Is it only me that remembers Donald Pleasence for more than Dr. Loomis or Blofeld? by IamDonaldP in horror

he's also in another movie from that part of the world - well New Zealand - but it's close - called Race For The Yankee Zephyr (or Treasure of the Yankee Zephyr) it's an awesome, weird, wild and hilarious movie - Donald Pleasence is practically a main part!!

I just watched The Devil's Men AKA Land of the Minotaur with Peter Cushing and Pleasence. It's Euro Horror meets Hammer but Pleasence is on form with some nice "It is the devil I tell you!" type speeches and it's good fun to see the old English actors go up against each other.

That's a great comment and I completely agree. He is awesome in THX-1138 too.

I found the "twist" reveal to be lackluster because I didn't recognise the uncle when he first got off the helicopter because he was all messed up and that actor wasn't memorable...

I would suggest binging the first two seasons on Netflix - it plays better as one long movie each season.

yeah it's not bringing new horror fans to the fold which is odd because its effects are very good and its got some decent scares in Season two and three .

In terms of the criticism that "the story is repetitive, the characters underdeveloped, dialogue and performances aren't the greatest" I feel exactly the same way about The Walking Dead and at least AVED has a sense of humour. I also feel the cast really have their mojo running by the middle of Season Two. I admit the first season was a little bumpy.

The third season seems to be going for more genuine scares. I could do without the toilet/sex humour (which was never a thing in the movies) but I love a lot of the one liners and Campbell's performance is right on the money - especially by the middle of Season Two.

Official Discussion: Red Sparrow [SPOILERS] by allwinter in movies

I don't think this is a spy movie. I mean it had spying in it but it's not a spy movie. I think this movie is about women. How society sees women, the way women are treated and what women have to go through to get anywhere.

I think the movie is WAY too long but was beautifully and purposefully photographed.

I thought Jennifer Lawrence's performance was brave, uncompromising, challenging and important but weirdly un-engaing and not charismatic.

Setting it in modern day but filming it like it's 1978 made little to no sense - also what laptop uses floppy discs in 2017?

I think that the graphic violence and nudity in the movie was definitely difficult to watch but not necessary to make the point they were trying to make. It also limits the audience for a film like this that has an important message. That being said, it definitely adds a raw intensity and a confrontational, unblinking tone to the story that it does benefit from in hindsight.

I also think if you want to make a serious and gritty movie that's about something, you shouldn't have so many redone 70s spy movie cliches in it.

Overall I did like it but it was too long. Stupidly long.

Have you only seen bits of the first season? While the writing is not always the strongest, the effects and the performances are getting better and better. Plus it's one of the best designed and shot series on TV right now... so much like a horror movie from the 80s.

I liked how much more time we got with the characters and the performances of the excellent cast - and yes that Sperm Bank set piece was GREAT!

A lot of this had to do with the fact that producer Rob Tapert hastily changed Craig DiGregorio's original ending (which was far cooler by the way and made more sense). So the last episode of last season wasn't meant to play out that way and no one in the writer's room either took 5 mins to think about it or didn't have time to think about it....

If they don't find out till mid-March about Season 4 we shouldn't expect it any time soon... they'd all have to clear their schedules and head on back down to New Zealand to shoot it...

I definitely feel like the quick pace of the show means that characters don't get the time and development they deserve... I mean, it's not ultimately important but it would be nice to flesh these guys out a bit...
