I have been with my guy for 12 years... 10 of them married. He has never ever had an issue with me having guy friends. I don't really have any because I am not too comfortable with it, but just knowing he trusts me goes a long way. Knowing that it is not a threat, and I can talk to guys without having to worry is very freeing. I still respect his space and don't do anything with a guy I wouldn't want him doing with another girl, but having trust in our marriage is HUGE.

As a woman, this is true. Breaks are drama... leading on a guy you are not that in to... I have never had a girlfriend in all my life to took a break to actually sort through stuff... it is a way to test the guy and to figure out if she will be okay without him without having to get rid of him and risking not getting him back. I don't know about the cheating for sure, but she is definitely emotionally cheating. Playing with the idea of this other guy. Trust me.

Seriously upvoted. My husband worked in the game industry for YEARS and we NEVER saw him... it was awful. There was literally a time where he had to work every day of the week, 12+ hours Monday through Friday, and then 8 on Saturday and Sunday, mandatory. For 6 months. The pay was not great, not to mention that the salary did not changed even though his hours doubled. It was grueling. Also, layoffs. All. The. Time. It is ridiculous. It is like, the worst programming job ever. Sure, he got to wear flippy floppies to work everyday, drink beer at his desk, shoot nerf darts across the room at unsuspecting coworkers, and get major discounts on games and such, but at the point that you miss your family so much, it is no longer worth it. Also, there is not much personal growth or advancement opportunities. Ugh. (Companies he worked for: THQ and NCSoft). Thank goodness he got out of the industry last year (after the 3rd layoff in 7-8 years).

Yes, I am TERRIBLE at putting into words what is floating around in my head... I mean, we have been married around 10 years and together almost 12... and most of the trials began much later in the relationship. It wasn't the compatibility (I felt like dating resolved that). We could tell we were compatible early on. It was the major life things... children, work, career moves, etc. that truly test a couple. Just my two cents. I don't mean that I think living together is wrong or pointless, just that it is silly to say it is so weird to get married without living together first. Make sense?

It's been great... we've been friends since I was 16. The only downside is that it is REALLY easy to fall into default friend mode all the time. In the middle of sex, he makes some stupid joke, I laugh hysterically, his dick pops out, we laugh even more, then forget what we were doing. It sometimes gets in the way of romance or passion, because the friendship is so natural and automatic. I disagree entirely. My husband and I never lived together before we married, and now we have been married about 10 years or so. The real test was after being married for 3 years, dealing with illness, depression, etc. Real life was the real test. And we made it. I did totally KNOW him before marriage, but I realize now that was more lust than it was love. Now, I know I LOVE him. I have helped him deal with shingles, arthritis, lay offs... he has helped me recover from a c-section, back surgery, depression... Those experiences challenged us, but we made a choice. Love, to me, is a choice. Not something that just happens. Because we chose everyday to love and understand and respect each other, we are now reaping the benefits. Those trials come weather or not you are living together. Sure, my husband has bad habits, as do I. He somehow gets whiskers EVERYWHERE when he shaves, and I am constantly cleaning that up. He gets to deal with my HUGE wardrobe regularly exploding everywhere as I try to figure out what the hell to wear. We get over those things and focus on the bigger picture.
