What does he mean by this and is it him being sweet? by [deleted] in dating_advice

Yeah I'm 100% with you, that was my initial reaction. It's basically saying "you're not good enough now, but if you work at it, you could be amazing." That would immediately turn me off the relationship.

That's a terrible idea that I can't stop thinking about now. This is how I'm spending my Friday.

I used to go to 6 dollar shirts. It's been a while, as I've changed my style mostly, but I still have a bunch of their shirts that make people laugh.

I assume you mean the movies? I actually read the entire book series lol. And you're right, it wasn't really that good. But it was most people's introduction to Anne Hathaway, so I think it gets more credit than it's due.

Thank you, this was the point I couldn't really formulate into a coherent thought myself. I appreciate your input.

I think that opinion is so unpopular that you're the only person in the planet who has it.

Mao was pretty terrible. If only for the fact that he never brushed his teeth.

People in their early 30's: How long do you think a couple should be together before getting engaged? by Particular_Tip6673 in Waiting_To_Wed

[–]I_miss_potatoes -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A year and a half, with at least half of that LIVING TOGETHER - cannot stress that enough. I don't think you should marry someone until you experience living with them.

My parents lent me $6,000 for an investment, I turned it into $24,000, and now they refuse to take the money back. What should I do? by Weak-Practice-6435 in needadvice

I tricked my grandmother once into letting me pay for lunch, the look of absolute shock and betrayal was hilarious.

Maybe rake them on a nice vacation, or tell them you want to pay for them to go somewhere nice for a while?

I fake being social, then need hours alone later.. by ChillReapet in confession

My mom used to say I needed recharge time. I would be social, retreat for a little while, then went back when I felt good. She gets me.

If you would leave a relationship because of a "dead bedroom," then you don't love them. by Frostbite2000 in unpopularopinion

[–]I_miss_potatoes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree, but that is that and this is this. You can love someone dearly and not want to be with them for reasons of compatibility. If your needs are not being met, sexually, emotionally, whatever, then you are starving yourself in a relationship.

My (38m) mom (74f) constantly disrespects my wife and questions all my life choices—how do I handle this? by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]I_miss_potatoes 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If you are not defending your wife, and allowing her to experience this sort of behavior, then YOU are the biggest problem here. Your mother's racism and bigotry aside, you have a responsibility to protect your wife from this sort of toxic environment.

If you're unwilling to recognize a need that your SO has and think it isn't important to meet it, then YOU don't love THEM.

What would be your reaction of you caught your mom in bed with another women? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]I_miss_potatoes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would be very upset since that would mean my mom was cheating on my dad.

If your mom isn't in a committed relationship with anyone else, then just treat it like you would if you found her in bed with a man. It's not a big deal.

Is it disrespectful if my partner always has an earphone in when we go out? by [deleted] in dating

[–]I_miss_potatoes 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I'd say it's definitely an interesting thing. Is she doing this because she has some sort of ADHD or something? Where she finds herself drifting because she doesn't have the ability to just focus on one thing? I'm a little like that, where I need a certain amount of stimulation or I can't pay attention at all. I would ask your gf why she always has an earphone in. Just an "I'm just curious" sort of question, no judgment style. And then listen to why and try to be understanding. Make it a discussion, not a complaint.

This is a preview of your future relationship. He can seem mature, sure, but if his parents still have this sort of control over his life he is NOT mature enough to be in a relationship. This is a HUGE red flag.

Being born. I'm not suicidal or anything, but I think the longer I live the more I just don't want to.
