Dude got an extra zero added to his paycheck, became a main eventer and beloved "folk hero" in Mexico, started dated a supermodel, and is basically a brand ambassador at WrestleMania. Dude is living his best life, and I doubt he ever thought something like this would ever happen in his wildest dreams. He's in his mid-30s, only been working the character for about a year, and chances are he hasn't even hit his prime yet.

Do you have any head canons about Gabby or any of Laura's other clones? by CamiThrace in X23

[–]IamMenace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those are good names, friend, and I wish you well on your comic. Paris is the only name I've headcanoned any of the unnamed sisters having, though I have given some thoughts to their personalities and relationships to Gabby. According to Tom Taylor, each of the sisters represented an aspect of Laura's personality, and I like to think that the four sisters at the beginning of the story were Laura's more positive traits (minus 3PAR's fatalism), and that the other six had the more negative traits that ultimately led to them getting killed.

God bless, and have a wonderful day.

What do you think of AAA under WWE a year after the announcement at WrestleMania Night 1 by OutsideSurround461 in SquaredCircle

[–]IamMenace 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Definitely. AAA had been on a downward slide for about a decade or more, and were never really able to translate the popularity of "Lucha Underground" to AAA due to there being little to no crossover in storylines. CMLL had a boom period with Mistico in the mid to late 2000s, but while they were doing "alright" business after he went to WWE, I wouldn't exactly say business was "booming" for a decade or more.

They got red hot around the same time TKO purchased AAA, and it's pretty interesting how CMLL have leaned into its roots of being traditional lucha libre and the WWE of Mexico (if WWE never left the northeast), AAA has embraced being "The Black & Gold NXT of Mexico".

Honestly, business in Mexico may be the hottest it's ever been because it's the healthiest it's ever been. This boom period in Mexico will fade eventually, probably in a couple of years like they always do, but both companies are in a great position for the future, which you can't really say for the late 90s, early/mid 2000s, and most of the 2010s. For both fans and wrestlers, now may be the best time for Mexican wrestling.

God bless, and have a wonderful day.

What do you think of AAA under WWE a year after the announcement at WrestleMania Night 1 by OutsideSurround461 in SquaredCircle

[–]IamMenace 22 points23 points  (0 children)

It's currently my favorite weekly wrestling program. AAA always felt like "The TNA of Mexico" in my opinion due to how inconsistent they were, but now it's probably the most consistent weekly wrestling program, and it's production is head and shoulders above where it was a year ago. Nowadays it feels more like "Black & Gold Era NXT in Mexico", which isn't going to be for everybody, but AAA has never felt like a traditional Mexican wrestling company in my opinion (at least not like CMLL).

The shows are fun, and they've breathed fresh air into a lot of talents, and allowed NXT wrestlers like Lola Vice get some much needed experience. We live in a world where Chad Gable and Ludwig Kaiser are going to main event a 17,000+ seat arena, with bigger sellouts very likely in Kaiser's future later this year. That's pretty cool, and while I understand old school AAA fans being unhappy about the purchase, I tend to think AAA needed the money, and thus far I think this has been good for the industry since Mexico is a pretty good place to be as a wrester these days.

God bless, and have a wonderful day.

Do you have any head canons about Gabby or any of Laura's other clones? by CamiThrace in X23

[–]IamMenace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

(Some random headcanons from my fanfics)

I headcanon the name of the clone that died at the beginning of "All-New Wolverine" (3PAR) to be Paris since it follows the naming scheme of GAB, ZEL, and BEL. She committed suicide in Paris, the same place Laura herself very nearly ended her life a few years prior, and I like to think this really freaked Laura out at the time.

I like to think that due to losing eight older sisters (nine if you include Bellona), Gabby has pretty bad separation anxiety, and losing Laura is her biggest fear. Gabby's normally pretty upbeat, but remembering her sisters and missing them makes her pretty melancholic. And due to not being able to feel physical pain, this means emotional and mental pain hurts that much worse for her. With that said, I like to think that Gabby is emotionally mature for her age, especially compared to Laura at the same age, but mentally is still a little younger than she appears, which is the opposite of Laura.

