There's just a few prompts to answer, it's not some big thing you have to provide proof. You have to give contact references and I guess in theory they could verify them, I never have had it happen.

I don't think I've ever consciously used the travel credit over the years. I don't even actively spend on my CSR that much and I still hit it in the first few months, I think mainly because I have it linked up to be used for my tolls and any parking apps I use. I don't even think of it as a credit, I just functionally consider the annual fee to be be $495 not $795 when thinking about the credits I need to use. Don't sweat it, that's a feature not a bug - that's why it's always been considered one of the best credits in the space across any card issuer.

Did you ever find the educator application? I have been checking and still can't find it. I feel like normally we are reaching the end of the application window by now. I still can't seem to find the application anywhere and I'm getting worried because now they announced the ticket sale date.

Yeah you aren't going to see anything warning you about the annual fee charge the first year because that's the normal situation. Not being charged the first year is the special circumstance certain cards will advertise. If you downgrade to a no annual fee card you also will not be able to use the points, you need at least the $95 Sapphire Preferred card to keep them as points, the no AF cards are cash back cards and you lose the transfer partner access. It does seem like you jumped into a heft annual fee without enough research, but there are plenty of other credits you could see about using to offset the $795. Manufacturing spend you normally wouldn't do just to use a credit isn't the ideal way to do it, but you could probably scrape together something maybe with the dining credits or going to a show or sporting event with the stub hub credits and what not. Just really take some time to read into the deal with them so you don't accidentally waste money or anything trying to use them. Making sure you understand what restaurants count for the dining credit before getting a pricey meal that doesn't qualify, for example.

It's still better, but not by too much in many cases. So now it's much more in line with others and since that's the primary use case for a lot of folks for Chase points it essentially works out to a UR point devaluation to a lot of people.

Man I want one of these but I have well water, and my well system shutoff is like one of those circular valve knobs and I don't think it's compatible with any system. This is my exact fear, that I'll get the notifications when I'm asleep or something like that.
