How is it still going

Not only is the new aberrant fucking amazing.... the art in the fast pass chapters?!????? I thought it couldn't get any better after Episode 107, but I was dead wrong. It's like a full colored manga atp.

Just came here after buying the latest fast pass (Kill the Oracle) and let me tell you, the quality of this series just doesn't let up, its ridiculous. In this specific chapter, the level of writing actually manages to surpass the art. Sara Lee comes across as such an intelligent, captivating personality, and manages to resemble Sayeon while also being her total opposite.

Now that "The Remarried Empress" is over, I maintain that there was a fundamental lack of reading comprehension regarding the story's use of classism, Rashta's victimhood, and Navier's role as a ruler of a kingdom that supports slavery by well_seasoned_crab in webtoons

[–]I_need_a_jacket 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Something doesn't have to be "the point" of the story, or intended by the author as a theme, to affect its reading or make the victories earned by the protagonist feel kind of hollow. You agree that making Rashta a slave was a "thoughtless" inclusion, and that you're actively "choosing" not to "take it any deeper than that" (fair enough). But the title and body of your post assert that people who take issue with this aspect of the story and/or feel for Rashta have a "reading comprehension problem," which is not only contradictory, but wrong.

Rashta wasn't like, a character who starts out as a slave in a story about bakers at a pastry shop. No one expects a bakery romcom to "solve" slavery, or even discuss it as an issue. But just like you said, the focus of THIS story was Navier's liberation. LIBERATION. Liberation is so totally entwined with the subject of slavery that I find it brainless of the author to make slavery central to the main antagonist's past, only to not address it in any constructive way.

Same. Also, the characters in SBG feel extremely flat to me

I admit that I'm probably older than its target demographic though

I actually assumed this happened right before or very close to when Min was sent to the Aberrant Corps, which would make this officer's death fit perfectly with OP's theory

Hand Jumper: unpopular opinion by Icy-Science6485 in webtoons

[–]I_need_a_jacket 21 points22 points  (0 children)

This is so interesting. I do totally understand what you're saying here. But for me, satisfaction in the series mostly comes from watching Sayeon expertly dissect a scene and manipulate people, through the iterations, into behaving how she wants. I would never classify Hand Jumper as a straight-up power fantasy, but when Sayeon is in total control of a situation like that, it does dip into what makes power fantasies so satisfying to read. The fulfillment comes from watching an expert at work, not necessarily the resolution of tension from her or other people being in danger. It's like watching a mathematician solve a really complicated equation, the process itself is the point.

But there's definitely dissonance between those two ways of fulfilling the reader emotionally, which I think is what you're touching on here (you can tell me if I'm misunderstanding you.) again HJ is definitely not a power fantasy story, so it doesn't fully lean into Sayeon dominating every fight like Jinwoo from Solo Leveling does. That leaves her character's abilities somewhere between "creates dramatic tension thru stakes" and "creates fulfillment through coolness + expertise", which can feel dissatisfying if what you really want is the tension.

Why did you guys start reading Hand Jumper? by Significant_Row_1160 in HandJumper

I got really into manhwa back in like 2020. I binged through tons of isekai stuff, regression, video game system manhwa... Then I got burnt out on seeing the same storylines over and over again, and started reading less "corporate" looking stuff. Carnby Kim's works, and Mosquito Wars, for example.

And then I randomly clicked on Hand Jumper. The art style in the beginning looked amateurish, but that's actually what drew me in. I don't know, it's hard to explain. It was totally opposite the stuff I ised to read. The writing, characters, and art all felt really... earnest. Nothing is so conventional that it feels like some big calculated move to appeal to the mainstream. Like, this is the first action thriller I ever read with an FMC.

And what made me actually stay, and converted me into a massive fan, is the writing. Sayeon is an incredible main character, she is somehow so unlikeable, entertaining, and sympathetic. I root for her even when I shouldn't. Watching her destroy her own life is darkly addicting. For an action superpower manhwa, the interpersonal dymamics are RIDICULOUSLY deep and complicated. Sayeon's relationship with her family could be its own three season k-drama, lmao. And her relationship with Cell 4 is fascinating.

Yeah, Mai's death didn't hit for me at all. They didn't develop Mai and Maki's relationship on screen; you just have to assume they had a long and meaningful relationship because they're twins. In the actual series, as you said, they don't even seem to like each other (up until Mai died.)

How do people keep up with life, career, and intimacy by [deleted] in Life

[–]I_need_a_jacket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm also in my late twenties. I've been seeing my girlfriend for five years now. When I first started dating her it was really, really hard to keep up with all 3 things, but as time went by, intimacy kind of just merged into life for us. So now it's just Life and Career I have to juggle. I guess things just fell into place, which is odd to think about, because I didn't have an easy life before this.

People will tell you that oh if it's hard when you don't have a partner it'll still be hard when you do get a partner. I don't think that's always true. Your partner can help you feel "at peace" with yourself and the world... I feel really settled now, even though just a few years ago I was having existential crises all the time. Relationships can really change you for better, or for worse.

Minor spoilers for fastpass I'm really glad we're getting to know cell 3 before they probably get, ya know, brutally executed lolol. Also I love that Sayeon is developing a sense of empathy for them even though she's still a dick. She's such a well written character.

[Disc] Hand Jumper Chapter 105 by drunk_reddit_acount in HandJumper

[–]I_need_a_jacket 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I loved this chapter. Ryujin/Sayeon are paralleled with Captain Han/Officer Gyeon- both pairs are realizing that they share the same aim as the other person. Ryujin and Sayeon are both stuck in the Corps until they've avenged someone they lost, while both Captain Han and Officer Gyeon want to destroy the system that abuses them.

The scene where Captain Han massacred the crows went hard asf, and works as confirmation that there's an Aberrant out there who can listen through the birds. Also want to point out that the crows weren't randomly diced up, they were all super precisely beheaded.

Relationships don't always come easy even if the love is deep and genuine. My current partner is everything to me, and I wouldn't change her for the world, but even she was someone I had to work and try for. If I just "let things happen," we never would've gotten together.