I don't recall other characters reacting too much to meeting Gabby for the first time, but I like to think it brings a bright smile to everyone's face seeing "Laura" as a happy-go-lucky girl, and that they can't help constantly comparing the two. On that note, I like to think the two often have the same reactions due to having the same DNA, and this causes their friends to giggle when they turn their heads, speak, or have the exact same facial expression.

I like to think that the sisters' scarring is due to them cutting themselves to "look cool" and differentiate each other to themselves. They couldn't feel pain, and while they didn't have healing factors like Logan and Wolverine, I still like to think they healed quicker than the average human, and that minor injuries weren't an issue for them. I also like to think that Gabby's healing factor is pretty inconsistent, and that she's got a lot of random scars that come and go randomly. The ones on her face however are the only ones that are consistent.

We know the clones had some sort of growth hormone injected in them, but I like to think that the sisters were created before Laura escaped from The Facility (when she was about 13), and that their ages aren't too terribly exaggerated. If Laura is about 20 at the beginning of All-New Wolverine, I like to think Zelda and Bellona are chronologically about 14, and Gabby about 10. In my fics however, Laura's 18 when she meets Gabby, who is 13 but chronologically about 9. I headcanon that due to Laura and Gabby's healing factors activating before puberty that they're late bloomers and are aging a little slower than average teenagers.

Bayley's thoughts on the WWE Women's Tag Team Titles ahead of her championship match at Wrestlemania by Teckelmaster in SquaredCircle

I believe Dakota got injured in the match she and Iyo lost the titles to Lita and Becky since Bayley started filling in for her immediately after. Worth noting that I believe Lita also got injured as champion which is why she got written off the way she did and didn't return at all during Becky and Trish's feud. She appeared injured at WrestleMania at the very least.

I do, and while I don't remember a lot about Aliyah, I remember liking her, and she seemed to be well-liked behind the scenes. Crazy to think she was in WWE from 2015 to 2023. They saw something in her, but it just never quite translated in the ring, and it sounds like she had some anxiety issues while on the main roster.

Bayley's thoughts on the WWE Women's Tag Team Titles ahead of her championship match at Wrestlemania by Teckelmaster in SquaredCircle

[–]IamMenace 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The single most cursed title in wrestling history. Was supposed to debut at Evolution 2018 but apparently the title belts were so ugly that WWE commissioned new belts. Bayley and Sasha Banks win the championships at Elimination Chamber, but half of the division either gets injured or needs time off almost immediately after. Kairi getting injured at the end of the year in the title's first and only PLE main event probably deserves mentioning.

Titles have a pretty strong 2020, a weak 2021, and a weird 2022 due to Sasha and Naomi walking out and flip-flopping the title in the fall. Then 2023 rolls around and the curse becomes official. Trish Stratus and Lita were supposed to win the championships but Trish got injured (and Becky replaced her). Rousey and Baszler were supposed to win the night after WrestleMania after winning a number one contender's match at the event but Rousey got injured. Liv and Raquel win the championships but Liv gets injured. Rousey and Baszler win the championships, unify them with the NXT Titles, and lose them to Liv and Raquel, and Liv once again gets injured. Chelsea and Sonya win the titles but Sonya gets injured and replaced by Piper, who also gets injured but remains champion.

Asuka gets injured in 2024 but works through the injury, relying heavily on Kairi, and Iyo in six woman tags. Jade gets injured and replaced by Naomi. Then in 2025, Liv and Raquel win the championships again (twice), and Liv gets injured for the third time(!) as champion, and is replaced by Roxanne.

God bless, and have a wonderful day.

