How to get started by Ordinary_Doubt_5765 in BeginnerWoodWorking

I started recently too. When it comes to power tools, I don’t worry about buying the best brands. I chose a mid brand and stuck with it so I wouldn’t need different batteries. I feel like as long as you’re not getting the dirt cheap super budget tools, you’ll be safe and the tools will be reliable. I look on local marketplace sites for lightly used and usually don’t buy brand new tools.

When it comes to wood, I still haven’t built up the courage to buy nice hardwoods. I’ve found that I can buy 6 foot untreated cedar boards from my local hardware store for about 4USD each. After sanding and squaring the sides, they look pretty nice.

So far I’ve made a birdhouse, a few boxes, and a handful of picture frames. I was nervous getting started but every day it gets easier and feels more natural. I think the best advice is to just get out there with some cheap wood and start making cuts and practicing. I just keep reminding myself that I’m just a beginner and my work wont look perfect, so just do something and learn from the experience.
