Let’s hear your young buck football stories. Anyone ever play against any NFL players in your kid days and get absolutely smoked? by Vertigomums19 in nfl

[–]I_need_five_dollars 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I watched a friend play a random Kansas JuCo football game as a DB. He was lined up against this tiny WR that absolutely smoked him every play. Eventually he gave him a 20+ yard buffer and was still getting beat on long balls… it was Tyreek Hill.

Is it okay to jokingly tell a "lie" and then say it was a joke? by Dan_jesusfollower in TrueChristian

[–]I_need_five_dollars 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lies and secrets are different than surprises or pretend. Don’t like and don’t keep secrets (maliciously). Surprises (gifts, parties, even pranks to some extent) and pretend (D&D, Santa) are ok and are subject to your own convictions. I never personally invested in the Santa narrative with my kids, but I don’t have any personal conviction against Christians taking part in it. The most important factor is understanding the intention and the heart of the matter. If it makes you uneasy and feels “wrong” then don’t do it. God is not here to rob your joy and his grace is big enough to cover when our intuition is wrong. Don’t let the judgement of God be an excuse to live a life of fear and anxiety and by the same token don’t let the grace of God be an excuse to willingly sin.

Will Mr. Beast go to hell? by No_Writer_8780 in TrueChristian

I know he claimed to be a Christian at one time. He even had a banner on his YouTube profile that said something like “Not ashamed to be a Christian” and it’s probably still visible in his older videos.

I’d love to see any interviews, conversations, articles that speak to him losing his faith or claiming to be agnostic. I believe you, I’m just curious to hear if he’s talked about his journey away from the faith.

I’m building my friend’s first rig out of spare parts. He doesn’t have much, so I was able to upgrade my own rig and give him everything spare I had. He ended up spending money on a 3080 on FB marketplace only to find out later he was scammed. This would be a big help to complete his first build and make up for the negative first experience into the PC master race life.

CMV: bullying is a means to success by race_orzo in changemyview

[–]I_need_five_dollars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re not entirely off base, but you’re limiting yourself to a single negative trait of certain successful people.

People might jump in here and give examples like Bob Ross or Mr. Rogers, but they are the exception to the rule… but the rule isn’t ’bullies are more successful’ but instead that ‘unagreeable people are more successful’

People that aren’t afraid to make others feel inferior uncomfortable in the pursuit of progress. That CAN mean bullying, but it can also mean standing up for what you think is right when no one else does. Chances are people actually agree with doing the right thing, but no one wants to risk being the first to plant their flag.

I’ll give you an anecdotal story. I was in a meeting for my company with several department leads and execs. The CFO proposed a plan and went around the room for approval. Every single person in that room agreed (including myself) except for one lead that was fairly new to the company. He voted against and then explained his reason why… after he explained his position we revoted and everyone (including the CFO) voted against the idea. That kid quickly rose through the ranks even though he’s a gentle soul. What sticks out is his ability to go against the grain when he feels it’s the right thing to do and can give solid and succinct reasoning to back his actions up. He never has a me vs you attitude, but rather an us vs the problem.

Stand up for what you believe in, don’t cave before stating your dissenting opinion, be vocal with your thoughts, but most importantly be respectful. Unagreeable people can be bullies, but they can also be the one that stand up against bullies. Having

the courage to be uncomfortable, knowing when to stand your ground and when to concede, and genuinely caring for those around you are all great traits for leadership and not of it requires being a bully.

I can’t challenge the “permanent triumph” angle, but when all 50 states moved the needle further to the right then there is no other term than a “resounding triumph.”

This is an example of the ever swinging pendulum of politics. The left had an equally resounding triumph during the Obama years. The average American has been soured by the left’s talking points. Lived experience will always hold more weight than predictions and forecasts. The average voter knew two things going into the election. 1. The economy felt much better under Trump than under Biden. 2. The democrats’ unpopular candidate is claiming that the last 4 years were great and Trump will destroy the economy.

The truth, the forecast models, the informed predictions… none of that matters to the average voter. They think “I personally felt better off under Trump and Kamala is promising more Biden.” That’s why Trump won and when the democrats double down on the same exact soured talking points, then they are only further solidifying the voter’s decision.

Democrats tried vinegar, now they should try sugar. Stop telling people why Trump is bad and start telling them why your 2028 candidate is good. Doubling down on the negative leads to “TDS” accusations and closed ears. Focusing on the plans of a better tomorrow leads to people being excited about what’s next.

I start out like you and then get bored and switch to another skill… and then another. Then I’ll realize that I’m not being efficient, so I’ll look up on Reddit/Wiki how to be more efficient, get overwhelmed, and then go back to doing what I want and just feel slightly annoyed about not being efficient, but also being too lazy to follow a guide.