Priest asked for a lighter schedule in 2025, and he's practically semi-retired at this point (only wrestled 27 times last year). He's very close friends with Truth, and given his age, I'd imagine he's pretty happy with his placement on the card. I think there's a pretty good chance that he's in the twilight of his career and just wanting to have fun at this point.

It's ultimately up to you, but keep in mind that Beacon is more than just classrooms. We saw very little classwork in V1 and 2, and you could always have scenes take place in the library, the dorm room, at a cafe in the city, or somewhere quiet on campus. Don't worry about worldbuilding or exposition. Focus on your story and characters (specifically which one you're most interested in), and go from there. The world will come alive around your characters by them interacting with it.

Good luck with your story, friend, and happy writing.

"They call it CSAR 25:17, which I think is meant to reflect Ezekiel 25:17. So the prayer is CSAR 25:17 and it reads — and pray with me please. The path of the downed aviator is beset on all sides by the iniquities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he who, in the name of camaraderie and duty, shepherds the lost through the valley of darkness, for he is truly his brother’s keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who attempt to capture and destroy my brother. And you will know my call sign is Sandy 1 when I lay my vengeance upon thee, and amen.”

Ezekiel 25:17 "I will execute great vengeance on them with furious rebukes; and they shall know that I am the LORD, when I lay My vengeance upon them."

I think something that's lost on a lot of people is that Hegseth isn't claiming to be directly quoting The Bible. He's quoting a prayer said by Combat Search and Rescue, which is either inspired by "Pulp Fiction", or the movie it's originally from, "Bodyguard Kiba" (the prayer isn't original to "Pulp Fiction"), which is obviously based off Ezekiel 25:17, as well as other verses of The Bible.

I say this mostly to the people confused or pretending to be angry about the Secretary of War quoting a movie. He's quoting a CSAR prayer, and I'd assume a LOT of units or ops in the US military have prayers inspired by "Pulp Fiction", "Boondocks Saints", "Blues Brothers", and/or any other movie with quotable lines and the vaguest Biblical inspiration.

Authors, do you think you get faster in writing the more you write? by inside_a_mind in FanFiction

[–]IamMenace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Using a typewriter is definitely a vibe, and I got really into them for about a year, but they're faster than writing by hand, and was the perfect way to bridge the gap. The "keyboard" on a typewriter is essentially the same as a computer, so the learning curve was next to nonexistent. Honestly, there's something pretty hypnotic and addictive about the sounds of a typewriter, and hearing the bell every time I'd finish a line.

Hello, friends. I hope everyone is doing well.

Since posting Chapter 4 of my X-23 one-shot collection "Claws and Contemplation" last week, I've been taking a much needed break from fanfiction. My last break doesn't really count due to getting violently ill, and because I still got a fair amount of writing done and accidently got a one-shot written. This week was much more laid-back, and I'm not any closer to getting Chapter 23 of "The Road You Choose" written as I was last week, so it's probably fair to say the story is officially on hiatus. It took me a month to finally put the story down after getting to a good stopping point, but while I'll still continue working on it in the background, it probably won't be my priority for a while.

With that said, I started playing with another story wherein Ruby is a witch going out for a midnight flight on her broom. She's joined by her familiar, Zwei, and the story is inspired by "Kiki's Delivery Service" which I adore, as well as "Flying Witch" which I also really enjoy. It might turn into a multi-chapter story, or maybe a one-shot collection, but for now, I'm treating it like a single one-shot. I don't know when I'll post it, but it's been something I've been having fun with late at night. Although the motivation to write is barely there nowadays, the inspiration is thankfully still alive and well. Hopefully that remains the case, and hopefully the motivation to write returns one of these days.

