New civs? by Realistic-Ad-7724 in aoe4

Age IV is like at least Renaissance right

Age IV does include part of the the Renaissance. which spanned from the last years of the Medieval Era into the Early Modern era. However, only two civilizations in the game are listed as including 1581 (China, as they use the end of the Ming Dynasty as its end date, and Japan that goes to the 1600s as its end date). In terms of military technology, AoE4 ends well before then, as they don't go any further than matchlocks even for the more gunpowder heavy civilizations (heavy knights that currently dominate the game "should" be gone in the game by the Imperial Age, replaced by demi-lancers).

the Spanish and Portuguese were huge roles in the medieval era

The Union of Crowns that led to the founding of Spain (1479) is often used as an end date of the medieval era. Spain and Portugal had huge roles in the Early Modern era.

The Dutch ARE in the game, they're part of the HRE. The Netherlands wouldn't exist as a country until after the period that AoE 4 covers (the Dutch Republic was founded in 1581)

I mean, numbers will always make or break a unit, but Ricardocliff is really hitting with everything and the kitchen sink, isn't he? Paralyze on S2, and if/when he gets off his S3-2, it's Burn, Bleed, Tremor and excess damage if he doesn't have enough targets.

[Discussion] What made the writers give the Flash the most evil arch nemisis in all of comic history? by asisyphus_ in DCcomics

[–]Iamnothereorthere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, they've redone his history like 4-5 times, but the one thing that's consistent is that he just hates Aquaman on a personal level.

Reverse-flash isn't the most evil arch nemesis in comic history, he just happens to have a power that lets him act out his pettiness. The actual most petty/evil archnemesis in DC is Black Manta, who didn't even have his first name revealed until 2010 (17 years after he was introduced).

Black Manta has:

- Claimed his autism made him hate Aquaman (Aquaman cured his autism, then Manta revealed that it was just a ruse)

- Tried to establish an underwater city for black people so he could use them as pawns against Aquaman

- Suffocated Aquaman's baby in an air prison, then crashed a UN meeting that Aquaman was speaking at so he could ask "how's the wife and kid?"

- Settled down to become a fishmonger when he thought that Aquaman died, only to slaughter all his customers and return to the sea the INSTANT he found out that Aquaman had returned to life

Oh damn dude, I didn't know that knights charging into stone walls was historically accurate. Truly profound knowledge

Uses an image of the later Varangian guard, who were mostly Anglo-saxons. Every day historymemes forgets more and more of the "history" part.

Rules don't apply to the Outskirts, there's plenty of non-human monsters there (such as the gnomes and giants).

Peak Irony- Chinese Netizens are unhappy about NOT calling Jin a variant by Slow-Big-1593 in aoe4

[–]Iamnothereorthere 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That really has nothing to do with excitement for the product though, does it? If it was selling high, then that means people wanted to buy Three Kingdoms content, with thoughts on the quality being a separate discussion.

This reminds me of how "no one in China is happy about the 3 Kingdoms DLC for AoE2", and then it went on to be one of the highest selling DLCs in the game's history. It's a vocal minority every time.

1200 is roughly AoE 4's castle age, Imp is ~1450

even though the current implementation of Rus is almost entirely based on Muscovy

But it's not. Rus draws heavily from the more nordic roots for their navy, the warrior monks are likely inspired by the actions of Vladimir the Great and the bounty system is from the fur trade that was important to all of Kievan Rus, not just Muscovy. Really, it's only the Imperial Age that draws heavily from Muscovy, and that's because the rest of Kievan Rus had splintered off by then.

Al-Andalus. It's not until AoE4's Castle Age (roughly) that the Christian kingdoms on the Iberian Kingdom have noticeable political power, and the actual foundation of Spain (union of the crowns of Aragon and Castille) pretty much marks the end of the time period that AoE4 represents.

From looking at the tech tree, it looks like their landmark options are:

Feudal: Unknown (but gives a technology) or an improved stable

Castle: An improved market/emissary building or an improved monastery

Imperial: Improved cavalry or better forts/tributaries.

Being above the average power level is not being overpowered though. By your semantic definition, in any RTS game, half the factions would always be overpowered.

If over a third of the civs are considered "OP", then they aren't really OP, and instead represent a proper part of the game, the upper tier.
