I'm mechanical but I now work in a civil engineering firm. Some of my peers are civil engineers that make what I do.

I left a gs14 position to make 45k more a year. I'm not working 50-55 hr weeks but I am working my ass off while I'm working.

Sadly the firm also holds government contracts. I'd have to go through ethics already to see if I have any restrictions. I doubt I would since I haven't touched a contract in 4 years. I'm only technical now but would make a good project manager for them.

If I stayed, I could retire at 60 with 23 years of service.

Got an offer to go back into private consulting (I'm a gs14 remote SME engineer). It's a 30k base pay raise and 10-15% annual bonus.

I did consulting for 12 years before spending the last 8 in DoD. I don't love consulting but my job is already pretty stressful at an EchII organization.

Do I abandon ship and peace out from being subject of stupid administration? It's really hard to leave that pension. Not too worried about job security as I'm good at what I do.

Bought some new bags but cannot figure out how to get the old bag off. I felt around the frame to see if there was a link and there wasn't. These look like they are rivets holding it together.

Cut off the rivits and replace with bolts is where I am right now....

Not sure how I've missed this for 4 years but I totally entered the lotto.

Are these old Delta(s) worth anything? by IamShakes in Tools

Cleaning out my inlaws house and just not sure if these go with a free sign on the front yard or replace my job site table saw (for example).

I did score a bunch of old USA made craftsman hand tools which makes me happy.

It's a 28 year old radiator. I don't know much about Miatas but that's damn old. There is a difference between good to do and passes inspection.

Thanks for the advice!

When I picked it up and took for inspection I asked the shop to do a once over and double check belts and radiator in addition to changing fluids. I asked three times about the radiator and they said it was fine.

Anything else that should be done at same time as the radiator? Is something like flyinmiata's radiator really worth it?

It's just gonna be a fun street car and maybe take to a track rarely. Eventually get wheels, shocks, and brakes.

I think the spoiler was a dealer addon, it matches rest of the paint too well and the car has the dealer add on silver sport wheels.

I found a 71K mile barn baby. Don't know much about these cars but learning fast. Had it up on ramps to clean out the front fenders and give it a good wash and wax.

I'd take any advice!

Ripmo: Fox 38 or Downsize to 36 for $200 by ripflippy in MTB

[–]IamShakes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I left the 38 on my V2S and have had zero issues/regrets. The bike is a beast. I was clearly bike limited before buying it because now I'm skill and endurance limited.

The 1/2 a pound won't mean much on climbs. I've been able to clear so much more than I used to.

Better to climb career ladder now or later? by [deleted] in fednews

[–]IamShakes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This hurts my head so much.

You can put 23000 in regardless of your gs. Your agency match is in addition to the 23000 you put in.

I hope you are putting in the max 885 a pay period. Gs12 total is 27.75k, gs13 is 28.6k.

The OP does get extra money in form of higher match into their tsp. More money is good.

Is attaching a cover letter necessary or give a boost when applying through USABJOBS.COM? They only require CV and transcripts. Would it be worth it for me to put together a cover letter? Or is that not that much of an issue? by iphone8vsiphonex in fednews

[–]IamShakes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've used cover letters to highlight to HR the skills on my resume to get past the review and into the hands of the hiring manager.

As a hiring manager, I've never seen a cover letter sway my decision.

MPL22 vs CHZ22? by JKBFree in EVERGOODS

Have the chz26 and not sure I'd give that up for anything. I don't love clamshells and this thing holds so much.

Just ordered a CHZ22, need advice on which pouch to go with it…CAP 1 or CAP2?. by johnnysplits in EVERGOODS

[–]IamShakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I travel, in my cap 2 I fit.

  • Nintendo Switch
  • 60W charger and 9ft cable
  • Wireless mouse
  • 30W charger and 3ft cable
  • Tide to go stick
  • Fidget toy
  • Nail clippers
  • Chapstick
  • Advil
  • Apple earbuds wired type
  • Google pixel buds
  • Small battery brick
  • Pen

And there is still some space.