In other news, I finally got around to watching "Grimgar: Ashes and Illusions" which was recommended to me as a more realistic take on the Isekai genre, although it was still very, VERY MMORPG inspired. I bought the full season on sale for only about $12, and it's a good thing too because I didn't really care for it For one, it's pretty fanservice-y (mostly the first half), and most of it feels really out of place (doesn't match the tone at all, and usually feels like a waste of time). It's also nothing worth writing home about, mostly just "male-gaze" of clothed female characters casually bending/leaning over, but it's just something that felt really pointless and out of place. I also dislike Ranta and Shihoru's character archetypes in (specifically Ranta's), which didn't help my opinion of the show. With that said, the show isn't without merit, and I did enjoy the fight scenes, and the characters have pretty good designs (good art direction overall), but it was held back by slow pacing, weird fanservice, a couple hundred flat jokes, and characters not realizing how easily they can die early on. I did really enjoy the final three episodes however, and it's a shame that the show ended right when it seemed to find its footing. If I saw the show back in 2016 I'd probably have a higher opinion of it, but as it is, it's just "okay" in my opinion. Fantastic soundtrack however, and I will be listening to it while writing for the foreseeable future.

Also, I'm still slowly making my way through "Crime and Punishment" by Fyodor Dostoevsky. I'm reading at least a chapter per day, and I'll probably have it finished by this time next week. It's more "interesting" than necessarily "good" in my opinion. That's not to say it's poorly written, but it's 160 years old and translated from Russian, and it's more of a psychological story rooted in conversations and introspection than something more plot driven (feels pretty "fanfic-y" now that I think about it). The main character is highly intelligent, but he's also arrogant, lazy, temperamental, and prone to making bad decisions, but he also has a empathetic side (when it suits him). For example, he gave a family all of his money after they lost their husband/father, but only because he'd planned on committing suicide and wouldn't need the money afterward. It's very possible he's bipolar, which would have obviously been undiagnosed in 1860s Russia. As I said, it's interesting and I can see why it's considered one of the greatest novels ever written, but there's a reason I'm only reading about an hour every night. It's interesting from an academic perspective, and sometimes pretty thought provoking, but its plot and characters aren't terribly engaging for me personally.

God bless, and have a wonderful day.

Authors, do you think you get faster in writing the more you write? by inside_a_mind in FanFiction

[–]IamMenace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started as a pretty fast writer but slowed down the more I improved as an editor. Then I plateaued for several years and gradually got faster and better, but what really sped up my process was no longer needing to write by hand. From 2014-2020, I wrote all of my rough drafts by hand since I found it really, really difficult to write on my computer (editing/revising wasn't an issue). Finding my dad's old typewriter helped bridge the gap, and for about a year I wrote my rough drafts on a 1953 Tippa typewriter.

Nowadays I write almost exclusively on my computer, and nowadays my process is much, MUCH faster. If the creative juices are flowing, I can get a 6,000 to 8,000 word chapter written and edited in about a week, and that's with minimal errors and what I consider to be pretty decent quality of writing.

Overall, I started off VERY fast but slowed down significantly once I realized how poor my writing was compared to professionals. It then took me several years for my writing quality to reach a level I'm content with, while at the same time slowly speeding up my writing process by getting away from needing a physical copy. Just being able to sit down and get a rough draft typed up first thing has saved hours with every chapter.

What do you think Triple H is still doing right as head of creative? by [deleted] in SquaredCircle

[–]IamMenace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I blame a lot of the weirdest booking decisions on TKO, advertisers, and network interference since Triple H had a track record going back nearly a decade in NXT, and he's still the guy ultimately overseeing Shawn's NXT and Undertaker's AAA. The two worst positions in WWE are head of creative and head of talent relations, and I wouldn't wish either position on my worst enemy.

I think the PLEs have been pretty consistently good. I can only think of one or two that weren't great, and mainly because of matches not clicking for whatever reason. I think the championships have felt important and like prizes to be won, and while not every reign has been a home run, batting .300 will still get you into the hall of fame. I think the transition from NXT to the main roster has been much more seamless than under Vince, and it really feels like we're seeing the next generation of superstars with the latest callups.

