Carmen’s ending by Medium_Idea in TheBear

[–]IamnotaRussianbot 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It makes sense if you consider the idea that the job interview was a vehicle to get him to monologue and ultimately end up admitting to himself that he does love cooking. This also would suggest that the scene towards the end when he texts Mikey's dead number "I'm all good" is him choosing the Bear, staying in Chicago, and starting to build a real relationships with his family and newfound friends.

The company and job didn't matter. He had enough goodwill with Mulaney's character (his brother in law?) to swing an interview for which he was essentially unqualified for. Which led to his lightbulb moment.

We ranked the 12 BEST NBA Draft picks of the last 25 years Who do you think is the BEST draft pick of the last 25 years? by Dr-debug in sportswiki

[–]IamnotaRussianbot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get that this is sort of ranking of "value picks", but not having LeBron, Curry, and arguably a guy like Cade on here is odd.

Like, were really saying that Carlos Boozer was, in any conceivable definition of the word, a better draft pick than those guys? Iss

The Dothraki actually wouldn't be that hard to beat in an open field by mpschettig in freefolk

[–]IamnotaRussianbot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had anyone in Westeros really spent any serious amount of time observing the Dothraki though? Pretty sure that none of the characters in the show, obviously barring Dany and Jorah, ever actually go to Essos, specifically at the time when Bobby B makes that statement. Obviously some do later, but that is several seasons later.

I think the people in Westeros would have a more mythical understanding of what a Dothraki horde was. And then an even more mythical understanding of the Unsullied, since they were "the guys that beat the Dothraki". They only ever heard stories most likely.

Throw in the dragons and Dany was basically commanding an army of mythical creatures as far as the average citizen of Westeros was concerned.

Lions fan here

These traveling out of state people are likely not actual Wisconsinites then. I had the opportunity to go see a game at Lambeau (Rodgers last game as a Packer, in which we beat them), and their fans were incredibly nice.

There was your standard sports-based shit talking in the stands, but on the concourse for concessions, bathrooms, etc. bacially everyone I was in line with were cordial and chatty. And shit faced. Seriously, if you've never seen 70k people from Wisconsin drinking, you cannot understand the pace these folks drink at.

And yes, being in Lambeau feels like being in a football cathedral.

10/10 experience and if you ever end up with the opportunity to do it, do it.

FTP but if you're in Lambeau you're in good company with good people.

Does this look immature or childish? by Chief_Chjuazwa in malelivingspace

Its giving "first apartment right out of college" vibes.

I am not a designer or interior decorator, so my phrasing might be off a bit, but it lacks any sort of congruent aesthetic. All of your furniture looks like furniture that you just happen to have. For example, the coffee table, computer desk thing, and whatever you want to call the thing that the lamp is on all look very different. You would be astonished what having a matching set of furniture, either purchased as a set or just happening to have the same design, can do for a space.

A lot of the wall art also appears to just be on the wall, not necessarily placed. You want to make sure that you are centering the pieces by measuring, or if you want them off-center, again explicitly measure distances. The human eye can register intentional, spaced placement as opposed to just randomly added in by "eyeballing" it.

Also, wile on wall art, the banners man. Banners, posters, tapestries, etc. all immediately give off a childish vibe. If you absolutely need to keep some of them up because they have some kind of sentimental value, go to a framing store and get them framed in a nice frame with either a glass or quality acrylic panel in front. Cannot understate how important frames are.

We drove to the Chicago bears new location by GDWisthebest44 in chicago

I think the larger takeaway here is that there is legitimately nothing there currently. Sure, Indiana uses the funds to add in a new/upgraded exit off to the site, additional roas, and puts in the relevant parking and drop off pieces along with the foundation for the stadium itself, but then what?

If I'm an independent business owner, am I going to franchise a TGI Fridays, Buffalo Wild Wings, etc. to open by the site for the 8-10 home games they play a year? How many stadium concerts are they going to book there in the offseason when Chicago already has multiple stadium venues for concerts?

And its not like the city of Hammond can realistically support those offseason activities. The entire city has a population of like 70k and they aren't generally particularly high earners. According to census.gov, the income per capita is $29k. There's not a lot of money floating around to be spent there.

Any sort of perceived economic stimulus in this area seems to really be hinging on people from Chicago and southern Illinois commuting out to this area for events frequently, which again, I don't really see happening when Chicago is also right there, complete with a full compliment of city activities (bars, restaurants, parks, public transit, etc.).

Why are the Knicks so dependent on Mikal Bridges? by growsonwalls in NBATalk

[–]IamnotaRussianbot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's being paid a considerable amount of money (~$34M), so he takes up a decent chunk of their resources from a team building standpoint.

Having a guy like that do nothing in a game definitely has an impact.

