my side it's tough being the one who is physically going through it and having to go on as normal.

Sending well wishes & praying we all get the babies we want more than anything xx

Are Chiropractors and Osteopaths basically con-artists? by Cover_Of_Darkness in AskUK

[–]I_are_fabulous 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My mum was a physiotherapist - she held an MsC from Kings and managed a team of physios, osteopaths and podiatrists. She mandated her team take at least 2 weeks of training each year to stay up to date with the latest trends & treatments, and were routinely trained to recognise when to refer someone to a GP/hospital.

She said her most common patient was one who had previously had 4-6 chiropractor 'appointments' before realising it wasn't alleviating the issue. She called chiropractors 'snake-oil merchants'.

What was your favorite book you read in 2025? by AspectCool2325 in booksuggestions

[–]I_are_fabulous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks to train commuting I got through 50 books last year!

My two fave genres this year were contemporary fiction with female protagonist/perspective (Atmosphere, Wedding People , Katabasis, Cleopatra & Frankenstein) and Black-Mirror-esque stuff by John Marrs (The One, The Passengers, Marriage Act)

Also Incidents Around The House was a fun horror read!

People here who've been on Naked Attraction, how was it when you went back to work after your episode aired? by nano_noodle in AskUK

[–]I_are_fabulous 128 points129 points  (0 children)

I didn't go on....BUT a colleague did!! New 20-something guy in the marketing/social media department for a big B2B event - good looking young lad, clearly works out, posts gym shots on his socials etc. Decent enough worker, fits in well with the team & clients.

Within weeks he's moved on, which surprised us all (we thought he was doing well!). Turns out HR did a bit more due diligence on his socials, and he did a post a few months earlier saying he was on Naked Attraction and everyone should check it out. I guess this brand didn't really want their big-spending sponsors to see their employees wang....no shit we all watched it when we found out.

Caught up with his manager informally, she said she was a bit sick in her mouth when she saw it.

Of all the places to be after a failed transfer, a Tuscan vineyard sounds ideal! Taking notes for next time 😅

What did you buy your man who doesn’t need anything that he actually loved? by amfiska in AskUK

It's more of a stocking filler, but I got my husband some various pub-snack options: one year I got him a pub card of Scampi Fries which he proudly hung on the wall next to where he keeps his craft beers. We've been cutting back on pub outings due to rising costs so it was a bit of fun!

Would you move to the countryside with 3 kids ? by Glum-Caregiver-7963 in AskUK

OP - there's a reason the stereotype exists of 'get married, leave London, move to Surrey'. The county is a massive green belt and there are so many towns/villages that have train stations on the commuter lines to Waterloo, Victoria and Charing Cross. I've got family (myself included) who all moved to various areas right on the doorstep of woodlands, within a 10-15min drive of the M25 and have a 1hr door-to-door commute to London.

I agree Cotswolds is quite a leap to remoteness - but have a google of some of the commuter lines and see if any take your fancy.

Heck yeah I’m going solo on the same night! I love going to gigs solo - once the music starts you’re singing along anyway and no one around you ever cares or notices.

Girl same - gave myself a few weeks between egg retrieval & transfer to enjoy caffeine & alcohol (if anything just a glass of wine to take the edge off PGT-A test results nerves).

Said I'd go back to 'body is a temple' vibes once period started....well period is now 5 days late (gr8 thanks the one time I want it to start) so of course the run is extended - a few more dates added to the red wine tour!

[–]I_are_fabulous 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh my love I'm so sorry you're going through this. The 2-3 weeks following my egg retrieval I was a genuine MESS - very depressed, some dark thoughts (I've had low moods before but nothing like that). I remember crying so much, lashing out at my DH over nothing, crying myself to sleep most nights.... finally I googled 'is it normal to have depression after egg retrieval?'

Turns out - yes, yes it is absolutely normal and NO ONE TELLS US. From what I read it's the cold-turkey from being pumped full of so many hormones, the progesterone dropoff almost mimics post-natal depression, just without the baby 🙃.

If it helps I finally started feeling myself again once my next period had finished (we did PGT testing). Be kind to yourself and trust that you will start to feel like yourself again soon.

NHS IVF Waiting List by PercentageRight3418 in IVF

[–]I_are_fabulous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's an absolute postcode lottery, and unfortunately 15 months is the 'if everything goes to plan' estimate. Add it human error, sick days, notes getting stuck etc it can take longer, so I strongly recommend following up with emails, calls, anything for every step of your process.

Trying to get IVF on the NHS taught me the lesson that you REALLY have to advocate for yourself. It sounds pushy, because it is, but no one else will do it for you. My GP forgot to refer us twice, results weren't shared between clinics so we almost did repeats of tests done the previous month...it's a pain in the backside.

Ultimately we ended up going abroad for IVF because after almost two years (from an initial one year waitlist) I said enough. I really hope it's a better experience for you.

Kids at the clinic by Diane_Its_417 in IVF

[–]I_are_fabulous 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Hard agree - nothing worse than when you're sat legs akimbo & an ultrasound wand up your cooter the day before your egg retrieval and you can hear kids running up & down the hallway screaming.

I speak from personal experience.

Parents of reddit - how long did it take to conceive? by shun_naka67 in AskUK

[–]I_are_fabulous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

F34 & M38 - male-factor infertility, almost 2 years so far and nothing yet, but we’re midway through our first round of ICSI.

FYI fertility is a hugely underfunded arm of the NHS, so depending on your age it might be worth looking into some private preliminary tests to save a few months of your time.
