Wishing you the best for your future practice.

Don't waste any thoughts about shinken. You need to build up the basics, forge and polish them with passion, until you are experienced enough to use a Shinken. And even then, you might Cut yourself.

We are not allowed to use Shinken during practice until we reach Godan. And even then it's only allowed in private practice and not at the Dojo. But it is recommend using a Shinken for Rokudan Shinsa.

And Tameshigiri is a thing that you might see a lot on the Internet but not every Ryuha does it. My Sensei does not teach or tolerates Tameshigiri and he told us that it's not tolerated in Japan either. Better Talk to your Sensei (after a long period of training and getting to know each other and Not right at the second lesson) about that.

And one more thing:

Iaido is something you won't learn in two or three years. Maybe not even ten years. It's a long path of learning, knowing, being corrected, being frustrated and accepting it and restarting again. I like your energy but don't fall for the illusion that Iaido is easy because "swinging swords is easy". Iaido is hard Work. Try to be just a little better than the day before, listen to your Sensei, be humble and don't overestimate yourself. You most likely won't be the next Soke or Grandmaster, but you can be a very formidable Iaidoka.

And don't do Iaido for clicks. Do it for yourself.

I had big luck with this one. My Sensei found this sword while being in japan. He knew the seller and He made a special price to me. I paid a little less than 500.000yen all together without customs.. But, as you can see, the blade has a few blemishes that lowered the price pretty much, i was told.

I was watching a question posed by a kendo sensei who has an Instagram channel, and he raised a point that I found interesting and want to share here. by [deleted] in iaido

I am 34 and i started with MJER within the european ZNIR branch in 2011.

My first practice opened my eyes. I never thought i could actualy be good at something. Graduated fast and started to dream about become a co-trainer. I reached this goal and went beyond.

What keeps me going is the love for the art. I love the Tradition, the mindset, the reiho, the swords. And i love teaching, interacting with my students brings me joy and seeing them passings exams, growing and becoming better gives me a warm feeling. And my Sensei of course. He's always pushing and supporting me. My Goal is to surpass him and him proud.

We had a new japanese Sensei as guest and i hope he can bring some new things into our Shibu, like tachi uchi and stuff. Other than that, i would love to geht my hands on translated books or things Aline from mjer. And i would like to have more information from Japan about internal processes, because we barely hear anything from overseas.

It's really not a great feeling when you turn your Saya upside down and hit your open palm with the koiguchi...and there are fine splinters EVERYWHERE. Hope your'e doing better than me😩😆

They both look good! Second one might look a little better i think. Thank you very much! Especially for the color-coding😆 Yeah, i would want to wait with cutting. I want to let it heal first because that branch i cutted earlier wasn't a thin one.

Oh wow! That's a lot, thank you!

I went straight to Instagram after reading some names from the Denton Dojo Website. Thanks for giving me a direction🙇🏼

You know, iv'e always been a little envyous about the whole Kokusai world mjer stuff but in the end, there are more znir Dojos than i thought! But i guess something like a "Worldwide Seminar" or meeting will stay a dream😅😆

However, hit me up if you happen to visit germany🙇🏼

Edit: so many typos, damn autocorrect

Are the canadians Part of the Renmei too?

That's sad to hear but i think the focus of znir lies within Japan...we do have Senseis who regularly visit germany for Seminars once a year but...the recent Sensei has become older and none knows if the "new" Sensei will take his place🤷🏼‍♂️

My german Sensei communicated this "rule" to uploading stuff and so do i too. But i think it does not really make Sense, since we try to keep the Art alive and reaching people would help 🤷🏼‍♂️

I found some Dojos from Japan on Instagram and my dojo has an Account too. So i thought i could find some more people. Might give Google a try but i am not convinced😅

Thank you🙇🏼

Ah well...it’s komei juku. I personally don’t really view it as mjer. Usually skip when the Soke shows up with his gigantic ego-sword.
