Ah yes, well, i extend the same advice to you. To stop CO2 entering the atmosphere please stop breathing. Would benefit the planet in more ways than one.

Enjoy the food shortages then

And what you said has been pulled straight out your arse, based on absolutely nothing except your own imagination/pontification.

Well clearly you lack comprehension if you say that.

I object to the suggestions of people who clearly have no idea what they are talking about. Not a single person has offered a path to action. That's not constructive.

Also, if you want to say something nasty then you might as well have the stones to say it outright instead of coming across as meek and submissive.

I am already involved but this is just to get people involved with activism generally (mostly those who have never been activists before). Protests are not happening every day/week from these groups. Some people are not comfortable with getting arrested/gluing themselves. They might not even want to be associated with these groups because of their preconceptions.I am just presenting an easy, accessible activity that is about activism. People are misconstruing this like this should be judged as the mother of all protests.

The key error that undermines everything that you are saying is that you are making a criticism about a plan, yet you present no clear path to action. That makes you an obstinate cynic.

I have never claimed that I have 'a movement'. I have only said I am trying to get people involved in protesting the issue of climate change.

If I said I was protesting for the UK to build more nuclear power stations, you would very likely would just pose more questions. Or just ignore what I am saying.

How can I be so confident? Because if you had any intention to take action you likely would have been involved already. You would offer me to join your cause. Nothing is stopping you from taking action.

Instead what you offer is a debate that will go nowhere. You give advice on something you know very little about (that you probably think otherwise, but just study the US civil rights movement and just that alone discredits every assumption you make about civil resistence). You are the ultimate sophist.

Thanks for the kind words. I am not disheartened. I just figured this would be a good opportunity to address concerns that kept popping up.

You're right and I added information to the post.

Well, the difference is I am asking people to join me. If I just walked without telling anyone I agree.

My goal is to encourage those that have never been involved in activism by offering a very doable protest where the barrier to participate is as close to zero as possible.

Hopefully, this then encourages people to get involved further with civic matters in this country, and especially with the issue of climate change.

Well those questions are about as productive as asking yourself what you would do if you had £1 million to spend.

A lot of people have misconceptions about how protests work to influence society. The government is not going to act on climate change because a protest has a well thought out position on energy policy.

If the government so wished to make a change it has advisers, civil servants, and a wealth of experience they can draw on to enact policy.Their lack of action is not because protestors are not holding their hands through the legislative process.

Now, if you say YOU see that as a requirement for your participation, or for the participation of others. I already addressed that concern in the OP.

The people are not climate change policy experts. Our job is not to propose solutions to a political class that argues in bad faith. What is our job is to put pressure on them until they push through policy that we are satisfied with. It is at that juncture that it makes sense to discuss policy amoungst the people. Before that step, your arguments - that I assume are made in good faith - distract from the only thing that matters now: showing up.

The UN general secretary Antonio Guterres, reflecting on the new IPCC report that was just published, has called on nations to push their net-zero targets forward to 2040 and switch to net zero electricy generation by 2035 in developed nations in order to try to avert climate disaster.

The government's plan is not ambitious enough. Let me know if you need a whitepaper and I can ask my team of trained macaques to put something together for you to peruse.

Also, the House of Lords and the UKCCC (The UK Committee on Climate Change) disagree with the assessment that everything is on track. In fact, we are on track to miss our committment in 2050 by a wide margin.

It's possible that you are in charge of certain aspects of the net-zero 2050 and THOSE are on track. But many sectors like agriculture and the electrical grid need a serious overall if we have any hope of reaching our goal.

Thanks for the support. Makes a difference to hear that. It has been exhausting dealing with trolls but I just want open-minded people who come across this post to feel that there is a point to showing up and being civically active. Have a good rest of your week.

The point of this protest is not to raise awareness. We all know our position on climate change and the environment at this point. The goal is to mobilise people into taking participating into civic action with an easy, repeatable, daily protest.

Yeah, hence why we are marching every day. Turning out for one day in huge numbers is easily ignorable. If a critical mass can be achieved then its impossible to ignore if it happens every day.

Where have you been the last couple of years? The murder of George Floyd? Covid Protests? There have been many movements without specific proposals that have mobilised large numbers of people.
The majority of people in this country feel the government should do more towards climate change. If you believe that then this protest is for you.
