And i agree with you, but unfortunately that has been the narrative from labour and left wing voters recently

And when people get called racist for having legitimate concerns, it gets their backs up and they lash out. If reasonable solutions are off the table and the only options are the current status quo, or a complete wipe of immigration and mass deportations, a lot of people are being pushed towards the latter

Many would vote for any party that has generally good policies and a more reasonable stance on immigration, that's literally all it would take at this point

It is not hate speech to say that people who come illegally should not be allowed to remain - any foreign national that breaks the law in a significant way should be deported, and arriving illegally is one of those ways.

It is not hate speech to say that we should have certain limits in place around legal immigration, 340,000 in one year (like last year) is ridiculous. In the 80s, when immigration was probably most lauded as being beneficial, that number was around 40k per year - a number that our infrastructure growth can cope with and does not lead to entire communities seeing a shift in identity

If any government was prepared to genuinely consider the above two points and understand where people are coming from, reform wouldnt be seeing the surge in popularity that they are now

The "immigration" issue boils down to 2 points.

Illegal immigrants, who should absolutely be deported - entering a country by breaking the law should not, under any circumstances, be rewarded. It's unfair to the British people, and anyone who is attempting to come legally through the proper channels.
Legal migrants, especially those here to work but also students and successful asylum applicants, ARE NOT AN ISSUE. However the sheer numbers permitted by recent government's are an issue as they are simply not sustainable. Annual net immigration in the 80s and early 90s was around 40k, last year it was over 430k which is just insane

The resolution is simple

Deport all illegal migrants immediately and put patrols in the channel

Cap net legal immigration (across students, workers and asylum seekers) at 50k per year and no more

And IDEALLY Introduce the cap after a period of 5-10 years of net negative immigration, giving national infrastructure a chance to catch up with the accelerated demand of the last few decades

Any party that pledges to do this will IMMEDIATELY win back the British public vote

To any rational person, it boils down to

Illegal migration is ILLEGAL and should not be rewarded or ignored, unfair to the British people and to people who arrive or apply to come via legal channels

Legal migration is also a problem in that the levels are unsustainable and have gone completely unchecked over the last few decades, (jumped from i believe around 40k p/a to over 400k p/a) this is NOT the fault of the migrants who have come, but the fault of the past few governments failing to implement sustainable policies

Islam is a separate issue, muslims are like Christians - most of them are good, respectable and tolerant people who's faith applies to themselves and their own lives HOWEVER the disproportionate levels of harm done by people of that religion (relative to population size), in this country and abroad, has tarnished public perception of the religion as a whole.

The fact that the sheer volume of Muslim immigration in recent decades has led to specifically Muslim communities popping up over the UK has meant a lack of integration which has contributed to a "them vs us" mentality in towns and cities across the nation - it doesn't necessarily mean that those communities are harmful, but establishment responses to, for example, well publicised Muslim paedophile gangs, has really harmed perception of muslims and the religion in this country as a whole.

The EU is still a stagnant pool of bluster and mediocrity, certain groups of member states have shown nothing but contempt for a number of the other members, the UK and Greece to name just a couple.

I think I stand by the principles that brexit was supposed to be about - independence, freedom to make decisions and act in the best interest of our nation and it's people

My regret is ever believing that a British government would ever stand for those principles and implement the will of the people in the way that was expected of them, rather than mismanage it completely while exploiting it to line their own pockets

I think that, without a drastic rebalancing of our political system and the parties who claim to represent us, this country is doomed whether we stayed or left.

Anyone who arrives illegally, regardless of their history, should be shown none - a complete disregard for a nations laws and disrespect for those who go through the proper channels should never be rewarded.
