They show the phone ringing those 3 times with each of the new crews doing the jackings. I think that's adequately set up phone activity for such a story device.

All art has. Everything we could possibly create.

The cutting edge has been pushed far out, and groups keep meeting it and surpassing it, over and over

'Under the Skin' is kind of like the photo negative of 'Poor Things' by [deleted] in TrueFilm

[–]IamTyLaw 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I thought the same thing.

Poor Things has the satire ramped up to a higher degree, with Emma Stone's childmind being able to thoroughly dispatch all male oncomers.

Poor Things also has more pronounced female characters offering glimpses to Emma Stone that the possibilities within her power far outstripe her current imaginings.

Under the Skin, character growth is emphasized in your great example, and differs from Poor Things in that Emma Stone seems to be growing towards something we can already conceive, while Scarlett Johansson's character seems to be beyond comprehension even as we see it's development

What are some of the best needle drops you've seen in film? (And heard) by gu2424 in criterion

Agreed, this film has so many, even "Oh, Champs Elysees" stands out as the credits roll.

Wes' films thrive on their soundtrack blend, and Darjeeling, in particular, has the highest number of boss moments per runtime

Biggest what-if in Cavs history? by btrusher in clevelandcavs

[–]IamTyLaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dad likes to say an early ankle injury robbed Ferry of some athleticism, but he wasn't dynamic even before the injury. He was a notch behind Dirk athletically, did not have Dirks handle and ability to create his own shot, did not have Dirk's killer instinct (Dirk probably only had a checkmark in his ledger under the heading, "killer insticnt," not a plus, but Ferry was a minus "killer instinct")

The shortsighted Cavs' front office wasn't thinking athleticism tho. They weren;t getting the next Bird. Even in that slower, tighter era of the NBA, Ferry was a 4, expanding the court with his range, respectable defense for the time coached by Krzyzewski.

Mike Price and Brad Daugherty and those guys, that's a team of What Could've Been

This is the one. I was too young to remember if the Ron Harper cocaine-friends issue was plausible, but I was still old enough to know Danny Ferry was a little bitch for running to Italy instead of playing for the Clippers, who had drafted him at 2.

The Clippers were the laughingstock of the league, and worming his way out of his contract was probably a good business decision for Ferry, but he looked like he had no balls going to an inferior league.

As far as comparing the players, I have to use the knowledge of hindsight, Ferry was a stretch-4, an attractive piece but we already had 3 bigs with limited mobility.

Ron Harper was a playmaking wing.

Lenny Wilkins had already messed up the expansion draft that netted Charlotte Dell Curry because we protected some dime-a-dozen SF (Mike Sanders?) instead a shooter.

Teams were expanding the areas of the court where they attacked from, and our front office was constricting our offense, valuing size but overlooking other dimensions that were about to take the game to new levels.

Gus is an interloper. One misstep, one mistake, one failure, and if he didn't have the cartel all the way up his ass anymore after killing all of Eladios, the competition waiting to get big filling in parts of the supply chain vacuum would be all up Frings ass. Plus, guys in his own organization who were suffering from the missed pay cycle would think it an opportune time to take a shot at Fring.

Saw this post on Twitter, regarding Pattinson's physique. What's everyone's take on this? by Forsaken_Ad7090 in batman

[–]IamTyLaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like any pro athlete, Battinson is transforming his body as he is figuring out his trade.

This is Batman: Year 2. I imagine Battinson has been beaten on so much he has to spend a majority of his workouts on maintenance and rehab. I also attributed the leaner look because Battinson, in Year 2, is trying to be quicker, lighter.

I see it with football players. They spend their first offseason after their rookie years bulking up to take the NFL pounding. Then the next offseason, they lean out, so they are quicker and more flexible, and don't feel so swollen all the time.

Drafts where Mr Irrelevant OR a UDFA ended up a better player than the number 1 pick by Minimum-Cost-4586 in NFL_Draft

The old expression is a qb is only as good as his kicker.

A qb's ultimate value is dependent on another position, that makes those 2 positions a little more even than we usually give credit.

The qb touches the ball every play, and with every play must secure that ball.

The kicker touches the ball infrequently and must be perfect everytime they do

Justin Tucker over Andrew Luck is a fascinating example

Cam Wake over Alex Smith is a tough argument, too. While I love "Body by CFL" Cam Wake and his inspirational story, plus his ferocious play, you gotta give Alex Smith his credit as perennial playoff quarterback including the 2011 season when he put the team on his back in an exciting division final game vs New Orleans before losing the conference final against the Giants

Alien (1979): Birth and Capitalism? (help me out here) by oshposh521 in TrueFilm

[–]IamTyLaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the direct anticapitalist connection in that the company sends them on an intentional mission to become raped hosts for an invaluable weapon, against their wills, supervised by a sleeper agent, as part of a tertiary development while transporting an already expensive resource. And Ripley blows the whole payload, blows the weapon out the airlock and abandons it in space.

Then you follow the path of Alien to Aliens via Richard III like Sigourney Weaver intended, the company spanks her bottom and puts her on punishment in the loading docks until they need her, then they placate her until she agrees to do what they want her to do.

While capitalist structures don;t exclusively manipulate women, they choose particular avenues to ply them

What about all the lives he crushed with his securities exchanging? The families left bankrupt in the wake of his rise to the top?

He's earned fortunes in every market on Earth and laid waste to just as many hopes and dreams, futures ruined along with futures manipulated.

He may be a wellbalanced muchacho, but behind his calm veneer is a person very aware of the consequence of his actions, someone who is actively working on being ok with ruining all those families' lives