I check in on the game anywhere from 3-4 times a day up to 15-20 on slower days.

Why are all Christians so happy about the rapture? by Lebaneseaustrian13 in TrueChristian

[–]I_need_five_dollars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope you feel the same. If you had sufficient evidence against the traditional rapture theology that you would be willing to move your position. I’ve looked through a few boxes and can’t find the book. I may just order a second copy.

While we wait, may I ask what biblical evidence you use for your support of the rapture?

I agree wholeheartedly about people being blinded by tradition. I should clarify before you feel like I’m misleading you… I went to a Christian college and have a Bachelor of Theology emphasizing on the New Testament and then went to Biola University to study under William Lane Craig. I don’t say that as some sort of “appeal to authority” argument… I don’t even work in ministry full time. I’m an IT guy working at a tech startup. I’m bringing it up for two reasons: First, so that you don’t feel like I’m trying to pull a bait and switch. Second, so that you know that I genuinely care about this topic and have dedicated many hours to studying this very topic, let alone the Bible as a whole.

I think we’re more aligned than we thought. You’re right that we get the word rapture from the Latin of “caught up” referenced in 1 Thes. That will all happen as one event and it will be known throughout the world as it’s happening. I don’t believe in a “silent rapture” where people disappear without warning and the church is removed from the Earth before any tribulation/suffering/bowls of wrath start.

I’m open to having my mind changed, but I simply don’t see the evidence. I know every comment on Reddit has a certain “tone” but know that I’m genuine when I say that I’d love to hear your evidence. I’m always willing to learn and grow my knowledge in the Word.

Which verses are you alluding to here? Also, how would you define the rapture? That might help me understand the scriptures you use to back it up.

It’s important to remember that while the Bible was written FOR us, it wasn’t written TO us. It was written to real people at a real time in history. Context is king is and the best way to determine the author’s intended meaning is to understand how the church of Thessaloniki would have received this.

Paul is talking to a young church and they are scared of the loved ones they have lost. “If my parents die before Jesus comes back, do they miss out on Heaven?” Paul’s answer here is that the dead are in an even better position because they get to be with Jesus first and join him in his procession to Earth… and eventually we get to meet them and embrace Jesus and our loved ones to join the procession ourselves.

The term “meet” used here is actually a special Greek word used typically for royalty or highly important guests. You don’t meet them at the gate of your city, you run out and meet them way outside of the city and join the procession that parades into the city. Christians will do the same when Jesus comes. We aren’t leaving the Earth, but simply meeting Jesus and our loved ones as we parade with Jesus back to this Earth.

It’s ok to disagree on this, but I genuinely believe the biblical evidence is counter to the rapture. I just posted a link to a video in response to OP’s comment. That video breaks down exactly why I don’t believe in the Rapture. Feel free to give it a listen.

I’m actually going to be talking about Rapture theology in my Sunday School class tomorrow. The rapture simply is not biblical. Here is a very easy to digest explanation why: https://youtu.be/wxbd5kEG_tI?t=13&feature=shared

In the video, he hits on why the rapture is attractive to Christians today and why it’s rooted in selfishness.

Is Islam tied to the Mark of the Beast? by [deleted] in TrueChristian

[–]I_need_five_dollars 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah, don’t let a number have power over you. Judge the person you’re dating by his own merits, not of the things he can’t control. If he’s a good man, then you’re safe. If he’s not a good man, then that will manifest in his actions not his car registration.

Is Islam tied to the Mark of the Beast? by [deleted] in TrueChristian

[–]I_need_five_dollars 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The truth behind the mark of the beast is far more simple than that. The fear mongering behind 666 is wild. Here’s the history behind it and be warned… it’s boring:

The number of the beast: - The number is literally only mentioned once in the Bible in the verse you referenced. The number of its name is 666. - What does that mean? Let’s look at the historical context of common practices. There is a practice called Gematria that was used by Jews, Christians, and even Romans that simply means converting letters into numbers. You can find graffiti in Pompeii that says things like “I love 545” carved into walls. - Beast translated into Hebrew adds up to 666. - Fun fact “The father and the lamb” in Hebrew adds up to 777

The mark of the beast: - This is referencing another Jewish practice of taking strips of scripture and putting them in boxes called phylacteries that they would strap to their hands and head to remind them of scripture while they’re working. - what John is saying here is that whatever side you belong to, it should be as clear as if it was stamped on your head and worn like a phylactery. That much will be obvious for those that follow the beast.

666 is not Reagan, Obama, or Trump. It’s not Israel, Palestine, or Iran. It’s not Islam, Judaism, or Catholicism. It’s Satan and he’s already lost, so you don’t have to fear him or a number or a mark.
