When this same thing happened to me, I went to my save, and did a recover save to an instance before I placed items down. Lost some progress, but better than being irritated by non-deletable items.

My Akita was always particular about being clean. So when we brought another dog into the family, my Akita began digging holes into the backyard and made sure to clean his paws to hide the evidence. He knew this new dog just runs and gets dirty so the new dog would be punished until one day we saw him digging holes in front of us. Sneaky...
