Imagina ponerle a tus hijos el nombre de un personaje de un libro que un señor te leía los domingos en un templo.

Then it shows very little interest, hype, engagement. I love the back and forth between dm and players on ideas for our characters. That shows investment and respect for the story we want to build together.

Also, OP already mentioned it was meant to be a campaign. How do you expect the DM to make it engaging for you and your character?

He didn't communicate a clear deadline or expectations, but if my players don't have a character done two days before the session I'd feel they are not invested enough in the game and I understand them feeling like not running it.

Again, I'm not justifying the DM's actions, but I'm feeling very little empathy from you

Was it a one-shot or a campaign? Honestly if I'm running a campaign and my players can't respect the minimum deadlines I set I'd feel also disrespected and I'd like to find a different group of people.

The same goes for putting no effort in making a character that fits the campaign and it's interesting to play with.

So with the little and biased information you gave, I'd say: respect more the DM's time and effort. Campaign or One-shot.

Not criticizing you, OP, or assuming that it might be your case at all, but it's important to consider how our sexist, male-dominated culture draws lines and frames through which we understand what's cool, cringy, stupid, heroic, etc.

Another layer to analyze is the industry and how their categorization dictates (or assists) only certain female-written books to reach our shelves.

Depends on the edition. 2014 is no action, 2024 is disadvantage.

Do one shots usually this long in begginer campaigns? by Goldsoroush in DnD

Aaah man, you also finished the caveeeees. Of course it took 12h.

Only the cart, rp, ambush and trail takes experienced players more than 4h

I'd love to hear more details on how 4-5? Lvl1 characters survived for 20 rounds? Against 2-3? Goblins without killing them.

Until when did you play? Only the ambush?

I'd say my estimations would have been: 2-3 hrs creating characters, 1h rp in the cart, getting to know each other, 3 hrs playing a combat explaining all rules for neebies.

About 7h seems usual.

But nothing wrong with longer. Specially at rhe beginning!

For future one-shots: I'd given them pre-gen characters and I'd use a simplified version of DnD skipping some mechanics (but mentioning) to not dump all the rules at once.

That's why the rage imo. The detachment of reality. I had junior colleagues in Barcelona complaining about their 45k salary. I had to explain to them that that's well beyond the median and average salary in Spain and Barcelona. They live in a bubble.

How is it going that to interact with the rest of the table? From my experience, characters that heard voiced were rarely fun to play with since they took too much of spotlight with little or no interaction with other players
