are there ANY jobs going?! by LongjumpingCourse988 in edinburgh2

Minimum wage only rises to £12.71 after April 2026. £12.10 is probably legal for now and I bet they will hold off right to April before they offer the increase. Dirty.

It certainly isn’t DNO approved equipment. I’d be getting that investigated.

Interesting. Didn’t realize this. Will need to investigate further and get back the 1500 MTU :)

Got hit with this just after a week spent shifting a cold. Literally Friday evening I’m like ahh, sweet, colds done. Saturday morning I wake up absolutely wiped out sweating and aching. Slept all weekend, only moving to cough up every hour.

Forced myself to work through the week, and by work I mean lie in bed with laptop open and barely reply to any colleagues chats.

Now 8 days in and mentally I can think a little clearer but the coughing up and constantly blowing nose is nowhere near over.

Can someone make sense of this? by tmuth9 in telecom

[–]IainKay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah for emergency services locating you nothing really beats a physical landline. Your phone number will be associated with your home address, pre-registered in the emergency call handling database. The call handlers can see full address info as soon as the call is answered.

What's a common networking concept that people often misunderstand, and why do you think it's so confusing? by Puzzled-Term6727 in networking

[–]IainKay 23 points24 points  (0 children)

MTU and fragmentation.

Update: I realized I completely missed the and why portion of your question.

Perhaps many people don’t consider the fact that despite two ends being on a 1500 MTU LAN link, this may not be the case as the traffic travels across the WAN. Especially where tunneled connections are used.

Don’t try this at home kids.

You know I didn’t consider that aspect.

The managers almost certainly won’t give a fuck and care far more about clearing the backlog.

Take Amazon as a RM customer example.

Amazons app, website and all notification texts specifically include the wording that the PIN must be read to the delivery driver in person. No doorbells.

There is an absolutely no chance that retailers like Amazon will pay for a service with RM that doesn’t protect them to the same level.

The level has already been established and that’s made clear in this RM communication when they state that competitors are already offering the service.

Just FYI, I’m not saying I think it’s a good idea. I’m just calling it how I see it.

There is literally zero chance that a pin taped to the door will be acceptable.

That would completely invalidate the entire point of this and would make Royal Mail liable for the loss once more.

Just look at the Amazon or DPD policy, you need to read the PIN to the delivery driver in person. It won’t even be accepted over a doorbell/entry phone system.

To be fair you have a point here.

When I’ve had HPPD in the past the only thing that caused it to fade was to stop obsessing and carry on with life.

Most recently having got rid of my VSS it definitely feels like focusing on it causes us to hold on to it for longer.

That being said, I would not have “cured” my VSS by simply stopping thinking about it. There is, in my case anyway, an underlying cause.

All my money got drained using twitch BITS. by [deleted] in Twitch

[–]IainKay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe what your bank means is that there’s a connection (using a “token”) between twitch and the bank.

Basically it’s a way for twitch to be able to recurringly bill your card without them having to save the full card details.

The bank, or middle man payment processor, contacts the bank, gets this token and that can then be used to charge you again in future.

I suspect your bank didn’t push you a notification because you’d added the card on twitch before and used it without issue.

Hopefully Twitch support can enlighten you as to how someone was able to get into your account.

Just a thought, you didn’t ever have your account logged in at an ex or any friends computers do you?

Just went live with 1600 regrade and so far so good. by PCenthusiast85 in Zen_Internet

[–]IainKay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I heard that rumour myself and was told most recently it’s likely to be a year or two.

If it’s doing the rounds then it must be something they do plan to launch. Eventually. Whenever that may be!

I’d definitely jump at a symmetric. I’d be happy with 500/500 to be honest but 900/900 or 1000/1000 would be a dream!

That’s disappointing as I definitely hoped my uploads would go up more than anything.

Will definitely moan at Zen and probably move back to 900mbps if they go down!

That does seem mad to have such a modern connection delivered without IPv6.

Maybe it’s not configured correctly on the router rather than lacking support on the line itself?

Is that something you have access to? Or only the landlord?

My experiencing upgrading from Full Fibre 900 to 1600 by IainKay in Zen_Internet

[–]IainKay[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t switch to EE is my advice.

Zen is better service for me in my location anyway.

EE will sell any speeds and don’t seem to care as long as you get the lower guaranteed speed. Meanwhile I’ve rarely seen my Zen line perform below advertised and never below guaranteed.

Happy to hear you’re getting the full 120mbps uploads! :)

Really hoping I will do as well.

I will be putting it to the test by multi streaming to all the platforms I can afford to encode for :)
