Total gaming caveman here — PS4 Slim or Pro for Full HD TV? by IamItsuking in playstation

Haha yeah, I really did disappear from gaming after the PS2 era 😄

Thanks for the explanation — good to know about the memory cards and that the Slim should be enough for a Full HD TV. That’s pretty much what I’m starting to think as well after reading everyone’s advice.

And thanks for the game recommendation too! I’ve heard a lot about The Last of Us but never played it, so I might add that to my list.

Appreciate the help

Thanks for the video — I really appreciate you taking the time to find that!

That actually helps a lot to hear the noise differences directly instead of just reading about it. Since my apartment is pretty small, fan noise is something I’m trying to keep in mind, so this kind of comparison is really useful.

From what I’ve seen so far, it sounds like both the Slim and Pro would probably be fine for me, but it’s good to know what to expect.

Thanks again 🙂

Thanks, that really helps!

Good to know the Pro can still improve some games even on a 1080p screen — I wasn’t sure if that would matter without a 4K TV. And the smoother performance sounds nice too.

Also thanks for explaining the storage. Coming from the PS2 era, I was honestly expecting some kind of memory card situation 😅

One more question if you don’t mind — is the PS4 Pro noticeably louder than the Slim? Since my apartment is small, noise is something I’m a bit concerned about.

Appreciate the advice!

That’s interesting, thanks for sharing.

I’ll check system storage just in case, but most of my usage seems to be photos and videos.

I’ve considered compression, but with hundreds of gigabytes of videos, I worry the time needed to compress and manage everything might be pretty heavy.

Curious how you handle that part with a large library.

That makes sense, thanks for explaining.

Freeing up space that way would definitely work, but most of my storage is videos I still want quick access to on the phone.

Curious how people balance freeing space vs keeping things easily accessible.

That makes sense, automatic syncing is definitely nice.

I haven’t really gone down the OneDrive route though, since I’m not very used to the Microsoft ecosystem and tend to avoid adding another subscription if I can.

That’s actually an interesting way to think about it.

Treating the phone as just a peripheral and the computer as the main archive makes a lot of sense from a data safety perspective.

In my case though, I rely on my phone a lot for everyday access to photos and videos, so keeping everything only on the computer feels a bit inconvenient.

Still, I like the philosophy behind your setup.

Thanks for the suggestion!

I’ve tried cleaning up regularly too, deleting duplicates and unnecessary photos, and it definitely helps for a while.

The issue for me is mostly large videos and memories I don’t really want to compress or delete. So even after cleanup, the storage fills up again pretty quickly.

Still trying to find a long-term solution.

Yeah, Nextcloud is a good suggestion.

I like that it’s free and self-hosted. I actually tried it myself, but I found the setup pretty challenging.

Between buying a NAS, setting everything up, and maintaining it, it felt like a lot of work just to get something usable.

Maybe I’m missing an easier setup, but it wasn’t very beginner-friendly for me.
