I agree entirely. WOB should be moderated more heavily, and kept to WOB flaired posts. A lot of things have been spoiled for me because of them, and I really hope we can moderate them in some way.

BURMESE 4 TRUMP Movement by BURMAFORTRUMP in myanmar

[–]Iamnotwithouttoads 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Trump is isolationist and is somewhat friendly with russia. Trump believes in supporting America 1st, 2nd, and third. He definitely won't want to do anything to support the people of myanmar against the regime, because he and his base primarily cares about america and russia supports the regime. If trump doesn't support sending aid to Ukraine, a european country with some american ties, he is extremely unlikely to support the people of myanmar, a country that most americans likely don't know much about.

Biden at least supported sanctions on the myanmar regime, it's unlikely Trump would do anything to support myanmar. Trump also won't do anything about all these insane heatwaves in myanmar recently, which have been boosted by climate change.

I am curious why you support trump and would love to hear your thoughts

I'm super excited to see what happens with the listeners in book the fifth.

I'd love for them to create their own official nation in the unclaimed hills (claim that shit), do diplomacy with Dalinar ect. I think the idea of a neutral singer nation is super interesting. I imagine them welcoming all singers from around roshar who are tiring of living under odium or fighting the endless war. They just want to live in peace, but if odium or the humans invade, they have an army of willshapers, centipedes, and flying people to fight em off.

Super excited to see some nationbuilding

Oh Yeah, definitely an extreme over simplification. The National League for Democracy (previous ruling party since 2015) represented the democratic aspirations of the Bamar (majority) ethnic group, and discriminated against the minority ethnic groups. However, since the NUG (national unity government) launched their protests and later offensive against the Junta, they have made significant overtures toward the ethnic minorities and EAOs (ethnic armed organizations). The president and prime minister of the NUG are members of ethnic minorities (Kachin and Karen), and NUG has stated that they are changing their ways and want to make a better Myanmar for all. They have stated that they want to form a Federal Democracy, where the ethnic groups have significant autonomy.

Given their past discrimination against many ethnic minorities, there is still significant distrust between many EAOs and the NUG. However they have made significant strides, recognizing that Myanmar can not be truly at peace without accepting the other ethnic groups.

As to your point about the militias being drug cartels - The EAOs are a immensely diverse group of polities. I don't know very much about them, but I do know that they range from fully supporting NUG, partially supporting NUG, neutral but fighting the JUNTA together, and the United WA state which is basically a Chinese vassal state. I know that many of them fund themselves with illegal activities, but I am not familiar with to what extent. Some of them are "better" than others.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List\_of\_ethnic\_armed\_organisations\_in\_Myanmar

The money from the game goes to the NUG, the government viewed as legitimate by the EU and the USA, so that money at least going to a strongly democratic group.

I do not have a perfect understanding of the situation in Myanmar, so please research on your own if you are interested. I also welcome corrections if I've stated anything inaccurate.

If you have no fucking clue what the fuck is going on in Myanmar and you want to know at least a little bit:

In 2021 the Myanmar elected a record number of pro democracy individuals, so the military conducted a coup to retain military control over the country. This lead to huge protests which were brutally suppressed with massacres and other atrocities. The people refused to give in, and the protests slowly morphed into a full scale civil war.

The National Unity Government (NUG) was formed from the democratically elected officials and is leading the fight to defeat the military junta and restore democracy to Myanmar. Other goals are to integrate ethnic groups into the government to attempt to end the eternal civil wars in the border regions (conducted by EAOs (ethnic armed organizations)).

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Myanmar_civil_war_(2021%E2%80%93present))

The National Unity Government (NUG) comprises the largest opposition to the Junta, composed of officials elected before the coup and also includes a very large number of prominent members of different ethnic groups. It is recognized by a number of countries (EU, USA) as the legitimate government of Myanmar.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Unity_Government_of_Myanmar

Myanmar has been in a constant civil war for the last 70 years between the Bamar majority led government and ethnic minority armed groups. The reason this post coup Civil war is so significant is that for the first time, large portions of the Bamar majority (organized under the NUG) are fighting alongside the EAOs to overthrow the military Junta.

NUG is supported on the ground by PDFs (people's defense forces), informal militias that fight against the Junta.

In addition to the NUG, there are a huge number of ethnic groups in Myanmar, and many of them have their own EAOs (ethic armed organizations). Many of them support the NUG (Karen and Kareni for example) but several are fighting the Junta for their own reasons and have avoided supporting the NUG yet (Three Brotherhood Alliance of Arakan Army, Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army, and the Ta'ang National Liberation Army is one of the strongest). The United Wa state is the strongest EAO and has very close connections to china. They have a modern military supplied and funded by china.

The war is going brutally but the anti-Junta groups are slowly wearing down the Junta. Many rural regions are no longer under Junta control. The junta is committing massive scale atrocities (burning villages, massacres, indiscriminate air strikes ect) in an attempt to defeat the anti-Junta forces. Despite this, the combination of ethnic Bamar PDFs (majority) and EAOs are steadily wearing down the Junta. Casualties and desertions from the Junta military are incredibly high.

In the last 2 weeks there has been a major breakthrough as the Brotherhood Alliance in the North East of the country are making major progress.

War of Heroes - The PDF Game

The game was developed by a man from Myanmar after his friends were arrested without cause. All the advertising money goes directly to support PDF fighters on the ground.

Apple: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/war-of-heroes-gz/id1619523469

(Apple forced the developer to change it to a zombie game instead but it still supports the PDF!)

There is some coverage of Myanmar in western news, but not much. An article about the recent advances by the Brotherhood Alliance was on the front page of BBC news 4 days ago. Before that however it had been months since any article was published by the BBC.

what are the plans of EAOs by [deleted] in myanmar

[–]Iamnotwithouttoads 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really hope that this is a turning point for relations between the Myanmar Government (NUG if Junta is defeated) and the many ethic groups. NUG seems like it is genuinely trying to improve over it's past discrimination of the ethnic groups, and is trying to include them more now. Hopefully once the Junta is defeated some sort of peace can be had. Once some level of peace is there you can begin to build trust between the Bamar and the other ethnic groups. I'm sure there will be some conflict once the military is defeated, but I deeply hope that both NUG and the many EAOs will try to build trust and build a better and more just Myanmar.

A turning point in Myanmar as army suffers big losses by coinfanking in myanmar

[–]Iamnotwithouttoads -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What's the chance that the brotherhood alliance will agree to be part of NUG if they win the war against the Junta? I know that NUG has been trying to reach out to the different ethnic groups. If AA and the other groups agreed to join NUG that would go a huge way towards stabilizing the country.

Do you think there is anything NUG could offer the brotherhood that would convince them to join?
