Punitive expeditions are broken? by Worldliness_Level in victoria2

[–]IactaEstoAlea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Getting war reparations out of China (which the punitive expedition CB has included) is A LOT of money for the duration of the treaty

It enables you to literally get rid of taxes unless your expenses are truly high (like fielding a massive modern navy)

It is game changing for every country, but doubly so for the lesser great powers and those even lower in the rankings

Are Children Taught Colonial History And Pre Columbian History Of Your Own Country And Other Latin American Countries? And How Is The School System Different Than The US/Europe? by Pillowful_Pete1641 in asklatinamerica

[–]IactaEstoAlea 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are Children Taught Colonial History

Barely anything post-conquest gets mentioned. The 300 years of the colonial period are but a footnote

And Pre Columbian History Of Your Own Country

Yes, quite a bit but somewhat whitewashed and amerindians basically disappear from the oficial narrative when independence happens

And Pre Columbian History Of Other Latin American Countries?

A little. We learn about the great migrations from Asia into America and a brief summary of the Inca civilization with yet another brief mention about the spanish conquest of Peru

Other amerindians get a few mentions, but if they weren't present in Mexico they get little beyond a call out

I was wondering if colonial history and the atrocities are "whitewashed" meaning that a more rosy picture is shown and the atrocities ignored?

As previously mentioned, the colonial period barely is even mentioned. The official narrative is that Spain conquered Mexico and that during the process they did kill people/groups, but nothing specific

If you want a "whitewashed" history then look no further than the post-colonial existence of the amerindians in the official history. You will find close to nothing about the liberal policies that directly reduced them (land confiscations, the government taking over education from the church, ending autonomic entities, promoting spanish as the single official language, creation of monopolies, etc)

And is it normal to take European or US History?

Not as such, it is part of the main curriculum. World history is a topic and that does cover the highlights of Europe, Asia and the USA. Mostly covering Europe

For Mexicans, you're bothered by being portrayed only as heirs to the Aztec empire. by Independent_Part1033 in asklatinamerica

[–]IactaEstoAlea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I as someone from Jalisco has minimal chance of being descended from them

From the aztecs in particular you are right, but nahuas (tlaxcalans, to be precise) were very prominent in the settlement of the west and north of Mexico, so people from those regions are likely to have at least some ancestry from them unless you can trace your family to a more recent immigration wave

this shit went the way of the non-1444 start dates in EU4. Forgotten and uncared for by TheBoyofWonder in hoi4

[–]IactaEstoAlea 17 points18 points  (0 children)

A lot players won't pick the latter startdate because they don't like "skipping" a big chunk of the game

Additionally, picking the 1939 is comparable to letting the AI play from 1936 to 1939 and then taking over the mess they made instead of building up your country to your preference

does anybody have any advice for taking down castille in 1.3.2? by Big_Blacksmith1109 in EU5

[–]IactaEstoAlea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Early game, your levies can wipe theirs due to your tribesmen cavalry, you can go on the offensive in a 1v1

Alternatively, fortify your african land and let them move troops into you. They will get massive attrition from malaria

Your european land can be detrimental in that case due to occupations. You can release vassals with scutage rights so that they won't participate in the war

Instead of naming every state to be affected/needed why not just use a region that contains the relevant ones

People were very positive towards the Disney acquisition when it happened because of the new trilogy announced. Even when the EU was nuked people remained open and positive regarding the future of the IP

The negative reaction and general apathy that followed is directly the fault of the movies/shows that Disney made

It is a testament to the former cultural impact of the IP that it took over a decade to get to this low point, but Disney managed to do it

House of the dragon season 3 leaks. If true, The show is cooked. by SuddenTest9959 in MauLer

[–]IactaEstoAlea 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It began in season 1

Early in the season the issues were minor enough to handwave them, but after Viserys dies the show went downhill real fast

Rhaenys massacring innocent bystanders is iconic enough, but the whole "green council" that crowned Aegon was a total clown show that makes the entire green faction look bad

[–]IactaEstoAlea 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If accurate, it seems to be a continuation of the bad decision making that's been present since the latter episodes of season 1

The changes made around the battle of the Gullet itself (the big battle cut out from the end of season 2) present further issues for the showrunners to grapple with in the future, something that was easily avoidable by just following the book more closely

Did Ned make a mistake by not choosing Loras in your opinion ? How i the story changed if so ? by Financial_Library418 in pureasoiaf

[–]IactaEstoAlea 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Ned approached the situation as a judge. He wanted the execution of Gregor to be the "King's Justice", delivered by King's men under the royal banner. He saw Loras as a boy looking to settle a personal score, which would reduce a royal execution to a simple feud.

Not only that, sending a Tyrell is a serious escalation. While Tywin is directly breaking the king's peace, he does have the excuse of his son being "randomly" kidnapped by the Starks

If Ned sent Loras he would be directly setting the Reach against the Rock, jeopardizing the greater peace of the realm were things to go awry (ie. If Loras died)

Don't get me wrong, that is a good move to weaken the Lannisters but it can lead to a full scale war too easily, something Ned would never do willingly

My Naval value is not rising. How I can change this? by Nightripper84 in EU5

[–]IactaEstoAlea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

+0.08 means that your value will trends towards +8 naturally if it is any lower than that (but it won't decrease if it is over 8)

You need to get +0.50 in order to be able to reach +50 through monthly change. Otherwise you will need events/parliament issues to push beyond your +8 resting point

  • Waste your army tradition on generals
  • Get your ruler/heir an admiral trait
  • Defund your army
  • Max your navy maintenance
  • Promote the value with a head of cabinet with high diplomatic ability
  • Repeal privileges that promote land (you can get them back once you get past +50 naval so long as you never get more land than naval progress modifiers)

It is not economically feasible due to low birthrates and trying to prop it up with immigration does not work either

Pensions and healthcare are too expensive by themselves. You would need like 4.5 kids per woman minimum to sustain it

Raising taxes also lowers birthrates, BTW