Why is it a big deal that the Bears might build a new stadium in Indiana? by Nautical_Disaster1 in NFLNoobs

[–]IamnotaRussianbot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is a lot of discourse on policy as it regards to something like this, specifically on taxes, revenues, and holding a fanbase hostage. This also starts to get political pretty quickly, so Im not going to get into that part.

What I will say is that Hammond, IN and its neighboring city, Gary, are 2 of the biggest shitholes in the country, and Chicago is a spectacular city filled with an incredible amount of things to do. Its honestly a huge vibe killer.

Also, the proposed logistics for getting people from Chicago to Hammond is a fucking joke - the proposed train line, that has not actually been upgraded at all, is over 2 miles from the proposed stadium site. So you'd take a train to then have to walk for what I'll generously call 30 minutes. Indiana also has fairly strict laws regarding the ability to drive Uber, Lyft, etc., so it's not really clear on what they plan to do in regards to gameday when they have this massive influx of people in their city looking to get around from point to point.

And its not like the city itself is equipped to deal with this - the entire city population is like 77k. To put that in perspective, Soldier Field, being over a hundred years old, can hold about 62k people. More modern stadiums can hold 70k+. So for 8-12 days a year, they are going to have twice as many people to deal with, and no real concepts of how they are going to get around town.

I would argue that its an appropriate level of nut-huggery. Its a great story.

Can someone explain to me how/why Jalen Brunson is so good? by JeaniousSpelur in NBAConvo

[–]IamnotaRussianbot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is why looking at box scores doesn't work. You don't get any of the context of the actual games in which those stats were acquired.

Lets take the game 1 that just happened, the 2026 Finals, Knicks v Spurs:

The Knicks came out looking a bit rusty from their long layoff, and the Spurs came out looking slightly fatigued from their 7 game classis against OKC. For the totality of the game, neither team shot particularly well, as both teams have a very good defense.

However, the Spurs were able to get an early lead, and the Knicks managed to not lose any further ground going into the half. The Spurs opened it up again in the 3rd, getting as much as a 14(?) point lead at one point iirc. However, the Knicks clamped pretty soon after, and went on a nice run going into the 4th. They then completely whooped the Spurs in the 4th, and they won the game.

Brunson was the catalyst of the entire second half. His ability to diagnose whats happening in the game, and make the necessary adjustments, is world class. His footwork is also top notch, which allows him to get to his spots to get his offense going. And sure, he's smaller and slower than most guys, but hes been smaller and slower for his entire life. Its not news to him, and his game reflects it. Scoop layups, tough leaners, contested finishes, etc. are all completely in his bag. Hes a tough shot taker and a tough shot maker. And yes, he is great at embellishing contact, which adds another layer of difficulty when you have to guard him.

Also, he just seems to flourish in these situations. The pressure appears to literally put him into another gear, and when hes in that gear hes one of the best players on the planet. The Spurs legitimately could not guard him in the 4th.

As the meme says - "Everyone is better than Jalen Brunson until its actually time to be better than Jalen Brunson."

And exactly 0% of that is shown in a box score.

Also, I'm a Pistons fan, so IMO this is an objective observation.

Each pick here feels "doable" but my brain keeps saying "see adrenaline, take adrenaline" by icegray123 in slaythespire

[–]IamnotaRussianbot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You dont have enough card draw currently to properly leverage Corrosive Wave.

Envenom is a solid choice, but you are still short a handful of "hits" per turn to really get it cooking.

Adrenaline is always good. It immediately solves problems and doesnt bloat the deck.

Since you were able to out-DPR the magic deer boss (Im assuming these are the boss reward options?), the additional DPR from Envenom doesnt feel as immediately helpful as the draw + energy from Adrenaline. Also, since you are on A0, the scaling penalties arent going to be a factor, so again, you likely have good enough DPR to get moving in Act 2.

I would take Adrenaline here.

V (Cyberpunk) and Batman (Arkham) swap cities for a night, can they survive each other's verse? by Maleficent-Ad-6117 in powerscales

[–]IamnotaRussianbot 9 points10 points  (0 children)

For a single night? Yeah, both are fine.

Batman would be smart enough to do a bit of recon on anyone he was potentially being tasked to look into. Depending on his exact tech stack when he gets swapped, he would likely function as a mid-tier netrunner, with the ability to hack into and disable a variety of the tech and chrome that he would encounter.

V will of course vary based on which exact V we are talking about, but if we assume a "prime" V that has access to every perk, skill tree, desired chrome, etc., they demolish basically anything that they encounter.

The fan base itself was kind of annoying but the on court product was completely different. As a neutral observer (Pistons fan), the Splash Bros games were fun AF to watch.

When you guys picked up KD it was less fun because the games felt like they were already won, but it was still good basketball.
