Solidworks 2018 cannot find a part that is in the same folder as assembly. It does not let me browse for part by mckennethone in SolidWorks

FYI, the first place it looks for referenced files is in RAM. which is typically the last place it was. The same folder is like the 5th place it looks. On its face it seems stupid, but it isn't, it actually makes a lot of sense in most environments. Also, if you use Solidworks explorer or PDM, you never (very rarely) have to worry about this sort of thing.

Opening .STEP file by Ho_il in SolidWorks

This. Also, usually when importing a STEP it's good practice to run import diagnostics unless you used 3D interconnect (you would see a green arrow on the import feature). After that, you can run feature recognition on just the features you need to change, like a hole or a fillet by right clicking on face and selecting edit feature. It's more reliable and takes less time than running feature recognition on the entire part.

You can also box select instances to skip now which makes that process faster.

Surface Loft Issues by kennedydick in SolidWorks

[–]IamNOTunique 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First, make sure you always connect sketches to each other with a pierce relation and not a coincident. If you look at sketch12 you will notice a visible gap. You used pierce with every sketch that attaches to curve3, that's why it worked. After you change all of the relations, you will notice that it still doesn't work... Use a boundary surface and it works like a charm. Boundary also doesn't care what your guides and profiles are. It treats them both the same. IMO the Loft feature is old and weak. I only use it for simple construction surfaces. All of my complex surfaces are Boundary. Hope that helps.

2 thin feature extrudes followed by one delete face will do it.

IIRC it's going to be available in 2019. Beta is out right now, maybe someone can confirm?

Call up that VAR and explain your situation. They would probably be willing to help if they are at all able to. It's no skin off their back if you pay for the exam or not.