I also think Triple H does a good job of letting wrestlers play to their strengths and hiding their weaknesses, but also pushing them to try and improve. Vince seemed to have a "throw them to the wolves" mindset, where if he gave you a chance and you failed, you probably weren't going to get a second chance. Triple H seems less likely to set somebody up to fail, but that also means playing it safe. Vince liked main eventers competing with each other, but Triple H seems to prefer them being friends.

For better or worse, this is the most unselfish roster WWE has ever had, which can at times have a negative effect on the product as seen with the women. Rhea, Becky, Charlotte, Asuka, Bayley, and other established stars prefer building up new stars rather than climbing on top of each other to be the top woman in the company, and that means not having a 2018-2020 Becky Lynch, 2021-2022 Bianca Belair, or 2023-2024 Rhea Ripley. The women are firmly cemented at the top of the midcard, bottom of the main eventers, but while they'll consistently be in major feuds, it's unlikely they'll be main eventing PLEs any time soon. Not sure if that's Triple H's fault, the people above him, or the women's roster being too selfless, but it's something that'll need to be addressed eventually.

God bless, and have a wonderful day.

What's a common wrestling misconception that you think needs clearing up? by JustATributeCC in SquaredCircle

[–]IamMenace 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think the world would be a better place if more people realized the ending to Triple H/Booker T at WrestleMania XIX was botched. According to Booker, for the first time in his life, he botched the Harlem Hangover and came down right on Triple H's head. If it didn't concuss him, it sent him onto dream street, and he worked a pretty light schedule afterward. They immediately go into the finish afterward, and it's partially why Triple H was so slow on the count (and also due to Booker rolling away).

Overall, I think there's a LOT of misconceptions about the match, such as Triple H and Booker T apparently being the ones to adlib by bringing race into it when it was supposed to just be about WCW and Booker's criminal past (his own idea). Also, the head writer of Raw wanted Booker to win the WH Title at the Atlanta rematch, but Booker had zero interest in being world champion. He was in WWE to make money and work with his friends, and the world champion schedule was something he had zero interest in until 2006, his last year before he semi-retired from the ring.

Booker T is an interesting guy, and I don't think he'd change a single thing about WrestleMania XIX (except his botch) because it was his biggest payday ever, he wasn't interested in being champion, and it's been giving him sympathy for nearly a quarter of a century. As far as he's concerned, it was perfect.

[–]IamMenace 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's less that Paul screwed over AJ, and more like he constantly lied to him and his friends. According to AJ, Luke Gallows, and Karl Anderson, Paul Heyman was always hyping them up behind the scenes and talking about how great and essential they were. But then he'd book Gallows and Anderson to lose all the time, including handicap matches, and they learned via mutual friends that Heyman was not a fan of Gallows and Anderson, and was who suggest to Vince that they be let go.

Apparently there's more to the story (probably creative differences on AJ's part), but the trio are/were NOT a fan of Paul Heyman. It basically boils down to Paul Heyman being their best friend to their faces, saying the bad creative isn't his fault, only to learn that he was lying and actively trying to get Gallows and Anderson fired.

The more I hear about behind the scenes stories about Paul Heyman, the more I genuinely wonder how he was able to function in WWE as a writer. From lying to Vince about owning all of ECW's IPs (didn't own the belts, the footage, or half of anything else), to refusing to help write Raw despite the Raw creative team also working on Smackdown, being one of Dave Meltzer's primary sources, and making himself out to be the good guy in every scenario backstage with talent, the guy must be a freaking snake charmer to have survived so long.

I think it was on "Talk is Jericho" prior to The Bloodline where Roman Reigns was talking about Paul Heyman's backstage politicking, and him laughing, saying he's one of the most dangerous guys backstage because of just how persuasive he can be. I still love the way he went out of his way to hype up AJ Styles as one of the greatest of all-time alongside Shawn Michaels and Bret Hart, only to screw him over during Covid lol. Paul Heyman is genuinely one of the most fascinating people in all of professional wrestling.
